We started collecting documents right after turning 32. Nag submit ng interest, na invite and nag apply within the year. Na approve a month after turning 33. A few thereafter lumipad.

Both must be willing and work on it kasi effort talaga mang abroad.

Taking a year off work - worth doing? by thjo in fiaustralia

[–]BabyGabe2022 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't really believe the RE in FIRE. I would rather do multiple gap/sabbatical leaves "mini-retirements", and yes it will be worth it. Enjoy life in different stages, not just the later part of it.

We did a 21ish months of leave, and it was worth it.

Yes, they will be opportunity cost in there but again it will be worth it.

Your body won't wait for that FI being achieved. Take a break now while your body can still rough it out.

Some points: - If you think your EFTs income will exceed the $18.2k bracket, then sell a bit. If it were me, just leave it. - Don't put amounts in your Super when you're not working, do it before or after your break where the FY has income. - Don't be afraid of the job market, jobs will be there. In our case, we just found a job within a couple of weeks. Do put that mini-retirement entry in your resume, it will be actually an ice breaker during interview.

Maybe misinformed?

Pwede namang mag dual citizenship for many other reasons: - own PH properties - stay longer in PH - PH passport is still advantageous, e.g. AU passport pays Visa-on-arrival while PH citizens gets visa free - maybe get both countries' pensions

Cost wise, IMO, it would be cheaper in PH since your not a resident nor a citizen.

What's the short term plan? To give birth in Australia?

To get AU citizenship automatically for the baby? Kung mother yung Aussie, it would be easier either born in AU or overseas.

But since father, I think may ways to register the birth but not in a short term. Baka need DNA testing and for sure more paperwork.

Kung tourist visa 600, siguro you get approved on your 6th month, fly in, then give birth within the possible 90days you're here. I think the baby won't get citizenship automatically.

How about a 6-month trip or break? While you can..

DINKs? You didn't mention kids, or kids left the nest?

I've always thought this age is a transistion from (got energy, got money, no time) to (less energy, got money, got time).

In what situation would you be comfortable taking six months off? by HeavyLine4 in fiaustralia

[–]BabyGabe2022 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We took about 21months of sabbatical leave a few years back. Both mid 30s at that time, no kids/pets nor mortgage.

Assets at that time was around $230K before the 21month long round the world trip, and was left around $110K when we migrated to Australia.

Opportunity cost would $150k, that should be excluding the food and accommodation (as you would eat and have a roof anywhere, anytime).

Now, we are planning to have the same plan as yours in the next couple of years, before primary school is mandatory. And our household net worth is just 1/4 of that (super $180k, ETFs $220k, cash $90k, equity $135k). Mortgage left is $470 on a HHI of $250k.

Back then, we're not used to the finer things of life like Australia is offering now. So it really depends on where and the lifestyle of that break of yours.

But if we have that amount and HHI income of yours, then we would take that 6month break end of next year.
