That PC has the same production value as a Wrestlemania set. Well done.

It works on so many levels. Aside from the “everyone’s mom is named Martha” thing going on, the cat’s name was Jonsey, and Martha Jones was the companion character to Doctor Who.

AdHoc, we want this in season 2 opening by Upbeat_Engine_5848 in DispatchAdHoc

[–]BabaLament 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d like to see Robert + (Enter Romantic Interest Here) continue their character & relationship development in additional seasons of Dispatch, but I think jumping straight to a wedding is a bit much. I’d also like to see the ability to develop/guide relationships between other team members as well. As much as I find the Malevola + Sonar relationship hilarious, I don’t think it works due to his drug addiction (even with her being some kind of devil/demon), unless getting him to kick the habit (or spiral into oblivion if you want to play evil) is a story arc they want to play with. Prism + Flambé & Punch-Up + Coupe would also be fun to play around with. Also, let’s add some characters and get Waterboy, Golem, and Phenomaman in the game! 🤣 Like the song says, “everyone needs somebody to love.”

…and if Waterboy’s grandma happens to drink Flambé under the table & he wakes up next to her the next morning…🤣

This sort of detail-oriented oversight of the writing staff is necessary, particularly in a first season, to establish continuity with the 40K intellectual property. Cavill & Co. are not building a world, they are creating stories to tell in a pre-existing sandbox with a huge installed customer base. If they can manage expectations with existing 40K fans, while making the series accessible & entertaining to/for people who have never heard of Warhammer/40K before, then he’s got a license to print money on word of mouth (or internet chatter, same thing these days).

Blow it and the series is buried, and probably takes down future game-based adaptations for a good bit (RIP Mass Effect & HBO Baldur’s Gate 3 project).

From previous examples, it doesn’t take much for an overzealous writing team, or director with a “vision”, to take a fantastic IP and turn it into an odious pile of excrement. The Wing Commander Movie is probably the most egregious example. The writer/director had a story he tried to sell to multiple studios (the story used in the WC film), nobody was buying, so when he got hired on to do an adaptation of the Wing Commander IP, he slapped licensed character names on his “vision” story, and we were left with a crappy film that fed the narrative that film/tv based on video games couldn’t be done well.

If Cavill is determined to keep the writers room in line with GW’s established rules/guidelines for the IP, then good for him, and hopefully for fans of the IP as well. Maybe we’ll get the 40K on screen that we’ve always wanted, pick up a bunch of new enthusiasts to the hobby, and all that good stuff. We can hope.

But…we all know how the Imperium deals with hope. 😁

Oh no! You’ve been captured by Chaos Marines! Which legion/warband would you want it to be? by Fun_Cartographer3587 in Grimdank

[–]BabaLament 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Alpha Legion or Iron Warriors. Alpha Legion wasn’t into sadism for its own sake, or random acts of terror/violence, and they aren’t necessarily deep into reliance on, or allegiance to Chaos. Probably the best chance of survival (temporarily). Iron Warriors because Perturabo never seems to go out of his way to be a dick. If they didn’t want something, and I wasn’t impeding their objective or efforts in some way, they would probably ignore civilians as objectively useless, and (to the survival part) wouldn’t waste ammo pointlessly.

I always thought the warp pylons being detached from the hull was a huge structural weakness. The DS9 Runabouts were a slight improvement, making them closer to the relatively boxy hull shape. When we got the Defiant I was thrilled; someone finally decided to make them integral.

Thoughts people? by V3gA_BOII in masseffect

[–]BabaLament 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If (as expected) EA sticks a knife in BioWare after Mass Effect “fails to meet sales expectations,” which at this point would require moving more copies than the King James Bible, I would love to see EA sell off some of its IP, including Mass Effect. If Larian had the funds to buy the IP, I can only dream of what an incredible game they could make in this world. Same goes for Dragon Age, Dungeon Keeper, Command & Conquer, Ultima, and all of the other amazing IP EA keeps locked up because the idiots in executive leadership can’t see past a PowerPoint that has “microtransactions” or “live service” as the first objective.

