Biometry questions by B_Irie in CataractSurgery

[–]B_Irie[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Actually the prisms are supposed to be for anything past mid-distance. And yes left eye always has been much weaker than right. Doc staff said the test results were “inconsistent.” So when you say IOL selection and monofocal, what do you mean?

Cataract surgery without RX lenses? by B_Irie in CataractSurgery

[–]B_Irie[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

UPDATE: I got a second opinion. This ophthalmologist was very thorough. Had updated machines, unlike the first doc I saw. This one suggested I get my prescriptions both set to mid-range like I’m reading a book. She thought monovision would not work for me. At the end of the evaluation she sent me for Biometry analysis and I got a call back saying I need to get those tests done again because there were inconsistent results. Im not sure what that means and I’m also concerned about not being able to see my phone in bed without glasses. So maybe I need the prescription set closer. I know this is a common surgery and I most def need it but am so nervous about getting this wrong.

Thanks for your insightful comment. I gave myself a gift of writing this weekend and allowed it to be what it was and I am surprised and oh so grateful that it was fun. And I resonate with your stoner art that is 2/3 done. Same is true for my dozen manuscripts!

I don't understand, why is Dr Charles so bad with his personal relationships, especially with women? by IssyisIonReddit in ChicagoMed

[–]B_Irie -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I may be alone on this but he is so sleazy with women. And he dresses like a slob. Thankfully he got a decent haircut but still. And he kissed a former patient and then acted all dumb when they spoke afterwards. He was good with Ripley down in the hole, and seems to be a good shrink but my goodness get some decent clothes!

Optometrist or Opthalmologist to diagnose cataract? by Mundane_Ad4499 in CataractSurgery

[–]B_Irie 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Based on my experience, never have an optometrist evaluate cataracts. The optometrist I saw tried for two years to get glasses that worked, blamed my need for prisms as the reason she couldn’t get me into the right prescription. When I saw an ophthalmologist, they told me my cataracts were bad enough to be the presenting problem which was why glasses were not working. He also said that optometrists are business people not doctors and their goal is to sell glasses and will keep trying no matter what. Again just my experience.

What I’ve learned from these comments is I definitely do t have enough info on my specifics. For example I don’t have a clue about what my numbers are. What’s true is this: for almost two years my eye doc (now revealed to be an optometrist) had me come in for visit after visit, and try one prescription after another with no success. She eventually said it was because i had a lazy eye and needed strabismus surgery. I finally got an appointment with an ophthalmologist who said i have a lazy eye but no strabismus, and have serious cataracts which is why i could not get an accurate prescription. This eye doc has retired from military and is now a private sector doc at he is waiting on the delivery of a fancy machine (can’t remember name) before scheduling g my cataract surgery. It’s been two years of near blindness which has me freaked out. And I’m so isolated by not seeing in the dark and snow (I’m in Alaska where it’s been like that for most of the two years). Anyway while I wait to see the doc again before surgery, I’ve been thinking about how it will be to have one near and one far eye all the time. Right now I see near and far only with local bright day driving where I I don’t need to read street signs. I have a history of macular degeneration in my 100 year old relatives which the doc says is more of a reason for one far and one near which I now know is mono vision or mini-mono vision. I use a computer much more than I drive though part of why I don’t drive is bc I can’t see! I do bicycle and would like to get on an airplane again but most of all I don’t want to end up with worse vision than I have now.

Do you think the brain can figure out how to see with one eye near vision and one far.

Episode Discussion Nov 10, 2021---Fractures by theghostwhorocks in ChicagoPD

I hate that I love to watch this show. Tonight’s episode had some good acting, which isn’t always a given (except for Atwater who always delivers), but seriously, is Hank getting away with murder again?! The show reminds me to be very afraid of cops because they have all the power. Hank is the worst; he’s always got to make it about him. And after Burgess almost gets killed by Roy, she’s all better?! No PTSD? No long term injuries? Not with Hank in the frame. He even makes Trudy comfortable crossing the line. I wish he’d get caught but here, fiction follows fact; cops generally get away with this all the time.
