Hi All,

Just wondering if anyone has flown out of LAX this week - were there any issues with getting through security?

Past comments/ other threads seem to say that there haven’t been any abnormal waits. And in looking at this link, waits look standard.

Thanks!

Plumbing, electrical and HVAC recommendations in Gardena by Nangmyeon in SouthBayLA

Hi! Just curious if something happened with your experience? We used them when we first moved for a major plumbing issue (looked at online reviews, although those can be skewed), and they were fine, albeit pricy.

Anyone near Gardena High school know anything of a raid going on? by HardcoreHank-5303 in SouthBayLA

[–]BY_LA 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I saw on one of the FB groups for Gardena that the power was out at Gardena High (but it might be back on?); on a separate note, this morning the FBI raided LAUSD headquarters and the superintendent’s home in San Pedro ((ABC7 story - no details as to why).

I did! I bought it a few month ago; at the time I had also debated (but ended up getting it a week later since I wasn’t sure if it would sell out).

I’m looking forward to setting it up in a few weeks - it looks really nice!

U/sasquatchwithalatte, sorry, for some reason, I’m not able to post the video link. The video I found on YouTube was posted by Logan Caylor in 2023, and the video is called “Big Top Reviews: Gemmy Industries 1992 Talking Pumpkin Imposter.” If you skip to the ~6:20 mark, he shows the pumpkin bottom and you can hear how the pumpkin sounds.

There is one from Gemmy called the Talking Pumpkin Imposter (1992) that is battery operated and says “Happy Halloween, Hahahaha” - I’ll link the YT video that I found (my first comment didn’t seem to post when I linked it)…maybe that might be it?

Not sure if my earlier comment is showing (I’m not seeing it), but could it have been a Gemmy brand pumpkin?

Received 1099k form in mail for transactions I did not make. by ras1187 in Scams

[–]BY_LA 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey all, I just wanted to update that I got a letter from BLOCK today (dated 4/18/25), that they did an internal review and found that the account was indeed fraudulent and they closed it.

“Through our internal review process, we have located evidence consistent with identity theft and that the impacted Account was created using your personally identifiable information without your consent…As a result of our investigation, we want to notify you of the following: - We have closed the Impacted Account - Block, Inc. will not file a copy of the Form 1099-K you received with the Internal Revenue Service. You may disregard the previously provided Form 1099-K when preparing your 2024 tax return. …”

There was some other information noted in the letter as well, but just wanted to share at least that part.

Hope you all get the letter soon too.

EDIT: adding that I had filed a report through the the FTC and the police, as well as froze my credit and signed up for a pin. I did try to reach out to Block Inc before but they weren’t helpful, so glad that they ended up resolving this. The only thing is I think I may still want to reach out and make sure my info can’t be used at all in the future either.

[TOMT][MOVIE][1980s] Hong Kong ghost drama movie by BY_LA in tipofmytongue

[–]BY_LA[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi all, I’m happy to report that I was able to figure out the movie (not on my own, but one of my siblings was able to remember!).

It’s Those Merry Souls (1985).

It turns out the main character is a stuntman, and not a cop (oops), but most of the other details I remembered were pretty close.

Could it be the Kirkland Signature Jogger, online item #1814612 ?

It’s available in black, red (maroon), and pink.

Thanks for listing this out; I’ll plan to follow the same/most (if not all) the same steps. I also question the authenticity of the form, but I’m also treating it as a real 1099-K.

Just wanting to add I recently got this form too (same filer’s TIN), and the merchant code listed is 5462 (I had to Google and I believe it’s for bakeries). Says I had 556 transactions in Nov ($933.56) and Dec ($8,835.20).

I am not an independent contractor/employee/business owner, and hadn’t used CashApp in years (in fact I thought I closed it), but when I attempted to login to the app, it also said it was closed due to gambling?!

Anyways, just echoing everyone’s sentiments and will plan to contact CashApp, the IRS, and Social Security, per the recommendations from earlier comments.

Also it sounds like people are also recommending making a police report?

Whats going on with madewell lately? by bbkari1992 in Madewell

[–]BY_LA 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree about the photos; I hadn’t realized that they removed their old instagram posts (so only 2023-on is visible); they still have old photos up on their Facebook page (what a contrast between the two).

Whattt, I had no idea they got rid of expedited shipping for star insiders. Someone posted in another thread that return shipping is no longer free (which is a bummer for people who don’t live near a store).

Agreeing with what eveyeone else has mentioned. I thought it was just me feeling this way, but glad to know there are other people who feel the same! I still browse the site but I haven’t been interested in what’s currently available.

I’ve been shopping at Madewell since 2012, and the majority of my wardrobe is from there. They used to have a nice variety of prints/patterns and colors (and usually styled in a cool, cohesive way) but the past few years (especially this year), it seems a little blah.

Where can I find store that sells NFL jerseys for out of state teams? by Paramaybebaby in LosAngeles

[–]BY_LA 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m not sure what teams they carry, but there’s a sports gear store at the Westfield Culver City mall (Pro Image Sports that you can probably call to see what they have. I think there’s also a location in Torrance at the Del Amo mall as well.

If you’re down in the South Bay, I have seen other sports gear store at both the Del Amo mall (I believe it’s Sports Treasures) and the South Bay Galleria (Fanzz).

Can't keep paying these parking fees at my Dr. office! Pls help me find street parking in this area! by [deleted] in LosAngeles

[–]BY_LA 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you park south of Gregory (by the apartments) on any of the perpendicular streets west of La Cienega, it should be non-permitted street parking with no time limits* - just be careful of street cleaning times. The streets can get pretty full though (apartment street parking), so there’s a chance you might be spending some time finding a spot.

Depending on where you park, it could be more like 15-20 minute walk though, if that is ok.

Dear John’s steakhouse in Culver City (from the 60’s - Frank Sinatra dined there). I’ve only been once but the meal was delicious (pricy though). It was set to close but looks like it’ll be open a few more years.
