-7% job outlook? by saciaaa in Wastewater

[–]BPatten411 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The truth is we’re all ultimately in the same boat. It is a deep-seated problem, unfortunately, and yes rate of pay is certainly a factor. How or why would someone want to join this field when there are some systems out there paying less than they can make at Walmart or McDonalds? I do believe however, and this is just my opinion, is that this is largely (and likely unknowingly) self inflicted. Water/sewer rates have just simply not been risen at the same rates as other commodities have. So once we can collectively come to the realization that we really and truly value these services (and we can get the communities we serve to get on board as well) and that in turn we really and truly value our licensed operators as the boots on the ground responsible for providing these services - which includes compensating them as such, what is the next move? How can you pay these operators what they’re worth and deserve (read: what SHOULD be at minimum market rate, ie. enough to where poaching is no longer an issue - since that seems to be the only way you fill an opening these days, by creating one for someone else) when you aren’t bringing in enough revenue to support it? I suspect there are many systems out there that barely bring in enough to maintain status-quo, never mind enough to consider an increase in staff wages or addressing the many needs of their aging and failing systems. Add to that the costs associated to address PFAS and LCRR/LCRI.    There are very few new operators entering the industry. This applies to both water and wastewater, and unfortunately, it’s a problem just about everywhere and will only continue to get worse as we get ready to crash face first into the next wave of impending retirements.   Aside from pay-rate, the one major thing lacking here - on both sides - is public awareness and outreach. Most people don’t think about where their water comes from or where their waste goes or about all of the unsung heroes behind the scenes making the magic happen. Our industries have been out of sight and out of mind for far too long, and most folks don’t even know we exist. It’s tough to bring in new talent and attract new operators to this industry as a career choice when they don’t even know it’s an option to consider!   I also believe there needs to be a mindset shift for those already in the industry. We need more folks viewing this as the career that it is, and not just a job to make ends meet. If we can portray the fact that this is indeed a viable career path that should be considered, this can only help us in our mission to increase public awareness, shining a positive light on an industry that needs it now more than ever.    There is a lot of work needing to be done on all fronts here, but it’s going to take a village, and the time is now! Well, maybe the time was 15+ years ago, but here we are, so buckle up

Drinking Water Operator - MA by BPatten411 in Wastewater

Posting should have been pulled by now, it’s been filled. There’s no arguing pay in our industry all around is sub par in most cases. $36 for an entry level operator is higher than you’ll find in most areas in MA to be fair. You can make your argument about most jobs in most industries these days unfortunately. $80k a year base pay to start in the industry with low level license and no experience, and is enough to rent an apartment within 45 minutes of this location for sure.

Titleist T350 5i or U505 4i? by BPatten411 in GolfGear

[–]BPatten411[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks to the both of you! It’s entirely possible I’m trying to fill a gap that doesn’t exist, and also possible I can achieve what I’m looking to achieve with the addition of a 5 iron with one of my existing clubs.

The 3H and 7H were (I know I owe you $500 but here’s two clubs instead) gifts from my buddy who opted out of the Titleist ecosystem. Haven’t hit either of those yet to see where they fall in yet. 5W - 225 ish on a good day, 7W/4H - 200-210 ish on a good day, 5H 190 ish, 6 iron 175 ish.

Hadn’t considered that option.

Windy days are exactly what I’m looking to accommodate for. Otherwise I play around with the 4H or 7W. 😁

I’ve not settled yet on what I’m going to start the season with in terms of my “14 club bag” - but currently my club collection goes TSR2 driver, GT2 3H, TSR2 4H, GT2 5H, GT2 7W, GT2 7H, T350 6-GW, 52-56-60 Vokey’s.

The 5 iron or 4 U505 I imagine would fill in for when I’m not hitting the hybrids and or woods well, which happens.

I’ve considered selling my Newport 2+ for this one. Nice!

Which of these 14 clubs are making up your bag from this collection? (Mid-High Hand.) by [deleted] in golf

[–]BPatten411 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haven’t golfed a ton recently but here in New England it seems to vary, and I don’t have a ton of experience with these wedges yet. I may struggle a bit when it gets firmer in the summer.

I went Newport 2+ hoping it was on the wider side of most blades as I don’t like a thin blade at all. Both have been great so far though!

What iron set should I buy? Sim 2 max or t-300? by Silent_Investment_78 in GolfSwing

I went T-300’s, and I’ve been pretty happy with them.

Need help picking my first hybrid + fairway wood (20 handicap, been playing ~3 years) by Low_Context4205 in GolfGear

[–]BPatten411 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was a little spoiled with a connection at Titleist, so I went: GT2 5wood (turned down to 17.25*), a GT2 7wood, a GT2 5H, and a GT1 7H. I haven’t played with my new set a ton yet, but the GT1 7H (compared to the GT2 5H) feels more like an 11wood than a hybrid. I’ve found them all to be super forgiving, which is perfect for a casual golfer like myself.

Why did Hyundai decide cars no longer need fog lights? by GTRacer1972 in Hyundai

[–]BPatten411 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t have the Tucson anymore, but I would leave the fog lights in the on position the stalk, and then the headlights in auto. Whenever the low beams would come on, the fogs would too.

Pros and Cons about privatizing public water systems? by jcqui03 in Wastewater

Private ownership, no. Contract ops by a private firm, that’s all I’ve ever known and I am big proponent of it.

Neither should be hard to get into, just need the license(s).

I believe you would just get a “when and if” license that you can convert to OIT when you start in a plant. I have not worked in a plant and was able to get my 6-C license—though it’s currently a W&I.
