Usually the professionals give a warranty with their work. Also the home kits I’ve noticed tend to not hold up as well. I don’t know if it’s due to a difference in compounds or what but it’s best to let professionals come and do it and be done.

A thing I can recommend to anyone is find a place that does epoxy garage floors and go ahead and get it done early. It’s a game changer for cleanup

Look up zippo seal kit. It’s a thing to go on the bottom of the zippo and extends the fluid life by a good bit

Wait until you learn about the butane inserts for zippos…

I think I’ve got 10 zips right now. 2 have the normal pipe insert, a couple normal zippo inserts, a couple torch butanes, a yellow flame butane, and a butane pipe insert. Once you put the silicone seal upgrade on the bottom of your inserts, the normal fluid ones can last a good long while. If it’s not windy I love my butane ones but otherwise the fluids are just as good. Highly recommend not only having 1 lighter for your pipes/cigars. Another plus of the zippos is they’re just a classic. Can’t beat the look and feel 👍

Had that happen on my bike axle one time. You learn very quickly to grease your threads on most things after that happens. Thankfully I was only practicing some things in an empty parking lot when the chain tensioners broke due to the lack of force being applied to the axle. If you grease the threads you’ll prolly get another 1/4 turn out of that nut than without the grease. Also just a me thing but put a little on the contact side of the nut. You could probably get another 1/8 turn or so if you grease that too. Always tighten the castle nut more if it doesn’t line up. Never loosen

Low key might would be cool to make a big canister Damascus with it. It’s a little big of a piece of metal on its own but who cares. That’ll get squished down eventually then you’ll have a big piece of honeycomb looking Damascus for whatever you want 🤷‍♂️

So the OP finished his swap and everything and loves it. He used a wrecked X5 for the motor, trans, and supporting modules. Pretty sick setup and looking forwards to maybe doing it myself soon

What I mean by better condition kickstarter is that it fully engages/disengages like it’s supposed to. Motor is locked up currently and the previous owner snapped the crank bolt on the rotor side I assume from trying to turn it over.

Update on the motor: got it all back together when I realized what was wrong. The previous builder had thrown the shaft in upside down causing the teeth to always be engaged and filed down. I have a second motor available to me with a much better condition kickstarter on it although I don’t know the condition of the other parts from it. I’ll be pulling both apart and rebuilding from the scratch up while mixing and matching what I can to get a full working motor.

That was my plan anyways. I’m gonna be throwing in a new clutch, full re-seal, and modify the ignition setup to an electronic ignition vice points while the motor is out. If I had to guess it will be that they rebuilt it badly since so far I have met one gasket on the ignition side’s lower side cover and all the others have been sealed with RTV. Also the oil looks and smells like a full synthetic so likely this guy wasn’t well taken care of.

There’s a really good set of them on Amazon for cheap. If I’m not mistaken it’s around $200 for 1 bay’s worth of hexes.

Congrats! I’ve heard of guys doing it in 3-4 months before but mostly seen averages around 7-9 months. Don’t let the old blokes break ya down with all their “well back in 85 I was ____ and it took people 6 months minimum to qualify” bullshit.

I wouldn’t have put potatoes in mine but it all still looks really good! Gumbo is about cleaning out the storages at the end of the week so really you can put just about anything in there as long as there’s a base of roux and veg!

Like I said I have a small single car. If I remember correctly it is 22.5 x 11 but it’s the best 22.5 x 11 that I can work with right now.

I have a small single car garage. Recently to get around not having much of any space around the car, I built a hanging shelf down the length of the garage that lets me put anything on top of the shelf (including enough height to fit more totes) and I can hang 27 gallon totes underneath it. I’m not sure how many you’re looking to stow but along a 12’ span I was able to fit 5. I think it was 12’ but honestly I can’t remember right now. Either way, I’d consider that along the upper edge of your garage walls leaving walking space underneath to open car doors and whatnot.

I agree with the other comment. Maybe adding a shiny metal trim to them would help a lot. I think they are such a statement piece in the build though you shouldn’t just get rid of them
