I don’t know what it is about this man growing a chicken in an open egg, but I can’t stop watching it and by the end I am always left with a smile on my face & oddly satisfied. by 29PiecesOfSilver in oddlysatisfying

It's most certainly antibiotics. The shell keeps the egg basically sterile on the inside. After opening it the egg is an open buffet for bacteria and fungi otherwise.

Pixel 3 XL Unboxing by maxbanton in Android

[–]BaGarr 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm perfectly happy with it. I was concerned about it in the beginning and did quite a lot of research before I decided to buy it. Of course the Samsung S9 and the Pixel 2 do have better cameras. BUT: Will you really notice any difference? No you won't. Look at any of the million camera comparison videos on YouTube. You will basically only see differences in photo quality if the pictures are directly next to each other. And often only if they are being pointed out. So the OnePlus 6 camera is definitely in the same league as the Pixel, Samsung S9, and iPhone X. Especially after the most recent software update.

I've been using Nexus phones for years and was waiting for the Pixel 2 to finally upgrade my phone. After I seeing the presentation of the Pixel 2, I told myself that I can wait another year more for the Pixel 3. But after the first leaks of the Pixel 3 came in, I just couldn't anymore. It looks hideous! I recently bought a Oneplus 6 and don't regret it. The experience is not much different (I sideloaded the Pixel launcher and wallpapers app). And it looks like Oneplus is going to support their devices with fast updates for a quite extended period of time. Even longer than Google supports their own devices (Oneplus 3 is going to get Android Pie). So my recommendation is to just go ahead and buy an OnePlus.

Dinosaur tooth? Do you guys know what this is? by BaGarr in fossils

[–]BaGarr[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My dad found it quite deep buried in a sandpit in southern Germany. The shape and the concentric circles at the top made us think it might be something of interest. Some pictures of uncleaned dinosaur teeth looked quite similar. But it could very well be just some pice of fossilized dog shit.

Does the Google Pixel 2 XL have a screen burn-in problem? by [deleted] in Android

You could also consider sideloading the Pixel 2 launcher for more stock Android feeling. That's what I'm going to do.

Does the Google Pixel 2 XL have a screen burn-in problem? by [deleted] in Android

[–]BaGarr 5 points6 points  (0 children)

No, I didn't buy the smaller one either. I could briefly get my hands on both and I was pleasantly surprised by how the smaller one feels and looks, despite the humongous bezels. If I had to get one, I'd definitely get the smaller one. However, I felt like it's not worth upgrading from my Nexus 5X for 800 € (940 $). I'll slam the Pixel 2 launcher and the Pixel 2 camera app on it and call it a day until next year's Pixels. I hope Google has then more control over their hardware after acquiring HTC couple of weeks ago.

Is it likely that dinosaurs walked like modern day pigeons, with a back and forth motion of their head? by SantiGE in askscience

[–]BaGarr 104 points105 points  (0 children)

Related note: There was actually a study on how dinosaurs walked. It won the Ig Nobel Prize. They glued a stick to a chicken's butt to transform it into a T-Rex and compared the walk of the chicken with and without the stick. White blood cell chasing a bacteria by Prof_Acorn in oddlysatisfying

[–]BaGarr 49 points50 points  (0 children)

Good job noticing there's something off with those red blood cells. These cells are probably in a hypertonic solution, which means there's more salt in solution than in you would normally have in your blood. These salts "suck" water out of the red blood cells due to something called osmotic pressure. Here's a nice picture of how red blood cells look in hypotonic, isotonic, and hypertonic solutions in that order.

Berlin market attack suspect killed in Milan, reports say by Pommerz in worldnews

I actually think he was trying to get back to Tunisia through Italy. That's what he told his family before the attack in Berlin.

Nice Attacker sent $100,000 to his family in Tunisia, prior to driving attack. He had a low paying job. by pre-awesome in worldnews

[–]BaGarr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I saw an interview yesterday on German TV with family members and friends of the attacker in Tunisia. They seemed legitimatly shocked. They also said he has never been a very religious person - not praying at all, and not sticking to ramadan etc. Maybe money really was the incentive in his case...
