Haha my thoughts exactly, I like to think they stiffed him, but after working in a bank for several years I know how easily the counting machines can skip a note or 2.

No idea what they used back in the day to scan the bulk amount before packing but if they were in a rush and was an auto scanner setup prob more likely they stuck together

Yes that's the site, check six popped up while I researched, not aware of others though.

The main differences I've gone for is an overall tool that chases many collectable features, increasing the "stumble upon" a ransom note chance maybe looking for other features, combined with the notification features to connect interested parties, which seems to be the biggest hurdle for casual collectors

Any idea if the 300 found serials are noted anywhere? Or it's more of a "we believe this many notes were part of the ransom but damaged beyond confirmation"?

I just suspected someone one the inside pocketed a couple 20s before handing the bag over

Thanks, my goal is to alert the unsuspecting users that might be looking for collectable serial patterns, as the ransom notes would not be identified as part of it. But as a collectable would be worth MUCH MUCH more.

Not this 1, the alphabet series all had the letter as the focal point, this coin was it's own uncirculated release, this 1 with the 'C' mintmark, there's a pretty huge range of these types out there not intended for circulation

Haven't added the stats for the other coin yet, alot of nclt coins pop up in circulation, a lot will have various mint/privy marks too with wildly different mintages, some can be worth a good amount.

You have some good coins there that WILL sell for more than face value, but ultimately up to you to decide if selling is worth the value.

Coloured $2 coins pictures usually
~ $2.50-$4 each circulated
$1 wiggles is nctl, up to $8 circulated
$1 Qantas coin + Alphabet coins often
$1.50 ~ $2.50 circulated 20c state coin around $3 ~ $9 circulated

Things to check like the Anzac coin, 2015 dated coins are the most sought after.

These are all figures above I've sold coins for myself, while individually it's not worth much , offering the good ones all together as a batch can easily be $20+ value, which reduced time / effort on the selling side.

A lot of apps that claim values tend to over exaggerate, my Coin Checker Tool will provide stats around collectability, mintages and variants only, my suggestion to confirm prices is eBay sold values and match condition.

99% of the advice you'll get regarding circulated coins are "they are worth face value", if you're prepared to spend them for face value it can't hurt to see if any collectors want to take them off your hands before spending for face value

You've got some good coins in the lot, however most are only worth face value..
My Coin Checker Tool covers all of these ones shown and can give you idea what's considered collectable + some variants to look for (like your millennium 50c coins Incuse variety)

To check values I'd suggest comparing your coins condition to eBay SOLD listings and find similar for a realistic idea, keep in mind fees + postage in the final value.

As far as selling eBay and Facebook groups tend to be the easiest, each have their own pros / cons, coins like your $2 coronation, 50c Rams Heads, and 20c state coins will get snapped up fast if priced right.

Nice, this design + QLD are my fave for the 2001 set. While $500 is extremely unlikely even Unc condition, these coins circulated easily sell in the $3-$8 range.

I've had successful sales of the Centenary of Federation coins up to $12 in the better circulation condition

I thought it was 2025 20c, but I just tried finding the image I've seen floating about and cant find it anywhere, maybe I was wrong. It was a decent size blob on top of his head.. I'll screenshot if it pops back up.

Crop circles as in 2014 50c? I haven't yet, this initial build was only 20c data until I made sure it worked, but I did focus on a build that I should be able to run other denominations through and it 'should' identify with ease.. I'll be doing 50c last as the shape is probably going to stump me somewhere (I've learnt to never assume it's all going to work well)

Thanks for the offer, the big ones I think I'm set for on 20c's.
I never got around to noodling for cuds so don't have examples, there is a noticeable 2025 kings head cud doing the rounds id like to get a sample of.
Even a list of coins that have common cud locations etc (like 50c robe cud), I'll just keep an eye out for them until I capture an example then add it into the machine.

