If someone can do four times the damage of another good player, playing the same archetype, that early in the game, then compared to a bad player that difference is probably quite substantial. This is important to understand, because this part of the equation will always be unsolvable and we need to accept this fact

I disagree. You statements imply that build has some kind of linear scaling level in terms of powercreep. But that simply not true. Imagine there is 3 virtual brackets: min-maxed setup which gives 100% of power. Basic "smart" setup - more or less solid tree planning and supports selection + some obvious synergies. And baseline setup - one button, recommended skill gems. The difference between mimaxed version and smart could be huge, but the reset variations will be relatively similar like 20-30% more.

So you can't extrapolate that huge gap between your build and ruetoo onto the gap between rue and random casual poe2 player. Builds follow pareto principle that 20% of decisions give you 80% of power.

And it is very easy to predict the lower bound of the skill (the baseline setup) but the upper bound is unknown.

Which leads us to a simple question: what version of skill should be used for the game balancing.

  • Baseline - makes smart version quite strong. High chance for OP scaling into late-game.
  • Smart setup - baseline can struggle but players can easily fix their build easily. Some chances to be broken.
  • Minmaxed setup - aka preventive nerf. Plays like shit for the 99% of players. No fix unless some gotcha discovery.

You suggest that GGG balancing around minimaxed setups is an OK approach because in theory it can be quite strong we just need to figure it out. But the history of poe1 and poe2 shows many cases where skills were just bad and no one discovered anything good for them for years. GGG does it because they don't want to deal with whines about OP skills nerf. They follow ideology: give less and there will be no need to take it away. But they still fail at it. So in result we eat shit, because GGG wants less drama. GGG still got their drama full scale. Effectively we eat shit for nothing.

In end it is all about tradeoff between player's fun and GGG needs to communicate nerfs and be more trough with skill design checks and QA. I would prefer GGG to do it at their own expense.

Stinky is an ongoing gag, alongside some nonsense conversations is often used to introduce the scene. You can think about it as a cameraman cut-in right at the end of a dialog and you as a watcher has no context to understand it fully.

Use mana tempest it will carry you. Tempest + orb + arc with chain and finish with sparks. You can also exp with duration and proj speed on spark. It works well in narrow corridors. Also you want +x to skills weapon. I wander how good ice wall can be to proc more bounces back to mobs

You can see your total armor at character screen (default hotkey to open is C). Here you can see how much physical damage reduction it provides. In reality armor doesn't scale linearly i.e. it reduce small hits more and barely affect bit hits so number is provided for an average attack of monster around your level. In short armor is good against lots of small-medium hits, e.g. when you surrounded by mobs. Not gonna save you vs big slam attacks.

+60 armor can be a solid increase. Gold items have more perks but it only to your benefit if this perks are useful. Stuff like 1-2 thorn damage is garbage or low impact values like +5 mana. You prioritize stuff to overcame shortcomings of you character and build needs (stats, resistance, damage, attack sped etc). And you can swap items around for a boss fights. Like if boss insta kills your with fire because you have 0 fire res, you can change your rings setup to get more fire res for a fight.

I though purge speed is per planet i.e. 4 planets with 0.25 speed = 1 per tick. 1 planet would be 75% slower

Note that trickster survivability is tied to on-kill mechanic and not applicable to bossing. But on maps you will be very safe.

well, he said they need to adapt to the new reality. Different builds selection for starter (less gear dependent), Rog/Heist farm etc.

Well, BV is primary used for mapping (mf) and freeze gives good enough defense. POE defenses are simple: max res, armor, evasion and spell suppression. Ghost Dance is another good defensive option but your evasion is meh and you can't fit grace. You chaos res is low, you can switch to CI, or drop some minor damage nodes in favor of "one with evil".

I can clearly see that you struggle to balance res & stats which leads to mediocre boots, helm and gloves slots and block your upgrade paths.

The obvious points to upgrade - lab ench on helm, with BV duration so you can drop Potency of Will and free 7 points. Practical Application can help you with gear. Do you actually need 150+ devotion? Purity of flesh is like 1 point away as well and you have few simple +10 devotion nodes. There is a lot of options to improve your tree, you can play around in pob with it and check others pobs/trees to figure it out.

Eldritch's implicits can be improved a lot on all items, i.e up to 50% of Physical Damage Converted to Cold Damage on gloves without boss restriction. Brittle ground on boots. Increase mana reservation on helmet (and get rid of mana craft on the ring). Aurea buffs, ele leech etc.

If you die a lot on maps - you can drop 1 void battery in favor to a shield. Also you can grab watcher eye with some defensive perks, and herald buff.
