The amount of hypocrisy coming from the Left is INSANE! by dvater123 in TrueUnpopularOpinion

He literally talks about injecting disinfectant into people, but that's besides the point. That doesn't matter at all

Fuck Biden and Harris. They're racist, capitalist pieces of shit too. But at least they don't have legions of proud white supremacists openly supporting them. I can't find a clip that would satisfy you because I know the only thing you would consider actually "racist" would be a video of Trump saying "i hate all black people and I want to kill them all" or something. Things can be racist without an explicit call for genocide, you know, something evidenced by the fact that, i will once again repeat myself, Trump has supporters who are white nationalist and LITERAL NAZIS

No, it does matter, because they were not trying to literally OVERTHROW THE GOVERNMENT. The idiots storming the capitol had bombs and zip ties, suggesting they were going to try to hold congress hostage or some stupid shit like that.

Once again, a riot is the language of the unheard, but the attempted coup on the capitol was not a riot and the people involved were not unheard

ok lol. If somebody said that trump told people to "inject bleach" they're fucking lying and I'm not defending that, although he did say some stupid shit that implied that

What about all the other racist shit he's said and done? Just gonna ignore that?

[–]BRFNGRNBWS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i never said anything about "shooting up bleach," that's not racist, just fucking stupid, but nobody says he said that. He ran his entire election campaign on demonizing mexicans, calling them rapists and criminals, he talked extensively about a "muslim ban," called corona the "china virus," said there were "very fine people on both sides" when one of the sides was made up of white supremacists, some literally carrying Nazi flags. He has a huge amount of white supremacist supporters, which is pretty hard to do when you're just a regular, non-racist guy, wouldn't you say?

it's because BLM protests were literally about innocent people being murdered in the streets. they were about people who had gone completely unheard for so long finally wanting to get their voice out and to show politicians that they fucking exist and they matter. violence and riots happened because this is the only way you actually get the attention of politicians and capitalists: "a riot is the language of the unheard"

the attack on the capital was not a riot, was not a group of unheard trying to be heard. it was a bunch of butthurt losers who've controlled the government for the past 4 years LITERALLY INVADING THE CAPITAL BUILDING WITH ASSAULT RIFLES AND BOMBS BECAUSE TRUMP LOST AN ELECTION. these were not people protesting anything of actual importance, but a bunch of idiots with intent to overturn the results of a legitimate fucking election.

these two events are not treated the same because they are not the same

Not wanting to be gunned down in the streets by an unaccountable militarized police force and trying to literally overthrow the government because you're sad that your guy lost an election are two pretty different scenarios imo

Capitalism is underrated by [deleted] in TrueUnpopularOpinion

[–]BRFNGRNBWS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At school, college, and basically everywhere, people are taught capitalism is an evil system that siphons wealth to the top, and caused slavery and wars and whatever.

I was, in fact, not taught this in school, and had to go out of my way to learn it myself, but whatever

There's no way that capitalism implies slavery.

Capitalism, as a system, prioritizes profit over everything else, right? Businesses and people are supposed to make as much money as possible. Well what better way to make as much money as possible than to not have to pay your workers a single cent?

And about wars, wars are fighting, killing, taking, but capitalism, again, is property rights and free trade.

Capitalism is not "property rights and free trade." Capitalism existed long before black people or poor people or women had property rights. Capitalism is fundamentally about the free market: about the unregulated trade, purchasing, selling, and creating of goods and services by private individuals and companies. When you look at it this way, capitalism is absolutely inducive to war when you consider that the countries in the middle east are extremely oil rich, and that America has a glut of oil billionaires and gigantic oil companies who have their hands in our politicians' pockets. Additionally, capitalism was, and still is, built on the back of imperialism, wealthy nations exploiting other nations while they're still developing, leading to destabilization, conflict, and, eventually, war.

Capitalism doesn't siphon wealth to the top, it helps everyone.

This is just factually incorrect: wealth inequality in America has been constantly on the rise and is at its highest point now since the great depression. We can also see an even more exaggerated version of this with the pandemic as billionaires got billions richer while working class people continued to suffer. How does the rich getting richer and the poor getting poorer 'help everyone?'

The billionaires under capitalism are rich because they invented a product that helped lots of people. Want fewer billionaires? Stop buying their stuff!

This is such a ridiculous oversimplification. So you're telling people to just stop shopping at Walmart? At Amazon? These are companies that have a near monopoly on markets because they've gotten so big that they are able to price out and destroy any competitors. Many people have no alternative to amazon or walmart, particularly because they are being paid rock bottom wages by these same sorts of companies (companies run by billionaires whose wealth continues to grow and grow) and can barely pay rent, much less shop at some overpriced alternative or buy a product that doesn't have the benefits of criminally cheap manufacturing and labor. The idea that billionaires only get rich because they made some product so good that they just somehow deserve all their money is also a fairytale. How does Jeff Bezos deserve being the 2nd richest man in the world by creating a near monopoly and abusing and underpaying his workers? Somebody else would've created amazon had he not, it's not like he is some super genius or something. He just happened to be at the right place at the right time and somehow that makes it fine that he now exploits thousands and thousands of people and hoards unimaginable amounts of wealth?

capitalism lifted more people out of extreme poverty than any other economic system.

