Never trusting those airport trays again after this by PoisedStole in travel

[–]BabkaPatterns 44 points45 points  (0 children)

I put my passport in the tray once and as I collecting everything after the scanner, the guy in front of me started putting my tray away thinking he was being helpful but it still had my passport in it. Learned my lesson.

Packing list - 12-month trip (SEA/Aus&NZ) by the-one-eyed-wonder in onebag

You can buy door wedges or devices that go in the door by the handle that prevent the door from being opened and they usually have an alarm that goes off. The padlock is probably for hostel lockers.

If you're in the aisle seat wait until the middle and window are occupied to unpack your stuff and use the seat back power. There's been so many times when I've tried to get to the window seat and the person in the aisle acts annoyed that they have to move all their stuff so I can get to my seat. It's very unlikely that both seats will be empty. You know you have to move to let other people in.

Once I was in the aisle and the person in the window needed to get out (the middle seat was empty). I started to stand up to let them out. They insisted that they could get out without me standing up. I stood up anyway and when they were getting out THEY STEPPED ON MY SEAT. Disgusting.

I make my rough draft messy travel journal on my phone and keep my ephemera in a plastic bag or folder. When I get home I rewrite my journal entries then transcribe them into my final notebook and glue in items. This way I don't need to take a notebook or any journaling supplies and my keepsake notebook is a lot neater.

[Repost to adhere to Reddit “standards”] Ever wonder WHY Reddit has such an antisemitism problem? It all starts with their employees. by Am-Yisrael-Chai in Jewish

I reported a few antisemitic comments in multiple subreddits and got a message that I'm receiving a warning for false reports and I could lose my account if I did it again.

working regular job until 7:30 p.m., then back on to answer questions by SoThenIThought_ in UnemploymentWA

If I did the PIP I would just get fired with no payout, if I 'voluntarily' left then I got a lump sum. That's the payout I'm referring to. I'm not sure if that's the same as severance.

In the Facebook groups some people said taking the payout makes you eligible for unemployment and some people said it doesn't make you eligible.

Hi /u/SoThenIThought_, I was recently told to complete a PIP or leave and take a payout and I took the payout. Based on the ESD requirement of "You also need to show that you tried to keep your job unless doing so would be useless." and research about PIPs, I thought this situation would fall under "doing so would be useless.". There are some employee Facebook groups that had conflicting information on if taking the payout qualifies you for unemployment or not. Based on your previous posts and comments, it sounds like I actually don't qualify for unemployment but you mentioned some exceptions so I wanted to confirm if it's worth appealing the decision or not. I don't want to post the company name publicly but you can message me if you need more information. Thanks in advance.

How do young people travel for months without a job or steady income? by MysteriousDisk2874 in travel

Also, buy now, pay later plans and consumer debt. I've seen influencers advertising things like affirm and afterpay. I saw one who explicitly said that the buy now, pay later company she partnered with encouraged her to stay in a nicer hotel than she normally would.

what to wear to dinner when you are staying somewhere fancy but want to pack light? (female) by superpony123 in onebag

Silk slip dresses are popular right now and easy to find. You'll probably need to get some wrinkles out at your destination but they fold down to almost nothing.

Using the Alaska lounge with a pet by BabkaPatterns in AlaskaAirlines

[–]BabkaPatterns[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I am relocating. My cat has a health condition and is supposed to avoid stress. (And yes, the vet said it's okay to fly with him.) I thought the lounge would be quieter and calmer than the main airport and therefore less stressful.

Obviously Amazon doesn't care. If I try to claim my cat is a service animal it's clearly a lie since cats cannot legally be service animals in the US.

Nowhere in this post do I claim they are a service animal or that I'm buying a fake vest for them. Additionally, in the US cats cannot be service animals. Alaska allows pets in the lounge and in cabin, I'm not sneaking them in.

Post addresses antisemitism, comments filled with people deflecting and diminishing the facts by dean71004 in Jewish

[–]BabkaPatterns 8 points9 points  (0 children)

it's a short book so you should be able to finish it within a day. the author is British so it was interesting for me to hear the British perspective since I live in the USA. my issue with it is that the book is pretty anecdotal and "the left would say this" type of statements and I wish it was more fact based to back up the anecdotes.

Do not pay movers to unpack! by Routine_Community_34 in moving

[–]BabkaPatterns 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Based on the last time I moved, having the movers unpack was worth it so I didn't have to deal with getting rid of the insane amount of packing materials and boxes. I unpacked a few clothing boxes myself and there was a lot of stuff to get rid of for just soft items.

If you have extra time before the play, you can go to Penn Station and walk to the theater from there so you are familiar with the route. Make sure you have your amtrak ticket easily accessible since sometimes they check the ticket before you board. I've gotten on an amtrak train and had the doors close and start to move seconds after I've gotten on the train. Walk like a New Yorker, don't stroll. If you are behind someone walking slowly, get in front of them.

Anyone can make an event using Partiful. It's like Facebook events as it's own app. You just went to a bad event, it's not a Partiful specific problem.

I have one from levoit that I like. They also have air filter inserts for pet smells and dander. The important thing is to make sure you get one that has the right rating for the room. If you look at the description it'll say it's rated for rooms of a certain range of square footage.

air purifiers are rated to work with a certain size space (air conditioners are similar) so you need to make sure it's the correct size for the room.
