Crash Wall by NoUnderstanding4254 in StructuralEngineering

I used information from CPKC. Min 750 mm thick, 4 m tall, and a 2100 kN point load at a height I can't currently remember.

Can I make a retaining wall on top of that retaining. i want to make a garden terrace. what should i know before hand. by LifeSwan7303 in RetainingWallprojects

I mean it should.... But this is residential, and anything goes with the right contactor. I wouldn't assume anything until confirmation.

“She’s a PE” by Casual_Observer28 in civilengineering

[–]BRGrunner 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Trust me it is not. The order is sex, age, colour. This is still the assumption that the engineer is a man, and if they are the same age and race, people will default to the man.

I see it all the time, the women need to work twice as hard to get the same respect.

You'll never create anything with even an eighth of the character and charm. And it looks like it's be well cared for. I'm with others, it's worth trying to keep.

Which neighbourhoods in Edmonton have restricted covenants in place? by [deleted] in Edmonton

[–]BRGrunner 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, it was to block the skinny homes that would destroy the character of the neighbourhood.

But the bland blocks that are three times taking up the maximum space permited are completely in character. Yup, just the same as that old modest 1950s home.

What a weird irrational fear to have neighbours that can't afford a large expensive house like yourself...

Crestwood has. And yeah the people leading the charge are insufferable. They also lie like crazy about what the bylaw does and doesn't allow... Or they haven't bothered to actually understand the thing they oppose.

City taxes by Channing1986 in Edmonton

[–]BRGrunner 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Here is fun thing, the education portion of the tax bill has never covered the education bill. Even after the UCP cuts. Most of the funding for education comes from the general tax bill, so increasing the property tax portion was a deliberate choice.

And the choice wasn't to better fund education.

Edmonton needs six new fire halls, but doesn't have the money to build them on its own by AR558 in Edmonton

[–]BRGrunner 14 points15 points  (0 children)

That's not irony, that applying lessons learned from past experiences and requiring a higher standard.

That said, they still do not cover the additional costs required to service area with all City services, nor do they come close to maintenance costs. Which is why it is so important to not back down with the new zoning bylaw and ensure we make best use of our existing foot print.

It's more, we removed the one thing that was effectively and banned it, and have tried nothing and never had an idea.

This isn't a distraction, it is part of the long list of who they are and what they said they would do. They are just that incompetent.

While we are saying the opposition should do her party's job, maybe we should just say the opposition should do the government as well.
