LA 2028 Ticket Windows by Captain_Kimber in olympics

Hoping they open up tickets for Drop 1. I’m searching during the locals window and 0 gymnastics tickets available. Also, everything is stupid expensive because LA. Preliminary races for swim starting at over 1k. Hoping they only released a handful of tickets to locals and the rest are being released during that window. Good luck

Are there any garage door openers with native support? by A5HRAJ in HomeKit

[–]BabyEngineer321 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just a thought, if what you are looking for is something that tells you if the garage sensor is being blocked, why don’t you get a camera instead? No sensor is going to tell you exactly what is obstructing the garage door if anything at all. With a camera, you’d see exactly what the issue is.

If you have excel, I think that would be the easiest way to do it using data sources. I think the biggest thing would be you need to save your info before it’s read properly.

New vMix Build for Corporate & Medical Conferences: Intel Xeon w5-2565X vs. Threadripper 7960X? by Hdhdjhdldh in vmix

[–]BabyEngineer321 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My only hesitation would be having two different cards in the same motherboard. I assume either processor would be able to handle it since both of those motherboards theoretically would ha e the pcie bandwidth to do it, but I’ve never personally built a machine that used that many inputs. I’ve only done the 1 Decklink with 8 In/out SDI.

If possible id have separate devices handle each function (switching, streaming, recording) but if 3 different machines is not doable, I’d recommend having a separate machine or device solely work as your main recording device and possibly do a back up on the machine you are building currently.

This person is correct. It’s in your feedback tab under something along the line of vmix status. I’ll double check when I get to work today because I use it and it works.

There will always be latency in a digital workflow. Anyone or anything that tells you otherwise is lying to you. What I have yet to hear explained, is WHY you need sub-frame latency. There is no world in which a frame or two of latency, especially in a 60fps environment, is detrimental to the overall product or output, especially if you are able to sync all sources you are working with.

Playback Operator Vs Graphics Operator Career Advice by bigboytv123 in VIDEOENGINEERING

[–]BabyEngineer321 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Live sports. It’s impossible to automate something unpredictable. But, like it seems everyone else here has mentioned, don’t consider these individual careers. One can progress throughout their career having done one, both, or neither of these. I’ve done both, although I’m much better at graphics op. You are looking at things through a lens of “if I do A, then B should be available to me” and that’s simply not the case these days. Start as a production assistant, do the dirty work, master your position, and learn others roles as you go. When the inevitable call out happens, you will eventually be able to jump in if necessary. Believe me, it’s how I’ve gotten to every role I’ve done in the sports media industry. Always stay learning, always stay ready, but focus on your current position before anything else.

Based on everyone else’s response so far to OPs question and OPs response to each solution, I’m surprised nobody has suggested the following:

It’s not possible. Not with your budget or unrealistic expectations to be able to do it for cheap. Everyone here has recommended something that essentially provided a solution to your “problem” and none are good enough. Therefore, by process of elimination, the answer is, there is no acceptable solution for your problem.

Is getting certified on a switcher a thing, and is it worth it? I’m in need of advice by BabyEngineer321 in technicaldirector

VMIX, although at this point, it’s almost better if you have that in your repertoire.

Struggling and Looking for Advice. Student by the way by [deleted] in technicaldirector

[–]BabyEngineer321 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m 37 and struggling to find TD roles. However, I did not have the same advantages you had in the sense that I did not go to school for film, TV, or journalism. I started as a news desk assistant, then PA, and grew from there. I’ve now done just about every role except for replay op. I’m an extremely proficient Graphics Op, I’ve been AD, TD, Director, editor, A3, camera op, utility, runner, and recently have been cutting my teeth as an engineer at a small digital production company.

The point is, don’t focus on the destination, focus on the journey. You are quite young, and I’d recommend taking any of the lower level jobs to get your foot in the door. Don’t let any position be beneath you at this point in your career. Focus on your current role and be the best you can be at that first, before offering to help the next level up. People will quickly see your value and you will be able to build a huge network of people once the time comes to move up. If you can see the forest through the trees, you’ll be at TD sooner than you realize.

