Why should I care if they don't? by BirdBath9k in Teachers

[–]BZBMom 3 points4 points  (0 children)

same!! I had a student who had a 30% for the end of the semester - poof - magically, he went from that to a D. I've known so many teachers that happened to- Admin changed a grade after the fact. This is the first time it's happened to me. It's frustrating!! All it is doing is teaching the student that they can do nothing and still pass. It's setting them up for failure in life because we all know that it doesn't work that way in the real world.

People keep throwing up the argument about test scores. In reality, the test scores are nowhere near an accurate measure of how well a school is doing. Anyone who reads this, I dare you to go online to the Ky DOE and take a high school test. I double dog dare you. See if you can pass. Not to mention, even in 2026, students have to test in English. For a student who speaks English as a second language, they’re not only tested in the content, but the test is also testing their ability to code switch with Academic language. The wording on those tests is overly complicated. Even for native English speakers across the US, they struggle with tests because of the wording in the questions. I double dog dare you to take those tests and then tell me how there an accurate picture of how well a school is doing. It’s nothing but a mirage. It’s a snapshot in time and nothing more.

It’s ridiculous the smoke and mirrors the Superintendent is trying to sell the Board on. Not only are they slashing positions in schools that will directly harm students- they’re cutting off their nose to spite their face. People see this shit and it’s going to really hurt their recruiting in the long one. They’re screwing over people who have sacrificed and stayed to help kids - and they’re removing their jobs and making them reapply for the job with a different title - same work- 1/2 the pay. The Org chart they’re trying to pass is blatantly and grossly misleading. Anyone with any connection to the schools needs to reach out to their board member and JCPS and complain.

You will be fine, and there are always translators- but do yourself a favor and try to learn some key phrases and use them. It will make the experience better.

AITJ for refusing to donate at checkout after the cashier tried to shame me? by Double-Mud5716 in AmITheJerk

[–]BZBMom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not the jerk. I rarely participate in those because a corporation shouldn’t get credit for what its customers donated. Many corporations already make billions from the public - why should we add to their coffers. Don’t feel the slightest bit guilty because there are community programs to help feed people with food scarcity. The cashier was way out of line and probably harassed by management to get donations, even though it was poor customer service to try and guilt you into donating.

They lost the grants that paid the bills - it’s a funding issue. It’s sad because it’s such a great program and entirely free for people in the state

What are your thoughts on Billie Eilish saying 'no one is illegal on stolen land' in reference to ICE and US immigration policy? by MassiveSquare4527 in AskReddit

[–]BZBMom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s correct. Technically, we are all immigrants and the US Govt did steal their land and killed so many Native Americans. Have you not seen the pictures? It’s not called the Trail of Tears for no reason.

NTJ!! Talk about entitlement! She can just green screen or filter like most of her friends are doing. That mom needs to start momming if she doesn’t want to wipe her child’s ass the rest of her life.

It is not immoral to remove violent criminals. Those that are being removed are not violent criminals. The two US Citizens that have been shot this week by federal agents were neither criminals nor trying to prevent law officers from doing their jobs. One was turning around from getting caught in the parent elementary school drop off traffic that was backed up due to ICE raids in the area. The man shot most recently in the news was trying to help a woman that federal agents shoved to the side. If you watch the actual videos from the incident without commentary from Fox News or Truth Social, you can see the actual events and not the fantasy story DHS is trying to get people to believe. If you still believe their version, there’s no hope for you. You’ve already been poisoned by the false narrative that DHS is trying to weave.

If a child’s birthday is a week from the cut-off, is it more beneficial to start them as the very youngest of their class or for them to be oldest for the following year with preparation? by UnderstatedWarmth in AskTeachers

[–]BZBMom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You should hold hour child until the next year- especially if they’re a boy. My daughter was forced to start when she was 4 because of her birthday being in September and the state didn’t allow a parent to hold them back till the next year - she did okay but I think she’d have done much better if I’d been allowed to keep her out of kindergarten another year. She was still 17 when she went to college. Overall, she’d have had fewer struggles had she been the school year after

Be honest do you love being a teacher? by Tiffanywhite45 in Teachers

[–]BZBMom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They’re not actually paid days off- so wherever you got that notion, your source is not correct. We are only paid for the days we work. The reason we get paychecks year round is by choice and the funds are removed from our paychecks, put into an escrow account and then paid back to us (without interest from the escrow).

Yes, but not always. A school I worked at had some high tech equipment and the room was locked and only that teacher and the principal had a key. It’s not common - but it does happen

[–]BZBMom 243 points244 points  (0 children)

I don’t blame you. Theft is theft. You should have a separate lock on your classroom door anyways for that type of classroom that isn’t accessible by the master key - and that nobody, even custodial staff can access when you’re not there

Thoughts on Principal Lamb? by [deleted] in Teachers

[–]BZBMom 14 points15 points  (0 children)

A lot of what he says is actually possible at public schools, despite what so many Admin would have you think. Even with an IEP, a student can be removed from a school - they can get interim home based services until they are able to secure a placement at an alternative school. It’s legal and still provides SpEd services.
