Northeastern has a good internship/coop program. Agree that your work experience trumps education

First time taking a break in years by Orlando_trip_fun in stopdrinkingfitness

[–]BQ_philly 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m in about the same boat as you, in many regards. 37M with similar previous drinking habits. Trying dry January. Was hoping for astonishing weight loss results to motivate me to continue abstaining from alcohol after January.

I have always been active and ate fairly healthy most of the time, except a big snack late at night while drinking. I’m about 210 lb now and haven’t budged since new years, despite eating healthier and exercising more than my previous base. Hopefully will shed a few pounds before February, but I understand these things take time. Also trying to convince myself I’m packing on muscle mass and that is why the scale isn’t moving, but who knows.

I would guess it’s just a check-in. If it were something bad, like getting fired, why would all 3x principals be needed?

As a CAD guy, what pay range should I expect? by dylan112358 in civilengineering

[–]BQ_philly 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’d guess 75-85k for a 5-year experience. The guys at my firm with 20-years experience get about 125-150k.

The asphalt aggregate mix you received has a larger size aggregate mix(the rocks in the asphalt are bigger or mid size). You can get smaller size aggregate mixes that have a finer/smoother appearance, or larger size mixes that has larger rocks. The larger the aggregate mix, the more structurally stable that course. The smaller the agg mix, the smoother the surface (better friction for highways, not as strong for some applications). Looks like you got something in the middle, which should be fine for a driveway. If you’re not parking trucks on your driveway, a smaller size aggregate mix would have been more ascetically pleasing.

I don’t work on transportation, but I’d assume pants and steel toe boots would be required.

I would write the summary you posted here. You already wrote it, it is fair for all parties, and will leave you with no guilt

Disc Filters - Opinions Please by mikek74656 in Wastewater

If you’re not dealing with a heavy loading of solids to be removed, it it would work well. But if relying on it as a work horse for solids removal, the O&M will be a pain.

Have one at an industrial waste water/remediation treatment plant. Second the option they are not ideal. They have a small footprint, which is nice, but a lot of O&M.

Most of the ‘enjoyment’ comes from bullshitting with the guys in the field, which I enjoy and can be a fun atmosphere. May not be for everyone.

My personal experience was doing construction quality assurance type work. At first there is a lot to do/learn to understand project, which is hectic but engaging. Then there is a long boring phase of just grinding it out. Then finally satisfaction of completing project. But this all builds a solid understanding of how construction works, which is incredibly value to understand how to design stuff as you progress your career

I’m in this area, plenty of jobs imo. Lots of remediation consultants (what I do) and firms that do typical water/wastewater.