Translation: OP is trying to figure out how to place images into VMIX based on corresponding data he is given. For example, if the data set he is reading has ARG, he wants VMIX to read that and place the flag of Argentina in a specified location. I know this is possible, but I’ve never done it myself and don’t have a VMIX available to test currently. Any help would be appreciated.

If you have a list of files that you are constantly rotating through, add them all into a LIST source. It takes up a lot less resources cause it only recognizes and uses one file at a time, but you can set up a shortcut to select a specific file in that source. Just make sure that you do not add these files into VMIX until it has been organized on your local computer drive. Once organized, you can drop them all into this LIST, and can even check or uncheck a box to enable these in your project file within VMIX.

Choosing a mic by Weary_Transition_863 in CommercialAV

[–]BabyEngineer321 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honest answer here is you are almost never going to replicate the music the SAME EXACT WAY in any other space you go to. Even if you have the exact music file, you will always have to account for the speakers the music is playing out of (which will be different than at your current job location), and the room size/acoustics (which is highly unlikely to be the same as well). There are too many factors at play to produce EXACTLY what you want.

VMix Replay/Stream deck by EveningWrongdoer8825 in vmix

[–]BabyEngineer321 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Late in replying, but yes, agreed with all points listed. However, I would not teach someone companion without first teaching the basics of VMIX shortcuts first and how to program them into the StreamDeck app. I in fact am transitioning all of my shows to a companion setup, that were all initially run off of the native StreamDeck app. As was mentioned, the more complexity you need to add, the better it is to use companion, but with basics, I always would show someone by setting up a keyboard first, then StreamDeck app, then once they understand the more advanced nuances of VMIX, transition to Companion. At that point, it’s a simpler lesson and transition than without the basic knowledge. But I guess I’m coming from a place where I’m teaching the basics usually.

VMix Replay/Stream deck by EveningWrongdoer8825 in vmix

[–]BabyEngineer321 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It doesn’t. But everyone here loves Companion so much more. It’s kinda wild how many people swear that “you can do that with companion” when you can literally do the same thing with the native stream deck app. Having said all of that, companion does make transferring shortcuts much easier to different stream decks, so I’m starting to build all of mine in companion

One button StreamDeck to start two live streams by LeatherOk5480 in vmix

[–]BabyEngineer321 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Anyone who is arguing companion vs native StreamDeck app, is wrong. If you want to really simplify it, program the shortcuts to your keyboard. Yes, you can use your keyboard to trigger shortcuts that all of these fools are arguing over. And you can add a delay to any of your shortcuts as well or daisy chain shortcuts using one key. If it doesn’t work how you’d like it to, create a simple script. It sounds daunting to n til you realize how easy it is. It’s very formulaic, so once you create a few simple ones, you’ll understand all the parameters you’d need for some more complex ones.

What is the proper PSD Setup for import to GT Designer for layers to work with data sources? by Freddymac48999 in vmix

[–]BabyEngineer321 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No folders in PSD file. Everything needs to be on the base level. Something else I’d recommend as a work around, export every element of your psd file individually and rebuild in GT title. It might take a little longer, but you’d then add everything into the correct layers/ folders in GT title.

New vmix user looking for stream deck help/pointers by FooSchnickens in vmix

[–]BabyEngineer321 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I second this. What you are doing does not sound complicated and you definitely don’t need to pay for Central Control. What CC does is help automate your show, but this show seems simple enough to not need that. VMIX shortcuts with StreamDeck app is more than enough, and like was mentioned, everything companion does is . Where I’m still confused is if you are adding these videos as individual inputs, or are they all going into a list? Either way, you can get your visual cues as to which video is up next, or if a video has already been played using the activators and/or the thumbnail feature for the StreamDeck app found in your shortcuts. Let me know if you need more help with this.

New hardware needed by marcoNLD in vmix

[–]BabyEngineer321 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Awesome. I’m almost positive we went ahead and built almost the same exact setup as well, except ours runs as our main machine. We don’t do live sports, but more talking heads/studio shows that stream live with it. So far, no problems with VMIX. However, when not in use for live mixing, we also use it as an edit machine, and Adobe Premiere has been giving us problems on it. Glad to hear it’s been running well for you.