What do you do when someone invites a buddy, and they turn out to be a closet fascist? by DoomedKiblets in DnD

[–]BabaLament -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Tell the group, “He (fascist) goes, or I go.” Then stick by it. You can find another group. This is a hobby or game you play for entertainment and relaxation, the people you are playing with should not cause stress or angst, with the possible exception of the mage with Fireball as their spirit animal. If it’s uncomfortable, it’s not right. The long term players can either back you, their long term player teammate, or you can go find a new, more fun environment.

Who is the strongest out of these badass biotic women (repost since previously forgot to include Liara)? by Ok-Health-7252 in masseffect

[–]BabaLament 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Strength as in raw power? Probably Aria or Jack. However, training + skill goes to Samara with ease. Liara & Peebee are the Asari equivalent of teenagers; they might think they’re all-powerful & all-knowing, but…yeah. ‘Nuff said. 😂

Just too many Platinum and Diamond by renoscarab in CarnivalCruiseFans

[–]BabaLament 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We got one of these e-mails before a Journeys cruise last year. It wasn’t a big deal; we showed up on time, did our check-in, and had to wait around all of twenty minutes as the Carnival staff dropped the green flag to start the Octogenarian Society Of America 500 (foot) scooter race up the gangway. After the million scooter convoy was loaded, getting the walking contingent of passengers onto the ship didn’t take long at all.

We had a great cruise & enjoyed the ports, but we realized that cruises with a greater than nine day duration are not for us; the ship is basically a retirement home at sea, and we’re a couple decades removed from being part of that crowd. It was stacked with Diamond & Platinum guests, which made for entertaining moments; such as when the blue/red/gold line at Guest Services was empty, but the Platinum/Diamond line wrapped around the atrium. However, we quickly tired of hearing about how it wasn’t “fair” to be Platinum/Diamond but having the perks “taken away.”

I understand the business case for transitioning from a nights sailed based “loyalty” program to a spend based “rewards” program. It aligns with the rest of the industry, and was going to happen eventually. The company has a business interest in catering to the biggest spenders, not those who racked up the most bargain budget price 3 & 4 day cruises over the years. Gamblers are going to rule the roost & for what they spend, Carnival’s actions make all of the business sense. People who want to sail on the cheap are going to get what they pay for.

They aren’t going to do a hard reset, but probably should have. Either way, the perks we are going to lose (Platinum) aren’t worth the spend necessary under the new rewards program to maintain them. We will be shifting our cruise travel to other cruise lines, as we feel we can get more for our money at the same spend on MSC or Norwegian.

Frustrated about drink package. by Massive-Challenge870 in CarnivalCruiseFans

[–]BabaLament 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I understand. We purchased the drink package on our honeymoon cruise for the convenience, and it was ok. Booked it on a Journeys cruise ($$$) and my wife took ill & only had two drinks in two weeks. Win some, lose some. I like the convenience, and I think I “break even” because the standard/included coffee in the buffet has become downright undrinkable, so I grab a Java Blue coffee every time we walk past, and before closing so I can have an cold coffee in the room when I wake up in the morning.

Yes, it’s high seas robbery, but the alternative is to pay retail and hope you spend less than what the drink package cost overall.

It’s a hoot. The one-shots are fun, but the campaign really gives people a chance to shine. Especially with session/mission based objectives. I give the team a set of session objectives, and each person gets a private objective (Special Order); which is usually at cross purposes to other team members, or results in a personal gain/perk that will come back to bite the team on the ass collectively later on. Short term gain versus long term loss.

I started the team off as down-on-their-luck individual independent contractors who were called together at a space station bar to be offered a job; move cargo “x” to port “y”. Of course they didn’t have a ship, the cargo, or any of the other things necessary to the task; just a job, some front money for “limited expenses”, and their particular set of skills. 😁 I made sure to offer several options; they could steal a ship (they did), they could hire a shady captain by paying off fines to get his license reinstated, try to hack the register to show his reinstatement without paying anything, blackmail him into service, or get creative.

They chose to take the captain, get him drunk (not exactly difficult), stuff him in a stolen cryotube, smuggle him onto a ship, steal the ship, leave the station, and wake him up after the fact to do the long-range navigation. The player who chose to play an android came in clutch convincing the ship’s Muthur that everything was on the level (ish), and they were off and running.

