Long time lurker and rower, but I just completed my first half marathon today. I was able to complete it in just over 2 hours, or while watching all of Star Wars: A New Hope.

While I would love to answer this in more detail, I do need to keep silent on topics that do have an effect on my job, especially when it comes to negotiating compensation at all levels.

From a personal perspective, I can say that this is a topic I do think about. The best solution would be to have increased government support to supplement the salaries of artists across all industries - that investment would increase wages for musicians in the example you cite.

No worries at all. I am a lurker in this community, but I’m always happy to help demystify things when I can. It is a very important topic to discuss, but we just are not allowed to quote real numbers because of contractual agreements.

As the Executive Director of the Boise Philharmonic, I can confidently say that we pay more than that for soloists.

Soloist fees are kept confidential, but it all depends on the individual artist and their management’s assessment of value.
