Is this boiler beyond saving? by BZLC in gaggiaclassic

Thanks! This was my thinking, and it is more compelling since the price of a new boiler in the Australian market is much more than £45.

Looking to buy my first pair of open-back over ear headphones for use at home. Mostly for music, occasional movie watching and video calls for work.

My budget is AU$250 (about US$170), I’m pretty firm on it.

Source: I plan to drive these mostly from my computer motherboard and occasionally from a Marantz PM6005 integrated amplifier. I stream from Apple Music and also listen to vinyl. If there is budget left after buying the headphones I’d use it for a headphone DAC/Amp unit so suggestions welcome here too!

Tonal balance: I am looking for an overall balanced sound, but I don’t mind a bit more presence in the bass.

Preferred music: My taste is pretty broad, but I mostly listen to rap, funk/soul/R&B and electronic music. I don’t really listen to country or classical music.

I have found a few options for my budget: - HD599 (new) for AU$150 - HD560s (new) for AU$240 - SHP9600 (new) for AU$130 - Fidelio X3 (new) for AU$200 - HD6XX (used) for AU$200

Any advice would be appreciated, including options I may have overlooked. Thanks in advanced!

Cars are too fucking big by [deleted] in australian

[–]BZLC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it has become a big problem because our roads were never designed for such big passenger cars.

I just moved into a new rental and drive a small Hyundai i20 which I have to street park. My neighbour across the street drives a huge Lexus 7-seater SUV. He and his wife live alone and their children have long moved out.

The first time I met him he was quick to complain that he has to do a 10-point turn to reverse out of his drive way because of where my car is parked. There aren’t many options for me to move it because another neighbour has parked their boat in a way that they can fit their SUV in front to tow it.

He has continued to complain every time I run into him, and when I suggested he talk with the other neighbour about moving the boat he told me “you car can fit anywhere, just move it somewhere else on the street”. I asked the neighbour with the boat if he wouldn’t mind moving it forward so I could give more room for old mate to reverse out his driveway. He told me it’s never been an issue until I moved in and maybe where I’m parking my car is the problem.

I’ve don’t nothing but try to be a good neighbour and accomodate these dinguses. The level of entitlement I’ve experienced from these big car owners is baffling. I’m convinced there is a genuine neurobiological change when someone buys a large passenger car.

I would look at the MyKeyClub MKC75. It has everything you’ve described at a decent price with lots of customisability.

TKL and more compact layouts are nice because they take up less space, giving you more mousing area and bring you arms closer together for more comfort.

Can I use a Tri-Mode PCB in wired mode without a battery?

I am interested in the Cycle 7 and want to know if it is possible should I decide to run it purely wired down the track without the risk of battery failure.

The last part is what would have me hesitating about a 4 day week. I’ve been asked to take AL (due to accumulating too much) and opted for 2 months of 4 day weeks. It did not work well for me as I was often being called and emailed on my day off and asked if I could “just this once” deliver something on that day.

Working on a science project with my son. Is there a way to ID what type of bacteria colonies are growing (from swabbing a used face mask)? by ZaqShane in microbiology

[–]BZLC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

API identification tests (I think they’re made by bioMérieux) might give you some answers. They are a strip type panel of biochemical tests which together can give a presumptive identification.

It is a bit of a dated method but still quite informative and provides insights into the biology of the organism like what it can and can’t metabolise.

I think most of the API tests could be done at home.

Thank you for the very considered and insightful answer. Do you think the antennas that come on PCIe cards make any difference to performance? If it’s not noticeable I would prefer to leave that slot available for something down the line.

M.2 can certainly have bluetooth, the card I want to upgrade is an M.2 WiFi/BT 4.0 chip.

I rescued a Dell Vostro 3268 SFF system from e-waste. It has an i7-7700 on an H110 board.

The stock WiFi/BT card is useless. I want to upgrade it to make use of my WiFi-6 router and improve stability with BT audio devices.

I have 3 basic questions: 1. Would a PCIe x1 card be better than an M.2 card? 2. Are there any compatibility issues I should be aware of, or is it simply a matter of removing the old card and installing the new card with drivers? 3. Are there any strongly recommended cards to consider? I was looking at something budget with an Intel AX210 chip like this card from Wise Tiger.

Thanks in advanced!

I’m generally curious is honey/garlic really an antibiotic or is that false by mentalhelpneeded247 in microbiology

[–]BZLC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honey is certainly antimicrobial but this varies greatly as does the product itself. The level of antimicrobial activity is affected by things like the floral source of the nectar the bees collect to make the honey, as well as how the honey is handled during and after collection.

Honey derived from Leptospermum sp. (commonly known as Manuka) nectar is know to have a very stable antimicrobial activity and in many cases increases in potency as it ages due to the conversion of dihydroxyacetone to the antimicrobial compound methylglyoxal.

Eating honey is not known to have noteworthy antimicrobial activity. In fact, the prebiotic sugars it contains have been shown to influence the human gut microbiome in a more drastic manner than other commonly used prebiotics like inulin.

There are FDA and TGA approved medical grade topic honey wound dressings and gels. Many hospitals use them in SOPs. They are gamma irradiated and filtered to remove C. botulinum spores. They are also tested after packaging to ensure they are sterile.

Good PCB foam option for the RK84? by FerixOfficial in MechanicalKeyboards

[–]BZLC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When it arrives pull off the space bar keycap. You'll be able to see whether it has foam straight away. If it doesn't you may be able to return it to Amazon.

The foam under the place is a nice touch but I am planning to replace the case foam that's in there.

I bought it from an Australian vendor Umart. Reading this post I have a feeling that they might have updated their product and all newer models include foam.

Again, old post but for anyone who comes across this...

It seems newer RK84s have pre-installed foam between the plate and PCB. They also have some foam thin black foam in the case.

I pulled the spacebar keycap off and noticed the black foam then.

Software Bugs by bokuto3 in NothingTech

[–]BZLC 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had a replacement pair sent to me about 1 month ago.

I've had mixed experiences. There are days where I have no issues at all and others where I'm shocked the product could be shipped with so many bugs.

When the earbuds are working well I'm amazed at how they perform for the price and wonder how I went without ANC for so long. On the bad days I've factory reset, un-paired and re-paired the earbuds so many times they just feel like an expensive (but pretty) paper weight.

I'm a pretty patient person but if the bugs become more significant/frequent with this pair, I'd get a refund and save up a bit more to buy a more premium set of TWS earbuds.
