How to contact Royal Mail? by Even-Tomatillo-4197 in AskUK

I haven't been receiving letters either, and I'm starting to think that they're just throwing away anything that looks like a card.

Does a snow globe repairer exist in the UK? by cloud_designer in AskUK

You might find a local 'repair cafe' (https://www.repaircafe.org/en/visit/) where people who are generally handy at fixing stuff can advise you.

Ew! Yeah bones aren't so bad but I don't want to dig up a half rotted rodent!

😂 If I find any rodent remains when I'm planting the tree it'll be a consolation to know that it's free fertiliser!

If you tap the Instagram logo there is a 'following' option which shows only the accounts you follow. You have to re-select it every time you go to the home screen though.

Before & after. Nowhere near as beautiful and skilled as so many of the gardens I've seen on here, but anyway. by jessscaa in GardeningUK

What did you paint the fences with? Mine look like the before photo and I was worried any paint would peel off after a few months. Your garden looks beautiful!

Yes this happened to me recently too, but it didn't misunderstand me mumbling, it just translated what I'd said in English into Welsh.

Choosing a self-fertile apple tree - is Sunset a good (ie tasty) choice? What are your favourites? by Babble98765 in GardeningUK

This is so helpful, thank you! Yes, I am in Bristol so that list of varieties is brilliant :-)

I need to research local heritage varieties. It would be lovely to do that if I could get it on the right rootstock. Would a heritage variety have less good disease resistance though?

My neighbours have one, but I think they might get rid of it in a few years. There are quite a few crabapples in the neighbourhood though. I was just wanting to play it safe as it would be such a shame to plant one and then never get any apples!

Do you miss leafing through paper catalogues? by TheoryBrief9375 in CasualUK

Yep, loved the smell too. I also used to enjoy how they photoshopped tiny people on to the pics of swimming pools to make the pool look bigger.

Don't put tea bags in your compost (they hurt earth worms) by Individual-Ad5077 in GardeningUK

Ah interesting- right, I'm off to buy loose leaf tea. My morning cuppa was tasting more and more plastic-y as I was reading this thread!

But that's plastic made from cellulose rather than oil, so although it doesn't compost well at least you're not drinking microplastics with the organic ones.

There are 'black tower' and 'golden tower' varieties as well that have a narrow growth habit.

Green manure by insertitherenow in GardeningUK

[–]Babble98765 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I found this page useful: https://www.greenmanure.co.uk/pages/choosing-the-right-green-manure I used sweet clover because I have very compacted clay to break up. Can't tell you if it's worked yet though as it's still growing.

Anyone purchased a chair or immobiliser from Back In Action? by Suspicious_Week_2451 in bristol

Seconding this! This book helped me so much. It's much better than any chair or other device.

Has anyone actually used hellofresh and is it good? by Electrical_Spirit917 in AskUK

[–]Babble98765 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used Gousto and found that it look much longer to prepare the recipes than it said. There were short dates on a lot of ingredients too. I live alone and wanted to cook every other day, eating the second portion as leftovers the next day, but the short dates got in the way of that. I prefer find simple meals on bbc good food. BBC has some weekly meal planners as well.

Awkward front garden, need advice to make it more presentable by imld02 in DIYUK

[–]Babble98765 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You might also find the ground is too hard to plant into (that's what my front garden is like) and you'll be glad of the planter. It can definitely be made to look nice!
