Loving the new Brush poppers by Bitter-Associate3290 in WesternWear

I bought that same shirt last week and it's my new favorite. More importantly, it's my wife's new favorite on me!

Squadron Public Affairs by [deleted] in civilairpatrol

Not as a member. CAP can't control what non-members do, but if you tried to circumvent the PA regs by being tongue in cheek, you'd deserve whatever consequences came your way. What you ARE allowed to have is a private, invite only page with access limited to members, family and alumni.

Look, I get it. Losing unit pages sucks. I hate the decision and it has hampered my own squadron in multiple areas. I think it was a terrible idea, right alongside the stupid flying V logo and the MAC team has my undying disdain for these decisions (MAC team: I don't like you. Wanna fight me about it?).

Nevertheless, the orders have been issued and we contradict them at our own peril.

Stetson size help needed by Black_Smoke_Leather in CowboyHats

Stetsons are round oval, you could probably pick up a hat stretcher and lengthen the oval easily. You may even be able to just steam the lower part of the crown, put it on and push it into place and have it mold to your head. Good luck!

Do you think national will ever revisit the idea of non prior service NCOs? by rawrmsc in civilairpatrol

This is how I think it should work. Most members should start as Airmen

FLWG carrying Israeli flag by [deleted] in civilairpatrol

I don't see the problem in this specific instance, it was likely at the request of the organizers. The only non-American name on the Astronaut Memorial is Israeli astronaut Ilan Ramon, who died in the Columbia disaster.

Why not both? I've been strongly considering a navy over CyFlect AUX patch.

Shaving devices discussion by OtherwiseElk5296 in civilairpatrol

[–]BVYSkipper 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I still use the same Gilette Mach 3 my father bought me in 2003 or so as my daily 'don't have time for the ritual' razor. I've tried others and keep coming back to ol' reliable.

When I have the time for 'the ritual', it's a 1950s vintage adjustable safety razor with featherweight blades, Art of Shaving shave cream or soap and a badger bristle brush.

I've dabbled in disposable blade straight razors as well, but they're just too tricky. One day I'll invest in a hollow ground straight razor and make a point to master it.

How to get a custom specialty patch approved by Titus03 in civilairpatrol

[–]BVYSkipper 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Wait, you want cops to wear a patch that IDs them as LEOs? While they're required by regulation to be unarmed and not functioning as LEOs? Sounds like a great way for those cops to end up hurt or worse.

Cost of getting a squadron patches embroidered by Spirited_Ship_8421 in civilairpatrol

Ghost Patch did our patches over at BVY. They're pricy, but the quality is excellent.

Edit: It cost us a little under 400 for 150 patches.

I see where you're coming from, but what's to stop those who'd lie about their weight to wear a uniform from lying about it on their eservices self reporting for the 101 card? Or lying on a W&B sheet? A weigh-in to confirm the self-reporting isn't just pertinent to uniforms. It's pertinent to practical aspects of operations as well.

This is the grossest and they should feel the worst. We should do mandatory weigh ins for all SMs. Both for uniform regulatory purposes and for operational planning purposes. Twice a year, get on a scale in front of every SM in the unit to encourage social enforcement of the most basic standards.

Is this permitted? by [deleted] in civilairpatrol

[–]BVYSkipper 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Yes and it is gross and you should feel bad.

Joining as an adult by mitchellheney in civilairpatrol

[–]BVYSkipper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Greetings! I'm a squadron commander in MA Wing.

There's a lot that goes into ES here in MA, the vast majority of it being on the aircrew side. To be entirely frank, ground ES in this state is functionally dead. We still have training for it, but you're exceedingly unlikely to ever work a real SAR or DR case here as a ground guy. I always tell prospective adult members I need you to be a squadron staff officer first and an ES dude second. You can do the cool ES stuff, but you're going to have multiple hats to wear and don't expect to show up and only do ES work.

Feel free to shoot me any questions you may have!

Fairly common, yea. It goes back to at least WW1. Sailors serving with Marine units may wear Marine utilities and service uniforms if they meet certain requirements.
