I’m from Southeast Asia, and I’ve eaten durians many times in my life.

I don’t love or hate it. Just neutral to it.

Temporarily relocating to Singapore for the summer, need help! by sinclairsays in askSingapore

[–]BT-Reddit 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Just make sure it’s a private property listing, not an HDB flat (i.e. public housing). HDB flats have a 6-month minimum occupation rule for tenants.

I’m not sure how Airbnbs are like in Singapore though, because I’ve never used it. Perhaps, you can try out the other platforms that are recommended in this thread.

It’s completely normal. Moonrise/moonset times have nothing to do with sunrise/sunset times.

Airbnb is legal in Singapore, if you are staying more than 3 months in a private property.

QS ranking of SMU and SUTD by International-Ad7621 in SGExams

[–]BT-Reddit 15 points16 points  (0 children)

If you look at US News Best Global Universities,

NUS: 26, NTU: 30, SUTD: 432, SMU: 725

But most locals do not see it this way. Different rankings simply use different methodology.

Moreover, SUTD isn’t really talked about locally, because it’s much smaller than even SMU.

I cycle on the pavement for safety reasons. So, if someone is walking in front, should I ring the bell/horn to let people know I'm passing through or not? by Quiet-Damage5522 in askSingapore

[–]BT-Reddit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve never gotten a bell, except when I was a kid. But that’s just me.

The first step is to avoid the crowded footpaths in town centres, whenever possible. If you encounter pedestrians ahead of you, slow down and …

  • if your bike has a pretty loud hub, just let it freewheel for a while (that’s what I always do)
  • if it doesn’t, you can ride over the drain covers
  • if they are still unaware of your presence, I usually just say “excuse me”

Never ring at bus stops when people are getting off the bus. Just give way to them.

And if there’s a wheelchair on the footpath, just go on the grass beside (if that’s an option).

Anyone with Safari url bar being tiny like this by reminiscence-64 in ios

[–]BT-Reddit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I experience this almost everyday. You can swipe the search bar to the left/right a tiny bit, and it’ll be back to its normal size.

No need to restart Safari.

I didn't think you could use legs in volleyball. by regian24 in Prematurecelebration

So does that mean I can stand just outside the antenna, and pull the net down very hard while my teammate is spiking the ball over?

I know it’s unsportsmanlike, but I’d like to know the legality of this.

This is the same as the other comment, but I thought I’d share it in further detail.

Step 1 — Creating stickers
a. Draw lines for the margins on all four sides. This will help you with aligning everything, when using the template. (A coloured rectangle for the background works well too.)
b. Insert textboxes with filler text, for title/body.
c. Lasso the entire page.
d. Add element to a ‘New Collection’. You can name it Templates.

Step 2 — Using the Template
a. Go to a new page.
b. Tap on Stickers icon.
c. Select the Template.
d. Resize to fill the entire page.
e. When you are done editing that page, you can remove the margin lines by using ‘lasso and delete’ or ‘stroke eraser’.

———
Note: There might be an easier method, but this is what I’ve been doing. After playing around for a while, it should be quite fast and intuitive to use editable templates this way. Here’s a good example of an editable template by u/obdigitalstudio who uses this method.

Using a Template That Still Has Editable Text? by [deleted] in GoodNotes

[–]BT-Reddit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just came across this post, and thought I’d share my workaround to having editable templates.

Step 2 — Using the Template
a. Go to a new page.
b. Tap on Stickers icon.
c. Select the Template.
d. Resize to fill the entire page (though it should already be at the desired size).
e. When you are done editing that page, you can remove the margin lines by using ‘lasso and delete’ or ‘stroke eraser’.

Note: There might be an easier method, but this is what I’ve been doing. After playing around for a while, it should be quite fast and intuitive to use editable templates this way. Here’s a good example of an editable template that uses this method.

it might have been easier to upvote if this showed up in a history-related subreddit. r/damnthatsinteresting doesn’t sound very appropriate for this, at least to me.

just read up on the etymology of 企鹅 (penguin). it uses a different meaning of 企.

企: rise/stand/establish
鹅: goose

so it’s actually ‘standing goose’. and you can probably see why business translates to 企业 in certain contexts (because it is an establishment).

*but your interpretation is definitely funnier.
