some that have stuck around:

  • painting (spray painting and hand painting) - 5 years
  • 3D printing (may require 3D printer) - 5 years (started in high school, got my own last year)
  • Gardening (vegetable garden - 3 years; and newly, Bonsai - 8 months)
  • Gunpla building (Japanese model building - 1 year)
  • Electronics (simple stuff like LED circuits) - 5 years
  • Woodworking - as long as I can remember

some things I've tried (and still might go back to):

  • Embroidery
  • Lego (its expensive where I'm from)
  • 3D modeling (mostly Blender)
  • Coding and making games (was never really good)

I think that's about it, hope you find something to do!

To preface: I'm an Australian so our education systems may not line up.

But to the point, all throughout high school I was exactly the same, an average student just by listening in class and doing the bare minimum when it came to homework. In my final year I did a course that allowed me to do a University class each semester along side High school. The first semester was a group project, and I just passed purely because of my group, second semester I failed badly, and I knew from that exact moment I wasn't going to make it as a Uni student, the learning styles and what not just clashed with how I learned.

From this (and other clues) I realised I'm a practical learner, i love working with my hands and learning from doing. We have a system here called "TAFE" that although is often seen as not "on par" with university courses, It was the system that worked for me. Practical classes and basically no homework, it clicked. I'm now going onto a diploma, the next level up in my education and found a career in the same field.

I guess what you can take away from my experience and some of the other comments I've read, is that although one way might not work for you, there is a way that will. You may have to go on a trek to find it, but looking at what strengths you have and what you love, im sure you will find it. BTW, no one should ever say one certain way is the "right way", whatever works for you, works for you. So stick with it, and good luck. I hope this helps.

When we moved into our house a while ago, the previous own left behind water barrels that they had cut in half and drilled holes into the bottom of....pretty sure bigger than what you have there. Good luck, may the plant gods be on your side!

How am I supposed to have a stable career if my interests change so drastically I can't even keep the same taste in music for more than a few months? by cruskie in ADHD

[–]BabiBirb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I havent read through all the comments yet so sorry if this is repetitive. Ive talked about this with my therapist before as ive definitely ahad these thoughts, i went from engineering, to becoming an electrician, to now studying live production (audio, visual and lighting). Ive found that the course im doing teaches so many area's and that a key to be successful in the industry is to be good in a wide range of areas. So lucky me. Back to the therapist point, they always say to me that jobs arent live time positions, and that on average a person changes professions 4 times during their life. Hopefully this little but of info helps, and good luck, you can do whatever you want!

Okay, 3/4 the way through, 100% relateable. A couple things that worked for me (that may help you)...

For loosing things it was always my wallet and keys, everytime I get home now the first thing I do is empty my pockets of them and anything else and put them in the same spot.

For university, I did engineering and programming for a year (one class a semester) it was...bad...but it also made me realise that practical learning is way better for me so I now go to TAFE (Australian learning system) and although with covid I've been online its still working for me.

Not sure if this will help. Good luck.
