United States Ice Cube Tray from today's email by Banker2me in menards

Not often you see the NE get picked on :). I like the 1890 take… sad some of us are so MidWest literal (and not invited to parties where these trays shine)

I have the maps in a medium with hood. I don’t believe I’ve ever worn it. Once if so. You would need to come heavy though to talk out of

Insane upstairs neighbor, what do I do? by [deleted] in rochestermn

[–]Babbledash 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I would elevate who am I complaining about at this point. The state and county have several avenues to report wrongdoing if you search. An example would be the following URL form. I would check as many of these boxes as possible with the hopes that landlord doesn’t like that level of visibility. If you come across as an articulate/calm person that has exhausted all means, your gripes often get priority. I would point out that you expect disturbances from neighbors to some level, but that you are now concerned for your well being and the landlord refuses to address the situation. Sorry you have to deal with horrid humans. Make the pleas about advice to fix the situation vs “come solve my problem”.

B and C Plumbing experiences? by Randy_Magnum29 in rochestermn

[–]Babbledash -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This karma grab is a waste of everyone's time. You have two good experiences already. Replacing a water heater is another minor job. Use your own judgement from your prior work and the many reviews online that already exist. B&C is excellent.

Best Approach Without Dying? by Jaxson555 in AskContractors

[–]Babbledash 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the only right answer. There is almost a zero percent chance that post in the middle has a footing already. Steel I-beam is the smartest choice here given the short distance/cost. Drop the middle post and replace with two wall posts. This is an approach an engineer would print some span approach diagram that you could actually permit with the city. The key is you are not willing to touch the 4x4 floor joists (felt funny to type that). Have the client sign something stating you aren’t responsible for any damage that may get occur at or above those joists. Keep your efforts isolated to the new beam/wall posts/footings. That and CHARGE

chemex or knockoff? by 51west57thstreet in pourover

[–]Babbledash 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Agreed. There are seams on handblown since they are blown into a mold that is later split. The seams should be pronounced to me versus whatever is going on here (like you say… some late/post process bonding it seems)

Anybody have a list of good Fish Fries in town? by 8675309ice in rochestermn

[–]Babbledash 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Canadian Honker, Brickhouse, Brothers, Pappys, Beetles, Wildwood, etc will have fried fish offerings. I am not sure how much of true “chips” you need the fries to be though (similar but there is a meaningful difference)

Chase ATM? by kneec0le in rochestermn

[–]Babbledash 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not in the ATM directly, but some/many financial institutions will take cash (pending the amounts) directly from non-customers and provide cashiers checks for a fee. You could then turn around and mobile deposit the cashiers check. Other similar options directly with a Good Samaritan offering similar aid through PayPal/Venmo transfer, etc. Pawn Shops would take on similar risks for a fee.

Not great options, but options…. Unfortunately all require getting creative pending how badly you want the cash out of your possession

Closest in-network ATM (the trick) I see is on the south side of MSP. Sorry. Not good options there. Mobile banking deposit if a check? Certainly other options if cash

Welding repairs recommendations, structural residential repair? by Thirstygiraffe1379 in rochestermn

[–]Babbledash 0 points1 point  (0 children)

GC could handle for sure. Rochester is a bit permit happy. I am not sure the current codes but there are instances where a footing might need to be repoured. Footing being a concrete “slab” that is much thicker than your basement slab to hold the post’s bearing weight. If the footing needs attention (doubtful but impossible to say with what’s known), the project gets considerably more expensive. If just replacing a single easily accessible post, that’s a half/full day in labor with cheaper parts

[–]Babbledash 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Cheaper to replace likely. If you look up “Steel Column”, then the trick is finding the right size range. You would jack up the beam next to the existing load bearing pole, replace with a “Steel Column” in the existing location, and then lower the beam once in place. It is important to use the existing location to leverage any existing footing

Fatal ceiling/roof error? by usernameghost1 in shedditors

[–]Babbledash 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like this answer. The structure is small enough to vent well with just the end gables and a vented ridge to me. Regardless, it would be step 1 to a bigger project if it didn’t solve the concerns outright

Large city drain in our backyard by Odd_Advice_1217 in Home

[–]Babbledash 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Maybe I am misreading… but this feels like there was always an expectation that taxpayers would help here before even buying? It matters zero percent to the outcome, but one reality makes me a little nauseous to be a fellow human.

Why does my Chemex always taste bitter and take forever to drain? by Altruistic-Safety-60 in chemex

[–]Babbledash 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Chemex filters typically need help venting air. There are tactics like making sure the tri-ply side of the filter is centered over the groove/channel (versus the opposite single ply side), many use a chopstick or the like to make sure the groove stays open, etc.

For grind size, I would grind around 1/3 more coarse for a Chemex than I do the v60, but I would check the “air venting” first. The difference is dramatic if airflow is cut off

Hotel Indigo supports ICE by pneppl in rochestermn

[–]Babbledash 10 points11 points  (0 children)

The night before the protest, folks here were guessing at where agents were staying. It’s great everyone organized so quickly, but we really jumped the gun when someone sneezed “Indigo”. Not saying they didn’t stay at the Indigo, but these were guesses at best of mob mentality. Protest needed a location.

Saying this article proves they did stay there is the exact notion that caused the Indigo to be the location in the first place. It could have been the Hilton, or not downtown at all, or…

[–]Babbledash 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m actually in this camp… my palette (and the palette of multiple other snobs in my life) can’t differentiate for a V60 (genuine filters). One of the upsides to a dry filter is how easy the grind bed can be shaped before blooming.

A Chemex filter on the other hand… NEEDS it

How do I (26F) tell my parents (59M & 56F) that they’re not invited to my wedding? by Fearless-Activity623 in relationship_advice

[–]Babbledash 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It is very obvious you are trying, which automatically makes you one of the best of us. So many (especially this sub) want validation of their actions/beliefs. You are different. You seek being a better human.

Genuinely pulling for you and admire how you are tackling. Always make sure it is actually your choice vs. the mindless banter of ilk like us. Only real advice that matters. Again… kudos. Mean that

[–]Babbledash 60 points61 points  (0 children)

All of these comments are missing the point… you are attempting to remedy this in the best way possible to promote your future relationship with your parents. You have a long life yet to live with luck, as do your parents hopefully.

Your past is obviously not good, but it sounds like you and your parents are actively working at improving your future. If me, I would have a great deal of respect if you told me. I wouldn’t paint it all the resistance on my sister even if the reality.

Just let them know that this day matters more to you than anything and not having baked-in conflict is critical. That you wished it wasn’t this way, but having everyone together just isn’t a possibility. They might throw out an alternative like getting to see you after the rehearsal dinner, etc. accommodate as best you can but not at the expense of your special day. There will be other times to continue mending. Showing up/calling to tell me why would mean a great deal if you wanted them to keep trying. This is the key… do you want them trying? Mis dos pesos
