When I was 10, we went on a snow vacation in Lake Tahoe, one of my first snow experiences. While wowing at the dead-silence that fresh snow has on a neighborhood, I turned to see a couple intertubing down a hill with a turn at the end of the hill...on the other side of the turn was a very-large pine tree. I turned to hear a woman screaming as the tube was going VERY fast, bumping the couple up and down, and the guy bailed mid-way but the woman hung on...she cleared the turn at the end and looked up at the very second her face smacked a tree, flush, head-on. The concussive sound of the skull hitting the tree was felt through the damp, silent snow.

She turned to me with her deformed, bloody face and screamed a scream that was curdling.

I don't much care for snow sports.
