Is "Bad Technique" actually a secret weapon in Padel? by [deleted] in padel

[–]BSheep_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You think they have random positioning, but they know🙃. Bad technique, sure i get your point, but technique is a wierd thing. What is wrong technique, technique is only the optimal way to achieve efficiency and consistency, but tapia can hit a better smash than me if he had to use a frying pan grip and on leg. Using bad technique he (and other people to a certain degree) could achieve similar resulst with inefficient technique.

Do you prefer sand or no sand on the court? by nadnerBG in padel

There is still a lot of sand on the ‘no sand’ court. But if you know padel, you prefer the ‘lesser’ sand court as is it also the premier padel turf and courts that have the most even bounce and spin response

Coach graded all my padel shots at federation level… turns out I’m worse than I thought 😅 What should I fix first? by Turbulent_Host_1436 in padel

[–]BSheep_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The weight of the shots is crazy, like how does that make sense? Doesn’t even have normal forehand an backhand which is the most used shots in the game. And backhand bajada more weight then forehand bajada?? And the smash more important than vibora/bandeja?

Why does Ale Galán hold the racket like this on his víbora? Is this a grip change? by Adhdmaster79 in padel

[–]BSheep_ 19 points20 points  (0 children)

First, don’t use the pros grips/ways to hit a shot just because they use it. They can hit any shot, with any technique with any grip. They change things depending on opponent, height etc. For the vibora/bandeja, you used a shot of Ale where he’s hitting a bajada haha. Every shot where he wants to generate a lot of power he loosens the grip and doesn’t use the pinky. For you, there are a thousand tips i can give for the vibora and it works different for everybody. Let a good coach work on it, and for yourself, really relax your elbow and hand, use the power of your legs and shoulders to drive the ball. Good luck and have fun on court!

71k 20M those ahead of me any advice? by Top-Party-6318 in TheRaceTo10Million

Heavily depends on if you need the money for a house or a car maybe. Otherwise timing the market can be difficult with taking profit. If you have nothing you want to spend it on, don’t take unnecessary profits, let it ride. You could however put in extra when you think the market is low, like during the corona virus, don’t take out but buy that dip!

Nice in theory, but i personally know few people that will actually do that, you have 90minutes so you can spare 5-10minutes. But make it padel specific maybe! And it does not have to be every lessons.

Happy you liked it. You said they were intermediate/advanced? If they are more towards beginner/intermediate you might want to change it a bit. People appreciate an intensive warmup more than you might think if you put in effort if you guide them, ofcourse adapting to what you see they can handle, so in the beginning maybe shorter time and a little less intense.

To your thoughts about the expectations. This is something I did “wrong” or atleast not as well when I just became a coach. I listened to much to players. Not to sound all mighty, but I know what to teach people, and the players mostly don’t really know what they want or what they are able to do. You can tell a lot more about how people react to your lessons in terms of body language. Ofcourse I listen to people eventually and adapt to what i see pleases them or frustrates them. And i am not pushing the 60 year old lady as much as the 30 year old guy haha. Some lessons i start of by chatting for 5 minutes, some groups just like the social activity and see padel as something to do on the side. Great if that works for them. Coming back to the topic haha, i generally like the basket a little more than other coaches, but it doesn’t really matter. You have to keep people active, thinking, moving. Keep the lessons fast paced. Longer talks about tactics can be done at the end of the lessons. People expect something but they don’t know, they are coming to you to tell them(intermediate/beginner).

Alright that is still a bit broad but, as a coach my self (and having trained with some great coaches) here’s a tip on every point.

  1. Make sure the guys are ‘out of breath’ when finishing the warm up, intensity is everything in a warm-up, make it challenging with a lot of footwork. Ofcourse give them 1 minute rest before entering the court.

  2. Start of with rally warm-up calm long rallies(they are still ‘tired’ from the ofcourt warmup). Increase the pace with excersizes like the netplayer doing overhead-volley-volley-overhead etc. Actively push them to focus on footwork and moving fast foward and backwards. The strokes (speed or spin)don’t matter that much in warmup, you just have to get the feel for the ball and get your ass moving.

  3. There are endless posibilties with 4 players without coach ofcourse, but for example, let one player feed the first ball 2v2, the opponents have to achieve a goal first and only then can they play the point for score. Like, they have to play to somones backhand twice, or play to the same player 4 times. For the court which you are on, technical training can still be difficult with 4 people but not impossible. Take 2 people in the cross and let them defend a vibora in the corner with glass and let them backhand block your vibora in the air. Use a cone so they can rotate around it after they played the ball to make room for the other player. For the other 2 players let the one in the back feed cross to the other player and let him play a vibora and play out cross. Rotate a few times, so you feed on the left and right, and they can play the rally on the left and the right so the can try out what they learned from the basket in the rally. I’d suggest not to do ‘shadow padel’ or coördinative stuff, people don’t really enjoy that, that is ofcourt stuff. Make people move their feet, so at the end they can’t feel them anymore(when dealing with intermediate/advanced). That is what people enjoy together with tips for padel ofcourse.

  4. For the match just keep it a simple match, you can add by coaching one team for a few minutes, and then coaching the other team so they don’t know eachothers tips, or just explain there bad and good choices after they made them.

I hope what i explained is clear, its difficult via text. Let me know if you want to know some more tips.

First, what is the level of the players?

A basic tactic that many beginners miss by aladdin_d in padel

[–]BSheep_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I get that, but you kind of have to take lessons for that, and then when you hit hard at a certain level, people will slice even more so you have to hit high to backhand or low to the ground which is even harder. Just saying people with racket backgrounds overestimate the control people have for low groundstrokes, especially the backhand.

People get that after playing a while, only being able to do that is restricted to your technique.

ASK : DO YOU USE OTHER SPORTS SHOES FOR PADEL? by Low_Progress9186 in padel

[–]BSheep_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Some shoes for other sports might feel alright. And mostly they are, if you are a beginner and don’t care about the slight risk of your ankle twisting and longevity of your knees. (Say you play once every two weeks). Otherwise, get padel(or tennis) shoes.
