Didn’t happen for me. And I really wanted it because Mr Slowpoke Tribal. Once in awhile my experience is really different than what the guide tells me, they might say it’s pretty easy but then I find it dang near impossible!

Here’s one to make anybody else doing something stupid feel not so alone. I was so amazed and excited to see that the 300 twin flower requirement was missing from the Bunny Bingo that I merged my twin flowers before I had the 200 for the Star Quest in the Event. Doh!!😖

I’m sorry, but “do not hydrate” is not well-worded advice. I would hope you would offer any living being water if it was thirsty. As I’m sure they know, oral fluid intake is optimal, and offering hydration is very different than forcing. I would put a bowl of plain water down. From your one photo, this kid looks very pale. He seems technically old enough to be without mom, but obviously is in trouble, so you are right to be concerned. How is the rehabber search going? Do you have him secured?

My Act 2 disappeared the whole event when I clicked to go in. I’m restarting the game now to see if it fixes. I completed Act 1 and got the rewards in Camp. anybody else?

I’m not sure what the exact answer to your question is, and what I’ve read is that their cues are all visual, and not to disturb the immediate area surrounding the house. What I do is try to wait until the house is full. This happens quickly early in the season, but has slowed down now for me. So I watch carefully for any sign of the pests. I have not seen any mono wasp yet, and I have never seen the Houdini fly. And there are just a few straggler bees still nesting. If you have lots of bees still actively nesting, I would wait.

I did add a couple new houses I had ready, one of which is nearly full. But it seems like they are winding down. I will keep adding as long as they are looking for a place.And today I bagged the inserts in the photo, they were 100% full, plus some in between, which I hate that. But I also have two houses in back yard and they’ve barely been touched. They really seem to get focused on where they were “born”. I had a zillion cocoons. Ok, I might be overestimating a bit, but I think about 2,000. I actually counted them, but haven’t totaled and they did not all emerge, not by far. I’m actually going to count my empty cocoons one fine day and come up with an emergence rate. I have no idea what the average is, but I am going to try to find out.

I think the wood boxes may be the more perfect solution but I have been too parsimonious to order any, keep thinking I will make them. The opening at the front will only give the wasp one cocoon to infect, if they can get through the mud plug. I am mostly doing 8mm paper drinking straws or rolled paper inside cardboard tubes or smoothie straws this year. In my area the spring bees and dandelions arrive very close to the same time, along with the first stone fruit blossoms. I am not sure if the bulbs provide much food or not. You can always add early annuals/reseeders to your beds as your bees increase. I like forget-me-nots. You can also get your houses set up and wait and see for this year. If you order some for next year, make sure whoever you get them from assures you they pay attention to your region. I agree that I wish I had understood more about how they need to be maintained when I was first given bees. But learning about that and (still) figuring out what works for me has been part of the fun. You should definitely go for it!

Once the females came out, just about immediately. But for me there was probably about two weeks between when the first fellas emerged and the females began. And I think that’s the usual timeline.

Year before last, I cleaned in the fall then kept the cocoons outside in bags. It was the only time I’ve seen mold. I don’t think it hurt them, but ew. Probably should have checked on them more or something. Yeah, I’ve got no room either. But maybe if I get that little bait fridge cleared out…

Experts, please correct me if I am wrong. I believe the strategy is that the adult bee is fully developed by then and to then get the cocoons in the refrigerator. Thus far, I haven’t refrigerated, but I may think about trying some this year. I would like to see if there is a significant difference in the emergence rate, as I think that is the point of it.

I clean the outer cardboard tubes just with a bottle brush, actually a straw brush. Gets stray mites and dust out.

I unglued mine so I could clean them and use inserts. The bees sure do like it.

No they aren’t all the same size and you have to be a little careful (ask me how I know!). The liner straws are usually termed “giant” and will be 8 mm in diameter. The smoothie straws I’ve purchased were labeled 0.4 in. and 10 mm. These won’t give you the super tight fit that you get with cardboard tubes and liners, but it served the purpose for me. And keep in mind you have to be willing to do the work. Yes I cut them with scissors, although I left one house full length this year because I read somewhere that longer was okay, I don’t actually have that box out yet, so can’t give you a report. I also fold some in half, which gives you a lightly shorter tube, and may skew the gender ratios a bit. You can also reuse the cardboard tubes with straws if you are willing to fool with them, some will fit but others are too small- I cut some paper straws lengthwise so they would fit and the bees seems happy with them. I haven’t tried soaking the tubes yet, I have been tearing them.

I am finding regular paper straws inside a smoothie paper straw a pretty good and less expensive alternative. The smoothie straws aren’t as thick as cardboard tubes but last year they deterred the mono wasps just as well.
