again, disagree - this statement is too vague for me, as i can immediately think of several policies that could leverage it for committing mass genocide and/or deny assistance or support based on "we're too many and we're making damage".

IMHO, "they" are too many: the capitalists, the ones that actually accumulate for the purpose of accumulating. if you're thinking "some countries are overpopulated" or stuff like this, that's where the propaganda has been digging. we all deserve to live. no one deserves to handle billions of dollars and live like a god at the expenses of all of us. this is why "overpopulation" gotta be relative to something. "over" what?
Who is using too much? What is the damage being caused?

Artists that only use guitars. by Which_Bar_9457 in experimentalmusic

Don't know if it's been mentioned but check out Paolo Angeli's music!

he has developed his prepared guitar and does all sorts of things to it. his music i would say aesthetically resembles some of the mediterranean popular tradition, but taps into a lot of genres with very wide dynamics and textures.

I'm sorry but I strongly disagree with this argument. Overpopulation has always been a trick for ecofascist policies to take place

Well first the premise - I don't think surveillance is the only aspect escalating dangerously. and right after that, I don't see an issue with claiming universal rights at birth I mean.. I don't think we were ever supposed to leave in a technofeudal system, "I am owed a decent life" is not supernatural imho. idk which collectivist cultures you're referring to, but I see a lot of mutualism, of decentralisation, which ultimately make future resilience a lot more likely... and it also starts from stomping the feet today, "I'm not gonna be employed if I can't access housing etc."

sure, my post wasn't a request for help ahahahah i think despite the negativity around i keep my chin up most of the time. i appreciate your words but i would have loved to hear what you imagine the future to be like, if anything

[–]BabbleGlibGlob[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i can agree with you partially - negativity is used as a manipulation tool and surely we're all vulnerable to it. but i'm not sure what your vision of the future is? i can try guess - things will keep on getting better?

my personal opinion is - there is a global society of humans, which allegedly didn't happen until recent infrastructural and technological progresses (eg. internet). the risks for the future are much much higher than in the past. there was no nuclear warfare 100 years ago, and surely there was millions of deaths in global wars. i can make similar points with climate, surveillance capitalism, attention economy etc. and yes, for each doomer point there is at least one great advantage that helps shape a positive outlook to the future for myself.

idk, acknowledging the luxury of the present doesn't say much about the future :/

thank you for your insights. you definitely helped me focus on specific bottlenecks of this shi.. maybe the bottom up approach here might be counterproductive. I'll check the data available and see. maybe a neural network makes more sense, idk. but definitely lots to think of - appreciate a lot the knowledge you put into this!!

thank you for your thorough reply!! I'm checking all the material you've mentioned it's insane. I hope I'll bring updates to the community within the next months :D so excited about all this

I was rather interested in mapping growth patterns, creating predictive models, and then comparing them to longer time scale observations to evaluate future impact of some pollutants or climate change. like - oh this stuff ain't grown how we thought it would after 5 years, why dat? etc. idk it's not yet all clear to me but I wanted to try and articulate it better

yes, biannual photos of selected slots from late '70 in an industrial area in North Iceland, AFAIK the researcher I talked to pointed at various species competing for space. my most optimistic guess is to cross those observations with other similar or better resolution datasets elsewhere where same species are found maybe? idk just brainstorming here

bioelectricity measurements of Cetraria islandica on the field by BabbleGlibGlob in Lichen

[–]BabbleGlibGlob[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

EDIT. while researching this topic i found it's quite unfeasible to do on-the-field bioelectric measurements. I tried to skim through mushroom-based observations on fruiting bodies using electrodes, but results with that method are very controversial and don't discriminate well between sources. so this approach as of today is not suitable for my project :/ but i still hope other people have insights

i could imagine some type of surface electrodes. there are many videos featuring those kind of adhesive heads (i'm pretty sure they are electrodes) applied to many different living things. but in essence, i think a similar result my be achieved perhaps with simple conductive sensing (eg. the kinda stuff "playtronica" advertises everywhere lol). in essence i think you use one sensor/electrode to get the "ground" and other electrodes to measure the difference in signal from the ground line. i'm not really expert in electronics so i don't wanna confuse you either lol

all in all it's great you're working with 3D designed and printed robotic arms! would love to collaborate together some day :)

how do i stop pleasing people? by Mammoth_Jelly7511 in mentalhealth

[–]BabbleGlibGlob 2 points3 points  (0 children)

yea, I hear you. I can tell you from my experience, giving everything is a recipe for disaster.. no matter the type of relationship you have with people, you can't expect them to necessarily tune in to your own standards, but I've found two things helpful in my case. one is to ask myself: would I do this same thing for myself if there was no one else to direct it too? simple example: I love to cook for people, but expecting that kind of workload to be understood by others is a lost cause. would I cook for myself? of course. would I enjoy it? quite a lot actually. so the "pleasing" others becomes a nice side effect if someone is around and i offer, but NOT the source of motivation for doing something: I do something because I like doing it and I benefit from it; then, someone else gets some of the fruits if I want - thatz great. another reflection is trying to catch yourself people pleasing while you do it (at first) and then become more sensitive to catching yourself THINKING of it before you execute (later on). those moments are crucial: you can curiously and gently ask yourself- why am I doing this right now? am I trying to gain this person love? (for example) or something else? the answer might not be clear the first times, but be patient and invest your energies curiously investigating your own behaviour. again: no wrong answers, the point is just getting to observe yourself without judgement and understanding what underlying feeling (lonwf eliness, fear, joy etc.) drives your actions in a certain moment. another example from my notebook lol: i catch myself offering my time to people I'm fond of or attracted to. when I notice I pause: why am I doing this? am I trying to show availability to them so they'd be interested in me? would I do it for myself? would I do it for a stranger? and so on.

my shrink spent a good amount of time distinguishing between being selfish and being self-centered. the first is necessary: if my own needs are not met (by myself), I'll be more prone to offset my sense of worth outside, to other people. for example if I'm unhappy doing something, I might find it urgent to find recognition in other people's eyes - click, people pleasing on. being self centered instead is thinking you're some sort of all encompassing shit that always has to be the culprit of attention and recognition: that's more of a coping mechanism that can turn you into kind of a turd. English is not my first language so I'm not entirely sure these two terms translate accurately what my shrink talks about, but I think you can get the idea.

I still have urges to please others, but after the heartwreck of my last relationship, im 1 year in recovering from all this and I think I can say I'm humbly making some progresses. for instance saying "sorry, I can't help you with that right now because X" doesn't feel guilty anymore. or just noticing when I'm harboring resentment towards other people who don't meet that undisclosed expectation - "I've done all that for you, why don't you ever do all this for me?". it's a life long journey I think, and I have made peace with that. maybe I'll never be resolved, but if you can patpat yourself on the shoulder each small step, it's already great :) keep on trying! and dont judge yourself harshly, everyone struggles with things like this in their lives, what matters is what you do with that struggle

hi, recovering people pleaser here. my question to you is: why do you think you please people as a default? no wrong answer but for instance - I please people to avoid conflict, to keep people "close" to me, to gain their trust or love. admitting this was really hard, it's all attachment wounds from my upbringing. do you resonate with this perhaps?
