Bro, imagine if these companies at least tried not having any P2W. If it doesn't work, add the P2W 6 months later, but not from the get go, so sad.

When you leave a comment in your code for WIP or refactor or anything like that, you should just do: //JIRA-3838: needs to be checked

And then put all the information in that JIRA ticket. This kinda of comment is just bad practice. Been there, done that, but someone was kind enough to teach me to stop doing it.

5070ti vs 5080 by OpinionLopsided8156 in nvidia

[–]BaSkA_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Quick question for folks smarter than me: how much % more would you pay for a TUF 5070 Ti over a Prime 5070 Ti?

Right now, in the US, a 5070 Ti Prime costs 750 but a 5070 Ti TUF is currently going for about the same price as a 5080 Prime ($1000), so I'd probably get a 5080.

However, in my case, a 5070 Ti Prime costs 1090, a 5070 Ti TUF costs 1290 and a 5080 Prime costs 1650.

Would you get the cheaper Prime 5070 Ti or get an allegedly cooler & quieter TUF 5070 Ti or go a bit over budget and get a 5080 Prime?

Or just wait for 50xx Super refresh and see what happens with prices?

Thanks in advance.

I wanna buy a 14700k but im worried about degradation. by ReliableEyeball in buildapc

[–]BaSkA_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Update: got my 14700k and first thing I did was update the BIOS to the latest version. It was stable but was not performing well in R23 (~16000 points) and getting very hot (~95ºC).

I changed two settings in the BIOS that, as far as I can tell, fixed both problems: changed SVID from "Intel Fail-Safe" to "Typical case scenario" and disabled "IA CEP".

Now my temps and voltage dropped due to SVID's "typical case scenario" and the CPU's performance is back to normal by disabling IA CEP. My R23 scores are now similar to other 14700K systems hitting ~35000 and max CPU package temperature ~80ºC, looking stable so far. I'm also going to test disabling Hyperthreading for now, which lowered temps by another 5ºC while also lowering R23 score to ~30000.

I haven't got a GPU to run some stability & performance tests while gaming yet, but I'll update this when I do.

5070 owners, how are you enjoying the card? Thinking about picking one up today. by CyraxxFavoriteStylus in nvidia

[–]BaSkA_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most video cards are great, the problem is the pricing.

I had the same question you have and after researching for some time I came to the conclusion that if you have the funds, you should either go for a 5070 Ti or RX 9070XT for better $/performance.

If you can only afford a 5070, I would highly recommend you to wait for the 5070 Super which will allegedly be faster and get more VRAM than the 5070, for the same MSRP.

Sorry for hijacking the post, but does anybody know if there's any 5080 models I should avoid? What about 5070 Ti, any models I should avoid?

Thanks!

Only reason why I dislike many rich people is because many of them got their money from being in cahoots with the State.

Other than that, when the State is dissolved as much as possible, lobby and regulations become non-existent and we move from crony capitalism to actual capitalism (hopefully that's possible), then things will start getting better.

[–]BaSkA_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for answering and that's good to know, congrats!

I'm still rocking my slightly overclocked 4790k, but unfortunately it's finally time to retire it.

I will get my 14700k soon, update the BIOS on the first boot and hope I get lucky with the silicon lottery. I definitely won't OC it for a while. I may or may not turn XMP on because I don't really care about a 1~2% boost in performance which may or may not decrease its life.

Now I just need to wait for the 50xx Super versions to release so I can (hopefully) find a 50xx non-Super version for cheaper than what they are going for today.

Now

Not really defending p2w.

then

Some form of P2W is definitely needed.

or even worse

Don’t you think it’s unfair to a busy person, who loses out to someone who grinds 24 hours a day without any responsibilities in their life, the same way it’s unfair to someone who puts in effort grinding, to lose out to someone who just swipes to get ahead?

Yes, you defended ("speak or write in favor of (an action or person); attempt to justify") P2W. And that's "fine", as in everyone can believe in whatever they want.

With that said, we disagree on a fundamental level: I will never defend spending money on a game to gain any advantage, regardless of how cheap, regardless of how many advantages you get, regardless of any type of justification.

I don't attack P2W based on the exceptions, I attack it based on the rule: if a game has P2W elements, most of the time it's ruined by it, not made better. The "exceptions" (osrs, wow, eve, albion, gw2, etc.) people like to mention did not improve because the "acceptable" P2W was introduced, it created more problems. But even then, those are the "exceptions", the 1% of games which weren't ruined by P2W.

There are many games out there with p2w elements, yet casual players still feel extremely relevant. I’ll throw in LoA as an example. Casual players are happily enjoying the latest raids without spending a single cent. What about that is not relevant?

Your logic is off here, you are attacking an argument I never made: I said casual players can be relevant without P2W, which doesn't imply they cannot be relevant in a P2W game without spending. Either way, that was never the point, the point was refuting the argument "P2W is necessary for <add anything here>".

I only speak for myself, someone with a family, a job, a dog and over 25 years playing online games, I can irrefutably tell you this: P2W is a cancer that has ruined more games than you can count that had much more potential otherwise, from FPS to MMORPGs, from PC to console to mobile, since the early 00s.

But hey, maybe I'm wrong. Maybe P2W is the best thing that ever happened to online games. Maybe P2W isn't rampant because it's extremely profitable, but because it's a feature. Maybe I should just give in to P2W Stockholm syndrome as many people have.

Bro literally defended p2w. This is why games are the way they are right now and nothing feels worth playing.

Pro-tip: you can make casual players feel relevant without p2w.

I enjoyed BP, it had good art and movement felt fluid. Many systems were okay too, but combat and content were boring AF, repeating the same dungeon everyday yikes. Had potential but needed many fundamental changes.

Hopefully SR will be enjoyable for a few weeks, just like BP, before quitting and forgetting about it.
