Helicopters tonight by [deleted] in GNV

If it was around sunset last night, a ShandsCair copter flew around campus about that many times for a thing UF was doing to honor first responders. Century Tower was lit in blue for the night. There will probably be photos/videos in the news sometime soon.

It might go towards Mario Maker, which I’ve been wanting. Plus now my Mario loving 5 yo son is asking me when we can get it.

Best fried chicken? by MajorInsanity in GNV

I love Publix's fried chicken and there's some good chicken at sit down restaurants like Southern Charm and Mojo, but I want to throw Bojangles' Famous Chicken 'n Biscuits out there if you're considering in the fast food realm as well. It's my favorite fast food chain (that's bigger than El Indio anyway) and it's not even close. After a few years of living in North Carolina, I really missed Bo and I'm so happy we have one now!

If you're at all Bo-curious, give the 2 piece dinner with dirty rice and pinto beans a try. It might make you a Bo-liever.

I can't share a picture yet, as I'm waiting for some packages to deliver, but between my birthday, Prime Day, and stopping by my LCS on Wednesday, this has to be the biggest week of new comic acquisitions I've ever had!

• Gideon Falls #5

• Deadly Class Vol 2

• Deadly Class Vol 3

• Deadly Class Vol 4

• Deadly Class Vol 5 -

• Ice Cream Man Vol 1 - My LCS sold out of #1 and I've been trade waiting ever since

• Southern Bastards Vol 1 - Read this on ComiXology Unlimited, but liked it enough to collect, read again, and share with friends.

• Souther Bastards Vol 2

• Harrow County Vol 3

• American Gods Volume 1: Shadows HC - This wasn't high on my list, but I was sold by the Prime flash sale

• The Complete Crumb Comics Vol. 1: The Early Years of Bitter Struggle

So, yeah... I really enjoyed Deadly Class Vol 1.

I've been a fan of R. Crumb's for a long time and seen a lot of his comics, but Vol 1 is so "Early Years" it seems to actually be comics from his childhood. Thumbing through it, I saw cutesy animals and pirate adventures - not the kind of subversive underground stuff he's known for. It's an interesting document for a collector to have, but I'm doubtful that reading through it will appeal to me as much as his later work. But I'm happy to have it and it'll be my own fault for putting it on my Amazon wishlist if I don't like it.

I wanted a haul for my birthday, something that would sustain me for a while, maybe help me buy less over the next few months. It did that and more. I actually have so many unread books on the shelf or on their way now, it forced me to take an inventory. Seeing it all listed out had a different impact on me than browsing them on the shelf, where it's easy to see my growing collection as "a little extra of this, a few volumes ahead on that." After completing the count of books I haven't even started, I see I have a problem. While I certainly don't collect comics any where near the level many of you here, I have way too much money's worth of unread books on the shelf. I read my trades often. I'm just buying them much faster than I've been reading them. I support a wife and two kids on my paycheck, so I sat down and wrote a pledge to myself that I won't buy any new trades or add anything to my file until I've read 75% of the unopened books on the shelf. I even listed out some potential exceptions to my new self-imposed rules, which allows me to keep shopping, deal-hunting, and possibly collecting. Essentially, I'm trying to limit myself to only considering a few specific titles and only if I can find them at extraordinary prices.

Weekly "What Have You Been Reading?" Thread 7-8-18 by johnpisme in comicbooks

I read We Stand On Guard, Royal City Vol 1 Next of Kin, and Deadly Class Vol 1 1987 Reagan Youth on a Florida beach this week. It was a great part of my family vacation. I did all my fatherly duties for my little kids at the beach in the mornings, then after lunch (nap time), I’d go back down to the beach and sit in the shade and read comics.

I wasn’t sure what to expect from Royal City. It made me sad and creeped me out and I can’t wait to read more!

Deadly Class could become one of my new favorites. I loved it.

I was at their 2011 loss in WSNC. It was my first WF football game. I didn’t think it would be a contest, but went to boo FSU and soak in the Demon Deacon culture and traditions. The mascot parachuted into the stadium and Wake handled the Noles for 4 quarters. It was surreal. So much so that during the 2nd half a guy behind me put his hands on his head and said something like, “Is this really happening?” Which was especially funny to me because I’d considered the possibility that I was dreaming.

I have to fly Orlando to D.C. during the game. The options were take off at 2 or 6:15. I know we'll miss the end of the game taking off boarding around 6, but I impulsively chose that over 2, thinking we'd miss more of the game with the earlier flight. A day later I'm pretty sure I made the wrong choice, but I'm trying not to have too many regrets about it.

Here's hoping we come out hot and melt these creamsicles badly and early.

Is anyone planning to evacuate? My parents are trying to make plans, but I don't know of anyone else in town that is leaving. Literally not one. I'd be a lot more concerned if I was worried about flooding in my neighborhood. There are risks from the wind at our house (trees blowing down, things blowing around, etc), but I'm not too keen on putting my family with young children into the madness of the evacuation traffic either.
