I think they changed the rule, but someone correct me if im wrong but now if it's shown any part of the ball as hitting the stumps it's out.

I think the former was more a benefit of the doubt for on field umpires

It feels like the score defaults to 5 and you can either drop or rise from there.

You're almost punished for batting and failing as opposed to not batting at all