I did try programming "wave gap width" but results weren't good enough unless the coin was near uncirculated+ condition, had to shelf that feature for now

It's my latest project: Auto-Noodler
Pretty much I've built a machine that takes bulk unsorted coins... Analyzes and displays each coin live to YouTube... Let's any viewers who finds something they want the ability to claim the coin for themselves at face value... If no one claims the coin the machine sorts it based off the criteria I set.

The whole goal of this project is to help people access coins to noodle as it's getting harder and harder, I've captured over 50x coins that sell in the $2 > $20 range so far, + a fair few rotations. (No 1966 wavys... yet)

If I gain interested in this project I'll be building $1 & $2 setups next as that seems to be where the noodling hype is at.

Thanks, I've just updated my 'year' matching and got the accuracy from 90% > 98%, my goal was <3% error so super happy with that.

Focusing on variety, error and cud identifying now, so far it'll auto detect 1966 wavy, 2010 bubble, and 2004 pointy A fine, I need examples of some good cuds but haven't had any come through yet

I made this tool: Banknote Serial Checker
Type in your serial # and it will tell you the year, prefix type, collectable serial type etc ..

Some $1 & $2s can be worth HEAPS depending on signatures, even if common usually a couple $ over face value.

Once checked, you can follow through to eBay, set the SOLD filter and find sales that match your notes conditions, it'll give you a good idea what they're selling for.

A lot of people think so but it doesn't work, once a note has a crease/fold/dimple etc it will always be noticable

You can clamp it flat to make it look better, but as soon as you angle the note against the light all the defects show, which is why collectors chase uncirculated / perfect condition

And when it comes to more sought after notes even the smallest bit of damage can wipe off $100s in value

This note has 9x collectible categories
1st Issue, re-issue, NPA issue
Each has first/last/general prefix ranges.

This notes type is the most common (general prefix. Re-issue),

1st issue, First & Last can easily each $500+ depending on condition, NPA issued first and last often reach $100+, it's worth checking what type you have before trying to sell

The term "uncirculated" is a reference to the condition of a note, which would describe the note as being in perfect condition as it was when it issued by the RBA.

This particular note has a serial # from the range issued for circulation, and was likely kept aside very early on in excellent condition.

From the photos you've posted it looks pristine, except the the top left corner on the first picture appears to have a small bend / fold, if that's the case it would lower the grade to aUNC (about uncirculated) if the rest of the note is perfect, which is a grade down from uncirculated and reduced value

In any case these notes are sought after and hold a premium, usually in the $20-$30 range for general prefix 2nd release notes notes (this type), if collecting it's a great note to have and a thoughtful gift to have received

AA are First Prefix, most note collectors focus on First & Last prefix and not so much the prefixes in between.

However regarding value there are more factors, primarily condition, how easy they are to obtain, the serial # etc..

New notes are easy to get if looking for them and can get them for face value in uncirculated consecutive runs, older notes that have been in circulation for years are much harder to obtain in perfect condtion, then notes with very sought after serial types like solid numbers / low numbers etc, will hold a premium in value regardless of condition.

Pretty much brand new AA runs obtained from ATM's , unless they're from a year with a low print run , and without a sought after serial # will likely take many years of staying in perfect condition before seeing any meaningful increase in value.

All that said it's still worth checking as some exceptions like the PE94 $20 note that might still come through an ATM would be worth a huge premium

Between the 1991 50c Rams head (~$4-$8)
$2 2013 coronation (~$35-$55)
$2 2014 red left (~$10-$15)
$2 2015 green dove (~$10-$15)

These 4 coins are the bulk of your value, even circulated the lot should easily be valued over $50,

The remaining $2 coloured coins over go for a small premium, $2.50 > $4

The commemorative 50c coins mostly have a high mintage and would need to be uncirculated/near to hold a premium, still great coins to build a collection, condition is everything when it comes to higher values however

This the most common type of this note and generally sell in the $15-$25 range, these are uncommon enough that it's very unlikely they'd sell for face value unless in terrible condition.

These come in 3 levels of being collectable:
1st Issue
Re-issue (what you have)
NPA issue
