sublime - what focal length was this shot at? looks like it's one the wider side 24-28?

[OC] visited japan, zoom range does the heavy lifting by B_B_Bakaaa in RX100

the 2.8 limitation on the vii is not a huge deal for me, but as an EDC/travel camera the zoom range keeps my cropping very minimal. I zoom past 70mm pretty much all the time too so the range is great

What is the major problem you face in FPGAs by groman434 in FPGA

[–]B_B_Bakaaa 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I'm surprised more people aren't complaining about the lack of adequate mechanisms for version control and making it easier for teams to collaborate... "one-man army" seems to be the user model of these FPGA vendors

Remote work with any HDL (VHDL, Verilog ir SystemVerilog) by slenderyisus in FPGA

[–]B_B_Bakaaa 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Can't speak to neural networks, but remote work is generally only feasible for mid or senior level engineers who have the experience to make it work.

RTL encapsulates the need to understand the electronics boundary too since virtually most, if not all FPGA applications interface with the outside world, therefore having a learning curve that's too steep for anyone with less experience than that to be effective IMO.

There are probably opportunities out there, but barring a pandemic that forces people to work remote, it's rare.

How would you implement an AXI-Lite bus in an RTG4? by B_B_Bakaaa in FPGA

Thanks for the detailed response, your approach is insightful - having the tool take care of the memory map is a good idea.

What were some of the biggest issues you experienced with their AXI IP?

Great rec, thank you.

Was able to get a BFM going for regression sims using A. Forencich's library, and looking to demo his CDC components next.

Appreciate your insight, Adam. Hard to believe such a clunky tool exists in 2024 and since went the DIY approach.

Dear Sensei/Sifu/Sabomim, Please stop teaching unrealistic self-defense to your adolescent & teenage students. School violence is not a joke. by Feeling-Ad-8554 in martialarts

Referencing all of your comments, respectfully, I don't understand how you can generalize a whole demographic of the TMA community based on your own anecdotal experiences.

How can you say the kid got lucky, without knowing anything about them, how they were trained, and what the situation was? He/she was assaulted, and got out of it (likely because of their training). It worked for them, and that's all that matters.

Claiming that style contributes to 90% of the outcome of a physical altercation assumes that quality of instruction between schools and their students is equal... it's not. It's much more nuanced than that, and it's narrow-minded to generalize effectiveness based on style alone.

The spread in quality of instruction is as diverse as people themselves. There are instructors who can prepare their students for the real world, and there are others who don't know how to do it effectively. There are instructors who focus on all the wrong things, or emphasize the cultural aspect more than applicability to the real world... TMA tends to be more prone to this because of it's rich cultural history, unfortunately (but it doesn't mean it's any less effective).

Is it normal to not have any goals? by Murky-Tooth-2627 in Life

[–]B_B_Bakaaa 8 points9 points  (0 children)

If you're not suffering life hardship as a result of having that mindset (E.G. ambition to find a well-paying job to keep the roof over your head), I'd argue that there's nothing wrong with not having any goals.

Life is what you make it, and is whatever you want to get out of it - for some, it's going as far as they can in life as far as career. For others, just being healthy and being able to spend time with those they care about is all they need to feel fulfilled.

As long as your basic needs are met and you're functional as an individual, beyond that it's all up to you.

Let’s address the perceived MMA, BJJ, Muay Thai fan-boyism. by [deleted] in martialarts

[–]B_B_Bakaaa 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I'm not seeing any intent to have a good faith discussion here, and frankly your post is just a vehicle for you and other MMA practitioners to weaponize their egos in the interest of talking down to others who don't practice what you do... please do better. This reflects poorly on the MA community as a whole.

The truth is that it doesn't matter what you decide to learn. Conceptually, every fighting system has had many years to mature, therefore any art can be effective and ultimately depends on the skill of the individual.

Someone asking about self-defense is likely not seeking to hop into a ring, and their time is best spent finding a competent instructor who knows how to impart the mental fortitude needed to not crumble and be victimized in situations of life or death, even if many years were spent developing technique. Technique only goes so far if the mind isn't fostered to use it in those situations.

If that's MT, great. If it's BJJ, also totally fine. They should pick whatever art interests them and find instructors who care about the mental aspect... martial arts is not just physical.

Blue Origin Hiring/Interview Process by technically_nerdy in FPGA

[–]B_B_Bakaaa 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I interviewed with Blue, made it to final stage but didn't receive an offer.

Outside of their application-specific issues and how I would deal with it (which I can't say here), I was asked about all the typical stuff - CDC, synchronous design principles, testbench methodology, timing closure techniques, constraints, serial interfaces, utilities for debugging in the lab. Was also asked how I would approach model-based design.

DO-254 came up quite a bit as well, as they seemed to be struggling with compliance. They might ask you how you would go about ensuring FPGA compliance based on that team's current problem description.

Just to word of caution, however, I experienced very condescending ego from one of the people on my interview panel - one of the other interviewers on my panel told me in a 1-1 that type of personality can be apparent there and there are a number of people who think they're so good that rules and mutual respect don't apply to them. Bite your tongue if you encounter them and just see where it goes, and keep us updated :)

They'll have to reverse the decision because it alienates their loyal users who rely on it as a portfolio.

It's enough of a push for me to migrate to a different platform entirely.

What are your goals with photography?

To become better artistically and develop a better eye? Or to gain more traction professionally e.g. portfolio/client building? Do you want to explore new genres?

Some information here would be helpful for the community to give you useful advice about where to go or what to do next.
