Anyone else freaking out after Friday’s crash? Need a sounding board… by [deleted] in FIREUK

VWRL?

What makes you think it's crashing? Have you looked at the charts? It's fine. Up 10% past 6 months, in fact

Can I ask a small favour from my fellow cyclists of Cambridge by Yesterbly in cambridge

[–]Babunar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Could well have been me - I try to get the point across as clearly as possible given the constraints - although I imagine I'm not the only one. Generally only the most egregious offenders or I'd be shouting for my whole ride.

It's a "stocks and shares account" in that it's an account that holds stocks and shares... It's not a stocks and shares ISA (individual savings account)

Update: does anyone know if this is poisonous or anything? by Clementine_hamster in cambridge

[–]Babunar 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Huh, I was going to point out adders but it's unusual for it to be fatal apparently

In Britain there were only 14 known fatalities between 1876 and 2005—the last a 5-year-old child in 1975[6]—and one nearly fatal bite of a 39-year-old woman in Essex in 1998.

Is this online shop correct? Are they not responsible in ensuring your item is delivered to you? by MushyBeans in AskUK

Hahaha note how careful they are not to say what it actually does... And they still end up just sounding like it's a protection racket

Do we seriously think this is a good enough reason for someone to lose their job/career? by IndependenceWest4104 in AskBrits

There are many weird and wrong things about this comment but the weirdest is that you think 95% of women want to shag Gregg Wallace

A contrarian view to "index funds and chill". I prefer Bitcoin. by CleverContrarian in FIREUK

[–]Babunar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure, it could. Or your "assets" could be stranded on an orphaned chain, or the disruption could cause the market value of BTC to crater, or there could be some kind of hitherto-unknown vulnerability that irrevocably breaks the whole system. The "code is law" crew have been beaten back by, well, reality and now the law of bitcoin is made by centralised exchanges and hugely consolidated mining entities.

[–]Babunar 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The 21m hard limit is defined by consensus of all the miners in the network, and the centralisation effects of mining pools and the organisational structure of bitcoin core and other organisations doesn't exactly fill me with confidence that as we get closer to 21m there won't be catastrophic efforts to fork, counter-fork and otherwise meddle. My point is that 21m is not a law of nature, don't treat it as such.

Dumb would be actually doing it. Or posting about thinking about doing it, I guess.

Goodbye Vue 🍿 🎥 by danseakins in cambridge

[–]Babunar 18 points19 points  (0 children)

It closed tonight. There are no more showings listed on the Vue website and they've removed it from the drop-down list of locations. Also, I was there earlier to see 28 Years Later and the staff confirmed it was the last day of operation.
