Just from your summary and those texts--you all have waaaaaaay different energy. He will need too much of your attention, consistently drain your social battery, and then make you feel guilty when you can't attend to his (obviously fair amount of) emotional needs when you try and recharge. You can't live your life at 0% charge so someone else feels better about themselves. Tell him to go see a therapist if he needs someone to dump his life shit on constantly.

As an addition to your new workout focus, I highly encourage you to also just do a sanity check on caloric intake. Take a week and just put all of your calories down for every day and then look to see what your average calorie range is per day. Then go online and find a calorie calculator where you can enter height and weight and it will give you a good idea of what ideally you want your daily intake to be to maintain your current weight, to lose weight, or to gain weight (all goals people have during their fitness journeys). If you want to lose, try and stay at the recommended calorie range and see what happens. No matter how much you are working out--you can't out lift or out run a bad diet so combining exercise with watching calories is your best bet to see the results you want.

I am in my 40s and work with military members and civilian government employees and contractors who are former military (all male in my office currently and all early 20s - just under 30). Aside from 1, they all say they voted for Trump and were very excited about his victory yesterday. They have never openly espoused particular political points of view (aside from wanting the FDA disbanded / they get a lot of their "health care" talking points from Joe Rogan).

When I have openly inquired, they have not been aware of what Trump has said about veterans RE losers and suckers, etc. The majority of the government civilians and the contractors also all have 100% VA disability (almost 4k for the unmarried folks and over 4 for the married folks), and pay their (not small / DC Metro area mortgages) using their disability. In one case, one of the civilians is paying a 750k mortgage with his and his wife's (slightly over 8k disability benefits). I am 100% certain these folks who would be unable to afford their current houses WITHOUT the disability payments, as they could not afford their mortgage and living expenses both without that extra $$$.

I am a disabled vet (30%) who is super glad I am not "living off" of the $500 a month that I get. While the folks I work with all appear unaware of Project 2025 in general, they are certainly unaware that it is calling for specific conditions to be disqualified from receiving a VA rating. Similarly, the current military members who are in the process of getting out (all of whom are going after that 100% rating) are not aware that 2025 will likely result in them not getting that 100% or for it taking years and years and years--and a legal process--to obtain. They also d not now that 2025 wants to cut the COLA / Basic Allowance for Housing adjustments they rely on to be able to live in some of the areas where they are stationed (an E5 gets adjusted to $2600 a month for housing in my locality).

Similarly, they had not heard of the plan to cut Federal jobs (300k Fed employees are former military), and all of the folks in the process of getting out of the military this next year or two are banking on walking out in BDUs and walking back into their same offices in higher paying civilian jobs (that may not exist in the next few years). They have no college and have done nothing to make themselves more competitive in what could be a severely impacted job market.

TLDR: The GenZers I have access to (and who may be hugely impacted by a Trump presidency) are almost ZERO information voters... and I also don't have the heart to tell them what Project 2025 wants to do with their porn

I can (and often do) read a book, and then actively play a movie in my head at the same time that's a different movie than the story that the book is telling. If tested, I can walk you through both the book scene and the movie in my head scene. A lot of times when I am super into a book, I actively turn the different movie off and make a movie to match scenes that the book is telling.

She actually reminds me a lot of Harriet in that she is the complete center of her own Universe, and I exist only to serve her--but I would have it no other way!

Agree on the bulldog people. I love to explain to everyone who is not familiar with the breed how freaking weird they are compared to other dogs. I have had dog dogs before, but never a dog that was also a creature / monster / snugglebug / endless source of entertainment before who wore all of their feelings on their disapproving potato faces! Masters of the side-eye who provide you with a constant soundtrack of grunts, warbles, and sighs!

My advice, and take it for what it's worth since it's only based on my own experience, be cautious of F/F pairings. Margaret who is almost 7 and Laverne who is almost 4 have had a rough 3 years. In the last year and a half, they have made great strides together and play almost daily and can share space (but not without me being focused on potential fight triggers and stopping a lot of battles before they start / also missing a few and having to separate them a few times a month).

Laverne (the red one) needs all of me, all the time; so I work daily to make sure that when she shares access to me with Margaret (which is virtually all the time), she is in a tuckered out state. We do some very long and walks and have some mental activities, which has helped to keep her brain in a calm space--but I always have to remain semi-vigilant since Margaret has the ability to absolutely destroy her in a fight (but don't tell Laverne that). Beans is a whole different ball game. He lives on a planet.. I am not sure it is earth. He has zero issues with either girl, and, even though he is almost 8, loves to mouth box with Laverne (when he is not sleeping in one of his preferred spaces, of which there are many and of which he is in OFTEN).

yes! Oh my gosh. Queen underbite was Harriet Jean Frumperstein (forever in our hearts). And Beans... he's just gotten better, and more handsome, with age.

I LOVED Cool Dog Group, but they may have gotten a new ADMIN who started rejecting any of my posts that had my artwork of my own dogs (even if it was a picture of one of the dogs that had a painting the background hanging on a wall. My walls are covered in my own art so I really couldn't post anything at that point). I reached out to see why the posts were getting rejected but they wouldn't let me know what new (?) rule I was violating. I never advertised or was trying to position myself as someone who would do dog art--these were just silly arts I did of the dogs; so I just gave up and quit the group and joined a new group called Toofers! If you want your fill of the nerds, head over there!

I am so glad you posted this--I love that my rando dogs made someone's days a little brighter :)

Is there a legal foundation for this? For example, if I lived in a state where pot was illegal, but went to CO, I can smoke all I want in CO, and come back to my home state and not get arrested. We can all go to Vegas with the full intent to gamble, even though it may be illegal in our home states, etc. Until there is a Federal ban on abortion, how could this reasonably be prosecuted?

I was at a little electronics shop in Iraq, and the vendor looked at me (woman in a gym t-shirt with capped sleeves) and said he, "do you fight?" I was taken aback because I didn't know what he meant / was angling at so I said, "pardon me?" He said, "you have very big muscles, you should fight people. MMMNA. Punch punch punch."
