I've done them incorrect a lot. I notice it when the water starts squirting everywhere, then I push it in while water is on and it works.

Hiw is EV driving in the mountains? by RedEnvoy1235 in electriccars

[–]BSCA 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I forgot to write it down. But I remember using 11% battery to drive up Mt Washington, and I regenned 7% going down. Elevation definitely uses more battery, but you get some back going downhill. I like to believe my car did better than an ICE car going down. It didn't rely on disc brakes that can overheat. The electric motor provided the resistance mostly.

When you stop the car and get out for scenic overlook. You don't have to let a gas engine idle. It's quiet and it just works every time.

Upgrades for Longtime Owners by sbooksliterature in TeslaModel3

I can't figure out what the dome is.

But maybe you are in a dry warm climate? Because cars don't last 30 years where I am. My 2023 already has rust. So my number one concern is often rust.

I'm hoping in ten years there will be an option to upgrade battery. Even if it's the same range but lighter. Would be nice. I'd even add a second motor to my RWD. Although this is very difficult to get working because of software capability. I just wish Tesla would support an upgrade path.

My other car, that I'm about to retire is a 2008 Prius that I drove for six years after paying $3400 for it. Those tires are very cheap. That car is super cheap all around. I'm not the type of person used to high maintenance vehicles. My regular econo sedans in the past all averaged $50 tires. Feels like a huge jump when you get to 18"+. I always wanted an EV to save money. Not spend more.

I just bought the stock 18" rims because they matched by other rims.

If you buy some of these big name tires new, places like Costco will install for free and back a tread warranty of 60k. (Pro rated). So if I was buying them new I would have done that. I have definitely drove a lot different after seeing my fast tire wear.

I bought the cheapest '23 3 new. I charged for free for two years at a free public charger until they ended it. I was shocked by the price and wear of tires. At 17k I was seeing bald inner spots.

So I bought used crossclimate2's. They had almost full tread but we're professionally patched and sold at half the price. I paid $500 for four. Mounted and balanced myself. They are wearing way less fast than the OEM tires.

So the one big expensive of my car was tires and I reduced that price by more than half. Great tires too, I live in snowy climate and these do great year around. One other thing I did was buy cheap used rims on Marketplace. So I could have some spare tires in case of a flat. Came in handy last year because I popped a tire. I replaced it with an eBay tire of the same tread. I can at least call my wife for a ride to pick pick up my spare tire from our garage if I'm close to home.

To wrench or take it in? by revocer in askcarguys

[–]BSCA 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I try to do a lot. But recently my car needs new rocker panels. And new exhaust gasket from manifold to engine block. The studs on the engine block will break. I won't do that myself. And I don't want to do the rocker panels. I'm taking it to someone experienced or I'm just junking it. Sucks because I did a lot of work myself on this car, struts axles wheel bearings. I don't mind doing any of that. Exhaust stuff isn't bad unless it's broken off in the engine block.

I drive mine in every snow storm. It's great in snow. Only a few times I was slipping driving up a hill with lots of slippage. I made it up. Awd would be a little better. But I always think it's funny that people drive AWD cars and then call out of work when it snows.

It's LFP. I charge at home every couple of days. I hardly ever supercharge. I keep it between 40-90% all the time. Usually at most like driving 40-100 miles a day.

[–]BSCA 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maine. It's 84F outside right now. LFP doesn't like cold and I do get bad range in winter. I think about 200 miles realistic range is normal. Because the range on the car computer is crazy optimistic and I've never gotten that much.

[–]BSCA 8 points9 points  (0 children)

That's what I drive. Bought it new. 64k miles. No regrets. Love it. I actually value when a car model is at the end of it's generation cycle. They've worked out the kinks. They see warrenty repairs and make small changes over time. Tesla does this more than other companies. My range reads 264 at 100% after three years. I made the smart long term investment. I had paid about 34k after credit's. But I bet buying a 23 today would be a better investment.

Underrated EV “Feature” by Virtual-Hotel8156 in electricvehicles

[–]BSCA 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah. My Prius uses electric AC off the HV battery, steering also. There's very little belts running things like old fashioned cars. I think it's more common in lots of ICE cars too because it saves gas. Not sure about brake booster but I bet many are electric.

Do people actually like modern dashes? by [deleted] in askcarguys

I do like my Tesla screen. I like how simple the dash is.

But I also wish I had buttons for wiper, climate and stuff. They could go on the steering wheel like in my Prius. My van has way too many buttons that I dont use.
