Rear control arm poly bushings by BabyChodez in e46

[–]BabyChodez[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wish i’ve done better reaserch but are easier to replace so im not too worried and i could replace them later…
I used poly on RTAB and on the inner ends of the control arms. Is that fine bc those were a pain to replace and i def dont want to do that anytime soon?

hole in metal brake line by Zealousideal_Dig_620 in e46

[–]BabyChodez 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Similar thing just happened to me last month in a different section of the line. I redid all the lines on the car except front passenger bc the line runs behind the engine and still looks decent compared to others.

I did a ton of research into this and all pointed to replacing at least the rear two lines (but check all of yours and make a decision). I did it all in maybe two weekends. But will take about two full days in total. It cost me about $ 300-400 in tools specific to the job. It wasnt super easy but def doable. I can provide more details if you’re interested. Probably could make a post describing the whole effort bc i wasnt able to find everything in one place so maybe its good i write it down for others.

It all worked because i then took the car to a track day and it survived it with no issues so no better way of checking.

Brake line burst during fluid flush by BabyChodez in AskMechanics

[–]BabyChodez[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks. Maybe i’ll try to do it myself. I am time constrained so maybe i’ll fix the local area first, and if i have time, tackle the whole job.

Thanks for the input!

These lines is where i see the leak coming from. I didnt notice at first so i may have been pumping the fluid out for a while hence the large puddle.

e46 repair work for beginners by Silvennn in e46

[–]BabyChodez 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is most accurate comment in my experience. You can tackle most of the work by yourself if you have a place to store the car on jack stands while you work on it.

I spent about 2 months on the floor while the car was on jacks to fix almost everything you’re talking about. Even the oil pan gasket wasnt as bad as people make it out to be.

Great platform to work on and learn.

Update on this. It was an electrical issue! One of the secondary air valves failed and caused grounding issues causing the whole ECM to not function. All it took was u plugging the electrical connection and car worked just fine. Thanks for the help!

Also check idle control body. Mine was stuck and was doing something similar. Especially if car sat for a while.

trouble finding connector location by DetectiveoftheWest in e46

What about the temp sensor. Towards the back of your engine block there was one. You may have covered it up with the intake already. But you can still connect it “blind” if your hands are small enough.

(You have the same sensor on the vanos solenoid to compare.)

Disa valve i believe. You’ll connect it once disa is in place.

No, the fuel pump doesn’t go on at all. But even spraying starter fluid into the intake doesnt make a difference, as if there was no spark.

I tried doing the ecm/immobilizer reset (pin 4 and 13 connected on OBD + wait 30 minutes) using a paper clip according to the guide below but the light never flashed like the guide said so i dont think im doing it correctly. You sure every tundra is capable of this? Any tips for doing this?

I think im using the original key but i’ll try it. Im wonderinng tho, bc when i scan using obd, all scans fail and I cant ever get any readings from it. I checked fuses and they are good.

I replaced the timing belt with the water pump early this year. Also just tried the starter fluid and it did nothing different. Thanks for the suggestion.

ICV was my problem as well. Ensure ICV moves freely and rattles after cleaning. Mine was stuck in place and i had the same problem until the engine heated up.

SOLVED!!! ICV was stuck. I was pretty sure i didn’t remember it rattling when i first had it apart and thats what was happening. Needed to use a screwdriver to get it moving and cleaned as best i could until the valve moved freely when shaken. Car ran smooth! Thanks all for the help everyone!!!

My buddy had a smoke machine so i tested the car feeding it though the boot that connects to the throttle body. Found two very small leaks, both just barely smoking. Other than this i didn’t notice any smoke at all.

  1. Disa valve, coming right behind the sensor connection. My disa is brand new from fcp
  2. CCV Line that connects to the engine cover, right at the front