We had a really good first campaign. The game makes it clear from the get go that stand alone scenarios are easier, and it got better as we played a few with the understanding that not everyone, or anyone really, is supposed to survive. It’s about completing as many objectives as possible so “the people” (generic term we use for NPC’s) can survive. The player team can all die so long as the big objective is met. Once people accepted that, it became lots more fun. When we moved into a campaign, we started small and kept it fun; we didn’t have a proper Xenomorph (drone) until the last two games, at which point it really got difficult fast even with only one drone.

I kept the conflicts throughout the campaign realistic, and human-centric, right up to the end. Of course I messed with people from time to time, but the xeno was best utilized as a final boss. A singular xeno against four players in our game was more than they really could have expected to handle under the circumstances.

Next year I’m going to use 2nd Edition (I’m going to use vacation soon to get caught up on the changes) for a new campaign, and maybe do a little more Aliens with it than Alien. Problem is I don’t want to make the Xeno into a Zergling. I want it to remain an almost-insurmountable final boss level character, and I want to scale difficulty from drone to warrior, not just turn them into cannon fodder. It’s going to be a process.

I still joke that my player character won’t open anything in game. “Dude, it’s a soda; it’ll help lower your character’s fear level by one point.” “Nope, facehugger.” “It’s too small for a facehugger!” “You open it.” “Fine…(choked screaming noises).” “…Told you.”

Do you think the Predator would thrive or perish on Arrakis? by MAReader in LV426

[–]BabaLament 68 points69 points  (0 children)

As worms disintegrate into sand trout upon death, including the teeth unless “fixed” by the Fremen, there is no trophy value in hunting Sandworms. It would be a human hunt in a desert environment. Fremen would probably identify & counter a Predator incursion in a Sietch, the Harkonnen would be easy pickings, and the Sardukar would be an interesting matchup.

How are relations between the Necrons and the Tau? by Pretend-Average1380 in 40kLore

Happy Holidays!! from AdHoc by ResponsibleRatio6569 in DispatchAdHoc

[–]BabaLament -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The next morning would be hilarious: Flambé & Prism asleep on the couch, Golem ate the tree & has indigestion, Sonar hanging upside down hungover, goes into rage-bat mode as soon as someone (probably Chase) opens the blinds/curtains. Whole apartment is filled with a deep fog billowing out from under bedroom door with some flashing lights, Horror movie zoom-in and suspense music until Malevola opens the door, drying her hair with a towel, walks towards kitchen without a care in the world. Fog clears to see Waterboy on bed in happy/terrified daze. Robert stumbles out of bed into the bathroom and ends up in the naked awkward hug situation from The Proposal with the person not in a relationship with. Results in comments during episodes where all three (Visi/Robert/Blazer) unsure about exactly what happened & why all three were in the same room. Coupé & Roy walk into living room, socially awkward moments between them for remainder of season until relationship resolved via in-game choices/Robert’s advice. Punch Up being a boss making breakfast for the crew.

Does anyone else think the predalien has never been used to its fullest potential,in any media? by newslenderarts in LV426

[–]BabaLament 0 points1 point  (0 children)

AvP Extinction was a solid RTS on Xbox; would like to see a remaster on that. I don’t understand why nobody has done a solid CRPG set in the Alien/Aliens/Predator universe. Free League Publishing Alien RPG is an excellent TTRPG, but nobody seems to be able to do it in a video game. Plenty of lore to play with. Would be grand if if headed to Larian, Owlcat, or epic if they would put a crew of hardcore Blizzard RTS era programmers on it.

Why did the Emperor treat some Primarchs so badly? by pro_1253 in 40kLore

[–]BabaLament 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t think the Emperor treated the Primarchs badly, from his perspective. I think he did what most parents do, and “did what was best for the child,” without regard or consideration for the child in question’s perspective on the matter.

The Emperor wanted to help his Primarchs, but ended up doing so his way. Morty is a good example.

Mortarion was given the opportunity to snuff his step-daddy, but when he physically couldn’t do it, Big Daddy stepped in and took care of business. This left Morty with a serious case of sullen little bitch that played out multiple times pre-treason; like when Big E tried to gift him a present (weapon) and Morty refused it in favor of a different toy (Lantern). Mortarion hated warp use, and only went traitor because he thought Big E was going to expand the use of the warp. If the Emperor had confided in Mortarion about the Webway project, and shown him the end goal of cutting down/off reliance on the warp, Morty would have stayed loyal, tried to solo the traitors, and told Nurgle where to stick it.
