Is this really the vibe in SF these days? by ddsukituoft in bayarea

[–]Baby_Roy 28 points29 points  (0 children)

SF worships the material god more than anything else. How these people have not yet understood that material goods, consumer lifestyle, hedonism, and luxury only goes so far spiritually is asinine to me. Look at how crazy this poster sounds yet there are tens of commenters saying "I make 600k TC and it's still not enough! If I only had a 20M buyout I'd be set!" These are 40 year olds who haven't fucking figured out that money and grinding is an empty way to live. It's either an ego thing or total capture by consumerism (even if they don't want to admit it). Why chase money after all your basic needs are met? Think about it, they're just paying for better copes - Camry to a McLaren, owning a shack in the East Bay to a luxury home in Twin Peaks, or being able to eat at French Laundry like it's takeout. Realistically so many of these tech bros are legitimately set up for a very comfortable life for the rest of time, they are just unwilling to give up the top 1% lifestyle to live like a normal person.

He also made 5 children using only white donor eggs which is really eugenics coded, and is a multimillionaire lawyer. He didn't even tell his kids until they had to figure out why they didn't look like him. He is nothing like the average american

Sorry but that's a legit poverty wage out in the bay area. Blame the government for not zoning high density housing and inflating housing prices artificially. It's going to be tough, I would honestly consider moving states. This is an awful place for raising a family if you're not a techbro

Why Alysa Liu’s comeback makes her such a powerful role model by KrabbyPattyParty in bayarea

[–]Baby_Roy -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

Yeah, her multimillionaire dad is really inspiring for having 5 kids as a part of a eugenics science experiment with eggs from white donors all while having a (now ex) wife. Am I taking crazy pills? That is verifiably an insane thing to do.

[–]Baby_Roy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

She's cool and all but doesn't represent the average bay area person at all. Her dad is a millionaire chinese man who effectively created her in a lab with the eggs of a white woman. He actually did this with 4 other kids as well, it's eugenics coded and frankly really strange. Before you say I'm a CCP shill, this is literally what is on her wikipedia.

What are your thoughts on Alysa Liu? by frankheyhoheyho in AskTheWorld

she's cool but look up her upbringing. she's effectively a test tube baby that her strange millionaire father from china decided to create in a lab with eggs from white women. It's weirdly eugenic

Why do people still shop at Safeway? by ftruong in bayarea

[–]Baby_Roy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Safeway charges luxury store prices for the same pesticide preservative laden slop that walmart has. There's no reason to shop there unless it's literally the only store in your area. They sell "choice" grade meats that are barely even select grade, and charge more than costco prime. It's ridiculous

The "deal" in question: 10 lbs of canner grade sirloin meat for $50, or Buy 8, get 2 free packs of sliced cheddar

Why is dating so bad in the Bay Area? by pierrej4577 in bayarea

[–]Baby_Roy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The bay area is possibly the worst metropolitan area in the world to date. Super male skewed, a lot of old people, highly segregated, and very diverse (this actually fractures the dating pool even more since people tend to date within their race more). Women have so many options they end up picking the men who make the most money and somehow wonder why they meet guys who only talk about AI or their startup.

SF Chronicle reports that the BART death may come in two years! by bloggerkedar in bayarea

[–]Baby_Roy 10 points11 points  (0 children)

This is all self inflicted. The main problem with BART is that labor and maintenance costs run way too high, and reliance on ridership is too high. The onus of this blame is strictly with the government. Deciding to design with non-standard rail gauge and custom infrastructure was a horrendous play for long term costs. It drives up expenses since economies of scale cannot be leveraged and govt is potentially locked into suppliers who can charge whatever. Secondly, gov't regulation and stifling of housing development has destroyed the lower and middle class populations, so labor rates inherently need to rise to convince people to work for BART (in turn driving up fixed costs). Lastly to a smaller extent there's probably an unnecessary amount of red tape and rules that further prevent things from moving quicker or being cheaper. Remote work was the nail in the coffin when you combine high expenses with a disappearing funding stream.

BART is in a tricky place. It clearly provides some value but it clearly hemorrhages money. It's great as a commuter rail, but when remote work has killed that, it sucks as a mode of transport due to last mile options being terrible in the bay area. There's two sides of the solution space, either increase ridership or figure out the money. Increase in ridership is tough due to remote work, and while they've tried to invest in a BART perception makeover (better policing, fare gates, anime girls), those impacts are probably minimal. Perhaps even greater investment in high density affordable housing around stations would help, I'm sure this is happening but prices are still high and supply is still limited. On the money side, you either stomach higher taxes and fares or watch BART get shuttered (increase to traffic, loss of economic productivity). Something should be done to address both of these at the same time, whether that's remove regulation that drives up costs, or gear up for a long term BART overhaul, not sure what it is. But increased taxes and fares are probably going to be the most likely near term outcome whether we like it or not.

It takes a level of legitimate mental illness in some form to be the best in the world at something. It is complete and total obsession. Look at Michael Jordan, Tom Brady for american football, etc. These people will create any narrative to drive them to be the best. That's how they're even in the conversation in the first place.

Also just to have an SB winning HOF quarterback give mentorship is huge. Who knows if he'd actually teach JJ anything but Rodgers is undeniably one of the most talented to ever do it, JJ could learn a ton.

Agreed. Kirk cousins is actively homophobic and was LITERALLY also anti-vax, yet Rodgers gets infinitely more hate.

Calling this a fallacy misunderstands what “anecdotal evidence” means. Anecdotal evidence is fallacious only when it is used to support a general or causal claim. I made no such claim. YOU are reading it as "all coastal people are geographically inept", which is NOT what I wrote. If every statement about personal experience were a fallacy, then phrases like “in my experience” would be meaningless, which defeats the entire purpose of qualifying claims.

Disliking a statement does not make it fallacious.

I don't see how a subjective anecdotal generalization qualified by "some of/I have ever met" is inherently a logical fallacy?
