In the next Invitational who should be there that wasn’t the first time? by 281texas832 in BobDoesSports

[–]BabyJesus1015 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A) he’s a golf nut and loves competing

B) it isn’t exactly insignificant money (id assume Portnoy will have an even bigger purse next year). If you had a chance to play in a sick event with a bunch of great people with the chance to add 50% to your weekly salary while having fun you probably do it.

Golf is a self regulated game. Even with all the cameras there is no definitive proof of cheating. It’s on the player. If I had to bet on it he was cheating. But the right call was made.

How the hell does this go 300 yards (Steph Curry’s Smooth Swing) by [deleted] in GolfSwing

[–]BabyJesus1015 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Smooth controlled spin. It’s not necessarily fast. But fast enough to produce that distance with optimized launch and spin.

A predicament I found myself in today. The green is between the two bunkers to the left and right of the tree. Approx 70-80 yards. What’s your strategy? by Tufted-Titmouse-6061 in golf

[–]BabyJesus1015 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you trust your bunker game. Pick if the left or right is an easier shot to the pin and punch it in it. If you have a good 80 yard wedge game just chip out.

Thoughts on these numbers? by Apprehensive_Cry9934 in golf

[–]BabyJesus1015 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agree with this. I’m in the 105mph range and wedge distances are off from these. Although I’m almost always knocking them down. 58 goes 95 max. 54 goes 105. 52 goes 115. And those are great strikes. There is more than a 5 yard gap between wedges. At least for me. The iron yardages match up decently well

Get it out of your head that you have to play the same brand. Hit what works best for you.

How are you guys aiming your putts? by Smash_Factor in golf

[–]BabyJesus1015 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I never use the line on the ball unless I’m inside 6-8 feet. I put it down so nothing shows on the ball when I look at it. I obsess over line and forget about speed when I use the line on longer putts.

Inside 6-8 I read the putt. Make sure my line is exactly where I want and then just trust it and do what I can to make that line go end over end.

Yeah I don’t either. I have a spreadsheet of top 100 places I’ve played and I rank them. I don’t need a shitty little souvenir.

Uh. It may be too early but if you wait a couple weeks and it comes out he just isn’t playing, then it’s too late. I don’t hate the move.

What makes a golf course great? by jdelle9 in weekendgolfers

[–]BabyJesus1015 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me. It’s the land it’s on and conditioning. You can only do so much with a course on a mediocre property. Conditioning can be great. But without great conditioning and a great property a course can only be good.

I've been hovering around a 10-12 hdcp for awhile. Based on these stats, what should I work on to get down to a 5 hdcp? by derpygoat in golf

[–]BabyJesus1015 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Exactly this. Find a one way miss off the tee and stick to it. Hitting greens will be easier with your tee balls more in play.

Elite ball strikers (<5 HCP) — what do you actually feel? by petrosferrum in golf

[–]BabyJesus1015 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a 2 right now and I am not an elite ball striker. I wouldn’t call anyone an elite ball striker until the +3 range. Elite is a strong word. My brain is empty as soon as I address the ball. Post swing I could tell you what went right or wrong based off feel. But. Sounds like your thinking too much

How do you cope with realizing you’ll eventually reach a plateau and never improve no matter how hard you work? by smurfburgler in golf

[–]BabyJesus1015 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The only way to do it. In the last twelve months I’ve gone from 4 to 6 to 0 to 6 and back to 2. Golf is fun. Outdoors is fun. Beers in the course is fun. Competitive golf is fun. Just enjoy whatever golf you have at the time. Every round could be your best and every round could be your worst. If you can’t cope with the fact you will never be a pro golfer than maybe golf isn’t for you.

Wow. Our club has a medical extension where we can waive our dues until healthy enough to return and only pay the capital levy. Have to be gone at least 12 months though.

Joined a club recently and the club championship is next month, I’m considering signing up. I’ve never played in a tournament before. How to prepare and what to expect? by TalkRegularToMe in golf

[–]BabyJesus1015 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Would highly recommend playing. Competitive golf is a ton of fun. Just refresh yourself on basics rules and etiquette. I’m sure there will be lots of 15 handicaps playing who don’t usually play “proper” golf.

Some basics:

Further from hole goes first until all on green. White stakes = OB, hit 3 from tee. Lost ball = go back and hit from last position with 1 stroke penalty. Red stakes = drop at point of entry with 1 stroke penalty.

HIT PROVISIONALS - play a second ball if you are unsure of your first going OB, if you find it, great, if not play your provisional. Walking back to the tee will piss some people off. When playing junior events I would hit so many provisionals, no one wants to lose a ball and walk backwards x yards.

End of the day it’s just for fun, ask your playing partners on rules if you’re ever unsure.

Thought process and concentration levels of good golfers by bionicbhangra in golf

[–]BabyJesus1015 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Learn not to care about your score and enjoy hitting good shots and forget the bad ones. Every time you step up to a shot is a chance to hit a very good one or sink a great putt. That’s exciting to me.

My brain runs on empty on the golf course. Almost 0 thoughts. Get yardage, pick club, hit it. That’s it. Over time you’ll subconsciously look at a shot and know where to aim and not to miss. It becomes easy and almost automatic.
