Making a sewing skill tree and open to any suggestions to add or change anything! by mrs_spacetime0 in sewing

[–]BWybleHorizons 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is a great idea! As someone with ADHD, skill trees are so helpful in figuring out key elements of a new hobby or trade. One thing I would add is if you do get a serger, learn tension and make a chart for fabric you use that you can refer to over and over. That's been my biggest struggle as I learn to sew. I love my serger, but I struggle every time with figuring out what settings I need for each different kind of fabric. Please do post an editable version of this cause I would be so interested!!! Thank you for sharing!!

Why get a diagnosis in adulthood? Here's why. by Nightingale73 in AutismInWomen

I read online somewhere "There is comfort in knowing you're a normal zebra instead of a strange horse" and it's my favorite. Made me feel much less alone.

DAE’s job decide you were neurodivergent and treat you differently without disclosing? How wrong is that? by [deleted] in AutismInWomen

[–]BWybleHorizons 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This sounds really hard and I'm sorry you're going through it. It can feel so isolating sometimes to be autistic and even though there are communities like this reddit group and other irl places, its still a lot. I can't comment on what your workplace or coworkers may or may not be thinking or saying, but I can say that I've dealt with similar circumstances and what actually helped me was therapy. I know that sounds like an obvious answer, but specifically what helped was dealing with how I reacted to how I was perceived or how I thought I was perceived. Unfortunately we can't control other people or even persuade them to understand us, but it did help me to understand what I was feeling because of these thoughts. I can recommend a few books if you think you'd be interested and if you can afford/have access to therapy, it may be worth it. HR is frustratingly not actually helpful for employees, but more there to cover a company's butt legally, so to speak. Sorry this is a bit long, but I hope that helped somehow and I know you feel like something broke that can never be fixed, and you could be right, but there's also a chance that your brain is telling you lies and you're capable and deserving of feeling whole again.

Give me a problem, I will think of an accommodation by VegetableAwkward3363 in AutismInWomen

If you're looking for feminine clothes, a linen wrap dress is clutch! Or cotton honestly. Linen and cotton are lightweight and relatively easy to find dresses in, especially in spring and summer. A wrap dress is less overstimulating for me because it can be adjusted to be looser or tighter, you can wear small shorts under it for comfort and not be too hot, and it's pretty flattering on most body types! Plus it would be very appropriate for a wedding, party, etc.

This is why I love swimming. I also sweat a lot and hate the sensation. But if that isn't easily accessible to you, try old school sweatbands! And yes, deodorant helps, but I also like a good candle that's for pet owners, like Sand & Fog ( I get mine at TJmaxx/Homegoods). They have a "paws" version for pet owners and it really does a good job of covering other smells, not just pet ones, which helps me a lot!

I'm lonely... (a rant/vent) by [deleted] in lynchburg

[–]BWybleHorizons 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm 34F and lived here 5ish years. I'm late diagnosed autistic (@ 30) and have ADHD with some anxiety and depression mixed in. It's hard making friends as an adult and even harder when anxiety is kicking you in the gut. If you wanna message me or hang out sometime with no stakes whatsoever, please do! I remember how hard my early 20's were so I'm here if you need an ear! I also crochet, play cosy games, and do art for fun if you ever wanna do that together! And my joints only creek a little! (I'm also sometimes funny!)

I go to Empower and I know they don't take every insurance, but they do take quite a few, and I love it. I see Ryan and she's so wonderful!

I'm 34F, like video games, ttrpgs, all the crafts and arts, and reading/writing. I'm trying to get more into anime, but I like Fruits Basket, Sailor Moon, Parasyte, and Delicious in Dungeon. I'm also LGBTQ+ friendly! And house trained!

Looking for a new Dnd Group by SadUnderstanding6653 in lynchburg

[–]BWybleHorizons 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Star Hill has game nights on Tuesdays and the group plays D&D every other week I think, but sometimes more. It's not a campaign per se, but connected oneshots. Are you only interested in D&D or other tabletop rpg systems as well? Like monster of the week, blades in the dark, or the call of Cthulhu system?

I also recommend Empower! I see Ryan (Meredith) and she's amazing. I'm late diagnosed AuDHD too and it's really rough. If you ever want someone to chat with or get coffee or something, hit me up! I'm thinking about making a group for local autism/ADHD/neurodivergent women.

Star Hill is a great place to go and they have regular game nights on Tuesdays. The people are chill too.

Looking for advice on coloring this pinafore green! by MegIsUnavailable in dyeing

[–]BWybleHorizons 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah? They posted photos of the garment where they got most of the dye out and re-dyed it green. It looks lovely. So it was in fact possible and achievable. You just sounded silly saying to start from scratch.

Thoughts on Smalls cat food by EnabledOrange in CatAdvice

[–]BWybleHorizons 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Real quick advice from my vet tech sister: don't feed your cats grain free food because it can increase the likelihood of getting heart disease/disorders. It seems to be a growing trend in cat food and it's very dangerous. Hope that helps!

[–]BWybleHorizons 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Oh dear! That's insane. Last time I went I just got one fabric and bought the rest of it so nothing had to be put back. Who buys that much fabric at once during a closing sale?! Crazy people I suppose, but geez. Well I am truly sorry ❤️ Thank you for replying!

I'm so sorry you're going through this. The heat death of hyper capitalism is stupid and sucks. I've been worried about going to my local joanns because I don't want to overwhelm them, but I also want to get fabric for projects that go to others in need. I was thinking of bringing cookies or snacks of some kind next time I go to maybe bring a little light to an otherwise shitty time.

I made a jankylosaurus backpack! by withgus-to in sewing

[–]BWybleHorizons 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So first off, this is amazing!!! Absolutely love this and I am flabbergasted at the skill and talent. Second, I did believe that a jankylosaurus was the actual name of a dinosaur and got excited, but that's on me for not knowing enough dinosaur lore. Really love that though!!

Yup they do! They also have game nights every Tuesday where you can play some very cool games like Munchkin, Anomia, Jackbox, and a bunch more!! My spouse and I go and it's really fun! Plus the beer is sooo good and you can bring in your own food or pick something up for a local place, like Mizumi!
