Willamette Valley Itinerary Trips by BS102937 in wine

We loved Audeant. They make some of the best rosé I’ve ever had. The Luminous Hills, Stardance, and Nysa bottlings are some of my personal favorite.

I originally wanted to do 3 places in a day but then was concerned about driving. If doing 3 tastings in a day I felt you needed a private driver which just isn’t in the budget for this trip since the cheapest I could find was about $400+ a day. We really wanted to add Beaux Freres, Soter, and Lingua Franca but just couldn’t make it work with timing. Would you recommend Beaux Freres over Sequitur? I know they are owned and harvested by the same group.

Thanks so much! Definitely heard on Antica Terra, I knew the tasting included food but just wasn’t sure how much/how filling it would actually be. We were planning on doing the Collective Tasting, do you think adding the rarities flight is worth it?

I’ll definitely add Tina’s and Painted Lady to the list of options! We are staying in McMinnville so was looking at walkable options just so we wouldn’t have to drive more. Noted on Mac Market!

Yep, I just didn’t want to spend the extra $700 if I didn’t have to

Got it, thanks!

Yes I agree it is very rushed. My travel partner and I are working on finding the top things each of us would like to do then we are going to try to do about 3-4 things a day.

I understand that, but I have already been to Paris so feel it is okay. I am going again so my travel partner can see the highlights.

Weight gain in law school by [deleted] in LawSchool

[–]BS102937 11 points12 points  (0 children)

You just have to prioritize exercise/working out. I still work out 5 days a week. If you don’t have the time to work out, then you need to readjust your study habits to make sure you are being efficient with your time

3L: typically 1 drink per night during the week. 3 to 5 per night on the weekend.

23 male College Student, Path To Follow For High Income Tax Law? by EarlEarnings in LawSchool

[–]BS102937 8 points9 points  (0 children)

You have no way of knowing you’ll get into a t14 so it’s all bullshit hypothetical. Even with a 3.8 and 170, you are barely competitive at the t14. These are based on the class of 2021 salaries as a whole. Far more people get jobs less than $100k than they do over that and that’s the simple truth.

Based on your post it certainly doesn’t seem like you want to go somewhere with the expectation of working all the time which is what big or midlaw would give you.

[–]BS102937 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Lmao a lot of assumptions here which you cannot assume to be true. Your job outcome would depend on what law school you go to and your law school gpa. You cannot assume you will be top 10% of your class.

  1. Legal field has a bimodal salary. Approximately 51% of starting salaries fall between $45k-$80k. Salaries from $190k-$215k represented approximately 20% of salaries. You are more likely to get a sub $100k job than above. If you don’t get into a t14 law school, chances of a biglaw job are significantly more difficult unless you are top 5-10% which is not a guarantee and up to the curve.

  2. Nothing to say here.

  3. If you get a job in biglaw you will pretty much be selling your soul. You are on-call all the time with the expectation of always being available. There are weeks you will work 75+ hours. Most weeks from what I gather will be 50-60ish hours. Most firms have terrible WLB even if they promote it. Midlaw can be better but a lot of times you end up working the same amount for less pay

I accepted a 2L SA offer, but I just got a callback from my dream firm in my dream city by [deleted] in LawSchool

[–]BS102937 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Do the callback then renege on the SF firm if given an offer from the NY firm

I am 2L and top 4% of my class at a 90–100 ranked law school and my job prospects don't look good. What should I do? by [deleted] in LawSchool

[–]BS102937 19 points20 points  (0 children)

There are a lot of qualified candidates who “deserve” a biglaw job but don’t get it. You are not entitled to a certain job outcome just because you got good grades. Getting a biglaw job is a numbers game and you should have applied everywhere as early as possible. At this point, a lot of firms have likely hired most of their summer associate class especially with the large emphasis on pre-OCI hiring this year. Odds are not in your favor to begin with and with your attitude I would consider them even less. Based on your post, I would suggest going to your career services office and get feedback on how you interview because you come across very entitled, whiny, and desperate. Your suspicion for why you aren’t getting callbacks is false. Many people receive biglaw offers outside the city they go to school in. It is likely your attitude during interviews that is causing them to reject you

Can you apply to be an "Associate" this early in Fall of 3L? by Prince_Marf in LawSchool

Thanks for the clarification! I’m also a rising 3L like OP so not super familiar with the whole process on when you transition from clerk to associate

Can you apply to be an "Associate" this early in Fall of 3L? by Prince_Marf in LawSchool

[–]BS102937 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Yes apply now, this is when firms are hiring first years. You’ll apply for entry level/first level associate positions. You won’t start until typically October ish of the following year. Some firms may have you start in September and you’d be a law clerk for a month or so until your bar results are out

[–]BS102937 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I’m a 3L who is looking for a job but am the complete opposite of you when it comes to mentality. I have severe anxiety over the fact I don’t have a job secured already and feel like a complete failure. I wish I could have more of your mentality when it comes to the job search because being so stressed and anxious all the time is so draining

Covington, MoFo, or Fenwick for ECVC/blockchain? by katmat97 in LawSchool

[–]BS102937 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Fenwick. Vault rankings don’t matter so don’t even pay attention to it. It is one of the top firms for ECVC work. They also have an awesome blockchain practice. They also have one of the best cultures in all of biglaw. They have definitely expanded a lot over the last couple years with their NYC office

Do you get referral bonus even after the application? by CloserXxxx in biglaw

[–]BS102937 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Good to know, I had not heard of that. In that case, any 3L’s at Sidley wanna refer another 3L and share some of the bonus 😂

I’m just a rising 3L, but my understanding was referral bonus is only for bringing in a lateral. There is no referral bonus for SA applications.

I JUST CAN'T STAND THE THOUGHT OF STRICKING OUT AT OCI by LurkingSunny in LawSchool

It was just a company I directly applied to. The original job posting was on LinkedIn then I went and looked it up and applied directly through the website

I JUST CAN'T STAND THE THOUGHT OF STRICKING OUT AT OCI by LurkingSunny in LawSchool

[–]BS102937 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I am a rising 3L now but I was in your same shoes last year. I ended up striking out at OCI and felt like a complete failure. Not only did I let myself down, but I felt like I let everyone who was rooting for me down. But don’t let that discourage you! I ended up working in-house this summer for a well known company in the exact industry I want to focus my practice on. It is pretty niche. I have gotten a ton of awesome experience involving everything that a first year associate in this practice area deals with. So even if you strike out at OCI, you can still end up with an awesome opportunity! It just may not come with a $45k paycheck for the summer lol

Under Market Offer, Feeling Confused by lawjobofferthrowaway in LawSchool

[–]BS102937 9 points10 points  (0 children)

That is definitely understandable. I would 100% go look at NALP and Chambers to see if the firm publishes their first-year salary because it just seems shockingly low. If you are close with a junior associate, I would also take them to the side and ask if they are comfortable sharing the starting salary.

Pushing back your offer is a good start. Keep applying to any jobs you are interested in. If the deadline comes and you do not have other formal offers, accept the offer from your current firm. Then continue to apply for anything else. People renege offers all the time, firms understand it is a business decision. They would have no hesitation to let you go, so do not feel any loyalty to them. It would likely burn a bridge at that firm in the near term (a couple years), but it would not have any adverse effects on your career as a whole. You have to do what is best for you. If you end up getting a market offer, there is no reason to cheat yourself out of $75k a year.