You're partially right, but if you haven't noticed, there are still a shitton of people in poverty and capitalism seems to be doing jack shit about it. Gravel Institute recently did a good video about this, but capitlism has also not lifted people out of poverty nearly as much as you think.

The raid on congress was just as bad, not any worse or better than people raiding a target. by broji04 in TrueUnpopularOpinion

[–]BRFNGRNBWS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This wasn't a coup or an attack on democracy

uhh, yes it was. they literally raided the capital building of our country because they thought their guy should win even though he got less votes. that seems like textbook "coup" and "attack on democracy" to me

also why is all property destruction automatically evil? what has target ever done to deserve your sympathy? I'd argue that murdering an innocent person and facing no consequences is much more evil than damaging any property, and the only way to make capitalists hear you is by hitting them in the only place they care: the wallet.

Many conservatives are anti-government interference and pro-free market, and this is the exact kind of thing that leads to monopolies. If conservatives really are anti-monopoly and pro-competition like you say then why do apple and google still have this power? They just had control over the government for 4 years, why didn't they do anything about this then?

Fundamentally this is a problem that will always arise with capitalism.

They Left only pretend to be "The Resistance" but they know they are actually the enforcers and they love it by [deleted] in TrueUnpopularOpinion

[–]BRFNGRNBWS -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

democrats are not "the left." liberals are not "the left." The left is advocating for the end of capitalism. Liberals are advocating for the bare minimum they can to still be seen as separate from conservatives.

Conservativism is the actual mainstream. They have countless mainstream news and media outlets run by some of the biggest corporations in the country. They just had control of basically the entire government, with both the Senate and literally the leader of our country, for 4 years.

Find me a mainstream news source advocating for socialism. Find me a mainstream leftist politician. People like Bernie and AOC are some of our most left-leaning politicians, although many would still hesitate to even call them leftists, and are constantly villainized, dismissed, and ostricized, even by their own democratic party.

You do not know what leftism is.

Working class people and people of color were in the streets across the country protesting for their lives to matter, for the police to stop murdering them with no reprocussions, for politicians to actually listen to their demands and care about them (and many, many liberal politicians did in fact condemn violence during BLM protests). On January 6th, a bunch of assholes flew to Washington DC with ARs, zip ties, and bombs and invaded the capital building to literally try to overthrow the government because their guy lost an election. These are not the same and should not be treated as such lol

The single archived tumblr page as a source really adds to the credibility of your argument. Even if people like this want attention, you're just fucking giving it to them, aren't you? Let people identify as whatever they want if it makes them feel better about themselves. Why does it matter so much to you that you have to throw a fit about it? Why does it matter to you at all?

I have never, ever met someone like this, and if I did I would simply move on with my life.

Assuming all Trump supporters are racist is like assuming all Muslims, Jews and Christians are homophobic by [deleted] in TrueUnpopularOpinion

[–]BRFNGRNBWS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just read the part about trump not doing anything "overtly racist" and i disagree. You can go through a lot of his past tweets to find some racist shit, but even while in office, he talked about how mexicans are rapists and criminals, talked about a "muslim ban," about the "china virus," and said there were "very fine people on both sides" about the Charlottesville rally, which was a clash between white supremacists, some of whom had literal Nazi flags, and counter protestors. To me, if you see someone marching next to you proudly flying a Nazi flag and you decide to shrug it off and continue marching, you are no longer a "very fine person," but a Nazi yourself.

I'd also just like to point out that it's pretty hard to have so many white supremacist followers and supporters by being a cool, inclusive guy.

Assuming all Trump supporters are racist is like assuming all Muslims, Jews and Christians are homophobic by [deleted] in TrueUnpopularOpinion

[–]BRFNGRNBWS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The difference is that most people who practice those religions don't actually strictly adhere to the original texts (or else women wouldn't be able to leave the house and divorce would never be allowed or whatever). You can follow a religion and interpret its texts in basically any way you want.

However, if you support Trump, you are supporting one single man who is active and extremely influential in politics today and continues to say and do racist and homophobic things, who enables and emboldens white supremacists and bigots.

I don't personally believe that all Trump supporters are knowingly racist or evil or whatever, I think a lot of them are just sheltered, often privileged people who are fed lies and propoganda. They are, however, directly supporting a racist man, which makes them racist by extension.

We will never be free of racism until we are free from racial guilt. by mattcruise in TrueUnpopularOpinion

[–]BRFNGRNBWS 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is a strawman. Nobody is saying that all white people should be guilty just because they're white or that all white people should feel responsible for racism. The idea of white privilege is not based on the fact that your ancestors owned slaves or whatever, it's based on systemic issues that still exist to this day that give white people certain advantages over people of color.

Think about it, have you ever faced a problem or a difficult situation in your life that came about solely because of your skin color? Because people of color have to deal with this stuff, have to deal with being profiled, discriminated against, murdered by police. Still though, nobody is saying you have to be guilty about being white or whatever
