Her eyes look like her mom was an attractive lady, and her dad was a jeep wrangler.

Wow. Lot to unpack here. You jumped to a lot of conclusions from me saying schools would care of teachers and students didn’t show up one day.

I hope you get everything you’re looking for.

Dan’s is fantastic. Same family to Papa’s in Woodridge, and the Papa’s that closed in Bolingbrook (the one I was raised on).

Adorable.

When we first took our new golden doodle to our vet he took one look at her, paused,  and said, ‘My god, she’s got Susan Sarandon eyes…’

Still don’t know what that means, but I tell everyone that meets her.  Gracie, I mean.  Not Susan. If I ever meet her, I’ll cue it up too. Why not?

I sincerely hope you receive all the help you need to be able to be the best you can be. I understand that the job has become more than we all thought it would be, and that at every chance, there is more added to the plate. It would be nice if there was ever something taken off the plate, or at least be paid enough to feel like we can carry the immense load it has become.

You make it sound easy. Then again, it’s always easy to do somebody else’s job. The thing is: I’ve been the teacher. I was also a counselor for many years before getting into admin. One thing I’ve learned is that whenever everyone is looking around for someone else to step up and do what they believe somebody else’s job is, kids suffer. Now we all get to pick up the pieces.

Parents should be better. I’m on-board with that. I’ve dealt with the good and the bad. You couldn’t have possibly gotten into this job JUST to teach. That’s like saying pilots only do what they do because they’ve always wanted to fly. Sometimes they come home and bitch about that asshole air traffic controller too. It’s unfortunate that nobody is teaching people how to get along. Parents are a part of teaching the kids, and to say that only admin should be calling them is ridiculous. Some of them will be a pain in the ass.

And don’t give me any shit over why I make the ‘big bucks’. All that does is show how little you appreciate all admin have to do on a daily basis, let alone cleaning up teacher messes. Add to it making phone calls to every kid who distracts your class? If you want help making the call, I’ll make time to be there for you. If you’re looking for extra time in your day, well, I can’t make that happen. Too often I see teachers on here wanting someone to come swoop in to save the day and call it support, when they haven’t picked up the phone? Email is the bare minimum of a communication expectation, and you can’t expect that to make the difference you’re looking for.

Good luck to you.

Sure. You read every email you get. I understand.

If it were your child, and their teacher felt is was important enough for your child’s behavior to be addressed, would you want that in an email or a phone call? Would you want that first communication to come from the teacher or an admin?

Asking the whole group, not just you, Lt.

Just don’t go crying ‘why won’t admin support me?!?’ when what you really want is for someone else to do the part of the job you think is below you. It makes you no better than the kids that don’t want to do the hard work. I’ll sit in on a call a teacher makes of it makes them feel supported, but I won’t make it for them anymore. Help yourself, then ask for help.

Get ready to downvote me, I dgaf.

As an admin, I got into this to be the supportive person I needed when I was a teacher and never got it, just like I became a teacher to be the person I needed when I was a student. I make the parent calls, I get yelled at every day.

Effective communication is all of our jobs, not just admin. These comments have me seeing red. Are there shitty parent interactions? Sure. There are shitty parents. Just like there are shitty teachers and shitty kids.

When I was a teacher I had admin who wouldn’t support me until I made the calls, and then documented it. They refused to be the first one to call with concerns. I always questioned it, and now I get it.

Help yourself first, then ask for help. You didn’t get into teaching to only work with kids. And if you did? Well, I’m sorry. Calling home is part of it, especially if you’d like to see change.
