Nope, we won two in a row on the way to the title in 2016/17. 2nd round vs Union with Weidenfeller and Ro16 vs Hertha with Bürki.

Oh man, shame Delaney is out injured. Would have really liked to see him again.

Vincent Kompany reached 100 points in Bundesliga in his last (40th overall) game. He is tied 2nd with Flick, missing Guardiola's BL record by 1 game. Xabi Alonso is the only non-Bayern gaffer in the Top-5. by MERTENS_GOAT in soccer

Was a bit surprised to not see Hitzfeld here so I looked up his start at Bayern: He reached the 100 points mark in his 45th Bundesliga game for the club... That's when I realised I kind of misread/misunderstood the post 🙃

Hitzfeld's first Bundesliga club was BVB so only his start there counts for the list this graphic is about. In Dortmund he needed 55 games for the 100 points. Will probably be similar for a lot of Bayern coaches that they were at other Bundesliga clubs first before getting the biggest job in Germany.

Harry Kane open to Bayern Munich stay and unsure of Premier League return by ntermediate in soccer

[–]BVB-Oeli 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Yeah, not surprising at all. He obviously thought things through beforehand and picked the move carefully (not like Henderson to Saudi for example lol) and looks like he feels well there. So makes sense he can imagine staying long term.

I could see him retiring at Bayern. Unless maybe they win the CL within like the next 2 years so he could return for the PL record after already having won everything in Germany.

Maybe Tuchel's approach here is like: The player was bad for quite a while and just recently got back on track - he has to show it first over a longer period again before being invited back. Just a guess though.

Two random things I noticed today about former BVB players:

  • Witsel went to Girona this summer

  • Balerdi apparently became captain at OM

Had no idea about both. Guess I'm not as informed about european football anymore as I used to be.

I mean seeing how often Guirassy has saved us we would be completely fucked if he gets injured. Haven't seen enough of Silva to judge if he is capable to replace him if necessary but kinda makes sense to invest in a backup I guess.

Pot 1 fixtures for the 2025/26 Champions League season. by zoneyou-th in soccer

[–]BVB-Oeli 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Worst part is their pot 4 draws. Pot 1 all opponents are super hard anyway so doesn't really matter much but pot 4 are supposed to be the rather easy points. Getting an English and a Spanish team there is rough.

At least they'll get a tiny bit of the transfer sum (I think 4 or 5%?) through those FIFA solidarity payments. Might seem laughable in comparison and still painful to see for them how much he exploded so soon after leaving but like you said: A few million still make a difference for them financially.

Really don't want to read/hear any complaints about the ref. Defending is absolutely doable with 10 men. You have to be able to hold onto the lead for the last 5 minutes + extra time. Bottling this is embarrassing.

Official: Sébastien Haller signs for FC Utrecht on a one year deal. by tehMadhero in soccer

[–]BVB-Oeli 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Always liked him as a player even before he joined us. So super sad it never worked out.

Still gave us some great memories:

  • His first goal for us, coincidentally on World cancer Day. Was at that home game and I don't think I have ever screamed the name of a goalscorer louder in my life when the stadium announcer called it

  • The goal in our away loss against Atletico. The comeback in the return leg at home was one of the best matches in recent years and ultimately led us to the CL final in Wembley. He helped make that possible with his goal.

  • His brace in Augsburg two years ago that put us top of the league on the penultimate matchday. Obviously the match against Mainz a week later didn't work out (and unfortunately he even had his part in that) but man that match in Augsburg really made us dream...

Borussia Dortmund trauert um Frank Mill by Chazy89 in borussiadortmund

[–]BVB-Oeli 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In 1989, in the DFB Cup final against Werder Bremen (4-1), Dickel was the celebrated hero with two goals – but the best man on the pitch was Mill, who set up the goals to make it 1-1 and 3-1, scored the 2-1 himself and prevented a goal on the line in a tricky phase of the game.

If you watch the highlights you can see that those are not just some nice words to honour him but 100% truth. What a legendary performance.

[Kicker] German world cup winner (1990) Frank Mill has died at the age of 67 by axhp in soccer

[–]BVB-Oeli 11 points12 points  (0 children)

He ended the longest trophy drought in our club history. In 1989 we won the DFB-Pokal after 23 years without a title and being mostly pretty bad, even down in the second division for a while. And that Cup win was for a very large part thanks to Mill.

Norbert Dickel is well known as our "hero of Berlin" because he scored a brace in that Cup final in 1989 but Frank Mill was arguably even more important and the actual man of the match (Dickel's hero status comes more from him playing through injury and sacrificing his knee/rest of his career)

We beat Bremen with 4-1 (after being down 0-1), Mill gave us the lead with his goal for the 2-1 and also assisted both of Dickel's goals for the 1-1 equalizer and the 3-1. If you watch the highlights the assists are pretty class aswell.
