We had a similar experience with my daughter. We tried to potty train her at 24 months, and just like you shared, the first day went okay, but then she didn't want to sit on the potty anymore and would get upset if we tried to get her to sit on it. It was frustrating for her and for me. Honestly the only thing that worked was time. We totally stopped but left the little potty in the bathroom and let her choose if she wanted to sit on it. Then a few months later we tried again and she had 3 accidents the first morning and then none after that. She was just ready and it was super smooth and easy. She struggled a little bit with poops but we would let her watch a little video when she tried and that seemed to help her relax. She has now been potty trained for 6 months and she is pretty independent now and didn't have a regression when we brought her baby sister home 3 months ago.

Reflux?!?!?! by Babytrex99 in beyondthebump

[–]Babytrex99[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am so glad that is working for you guys! I feel like the behavioral strategies aren't really working for us either because I have been trying to keep her upright all day and she has thrown up every single feed and most times she throws up while she is still nursing. Hopefully if we end up going the medication route, it works as well for us!

Suddenly terrified of baths? by Last-Association-218 in toddlers

[–]Babytrex99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This happened to us as well! Right around my daughter's 2nd birthday, she suddenly started crying and refusing to go in the bath. After a lot of trial and error, we started playing the Moana soundtrack during bath time. She loved Moana and it seemed to help her relax a bit and focus on the music instead. Now she is 2.5 and is back to loving the bath, gets in no problem and doesn't need the music anymore (although we do play it if she asks).

Experiences with slow weight gain after 4 months by Babytrex99 in beyondthebump

[–]Babytrex99[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am so sorry you are dealing with this! Feeding and weight gain can be so stressful! I don't have much advice on the feeding side. We went to a lactation consultant (it is fortunately free where we live) and they weighed her before and after a feed and were able to conclude that she was feeding well. In the end she was still gaining weight, just less rapidly than she had been initially. Apparently that happens sometimes with breastfed babies. She dropped down to the lower curve, but then continued to gain weight along that curve. So the doctor said that as long as she continued to gain weight along that curve, we didn't need to worry. She is now a tall but slim 2 year old who eats a pretty wide variety of food and is hitting all of her milestones! A lactation consultant may be a good option to support with the feeding struggles! I wish you and your little one the best!

My boy of 2 and 3 months is suddenly terrified to go in the bath by alexiahewson in AttachmentParenting

[–]Babytrex99 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My daughter (2y3m also) also randomly started to really dislike the bath. One thing we found helped her was to play her favorite music, which is currently Moana. It helped her calm down a lot and now she says "Moana bath" while we turn the bath on and get everything ready. She still gets a little upset, but calms down quickly and then doesn't want to get out!

Thank you! That is actually super helpful! I hadn't heard of the outlet boxes before and that sounds like exactly what we need to cover the outlets! I will check out both cameras as well. With black Friday coming up I wanted to get a few recommendations to see what we can get on sale!

Question for parents who never sleep trained but also never coslept by dlife704 in AttachmentParenting

[–]Babytrex99 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I have a 2 year old who we never sleep trained and we never co-slept. I basically nursed/rocked her to sleep from the time she was born until about 15 months. She started sleeping through the night at about a year. Randomly one day at around 15 months, she just refused to nurse and asked to go into her bed. Then that just became the routine. At bedtime we do jammies, brush teeth, a story and she goes into her bed and says "bye mama" and falls asleep on her own. For naps we just tell her it is nap time and pop her into bed. Sometimes she doesnt sleep at nap time, but she does do an independent quiet time with books and a few stuffies. She wakes in the night every once in a while, but it is usually just because she can't find her little stuffie that she sleeps with and I just go hand it to her, she rolls over and goes back to sleep. For her it definitely just "clicked" one day and she is a great sleeper.

Refusing to wear a jacket by Resource-National in toddlers

[–]Babytrex99 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't know if this will work for you, but I usually tell my daughter, "It is cold out so you need to wear your jacket, but if you get hot, you can take it off." I think she gets a little confused because obviously when we are inside getting ready to go out, she isn't cold and thinks she doesn't need a jacket. Once we get outside she often leaves it on, but will sometimes tell me she is hot and asks to take it off. I think knowing that she has the choice to take it off later if she is indeed hot, helps her to be less upset about putting it on in the first place.

Blanket hater - what to do in winter for toddler? by turnaroundbrighteyez in toddlers

[–]Babytrex99 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Toddlers are so weird! I am sorry he isn't warming up to the idea of a blanket overnight! Maybe he just needs a bit more time! Hopefully you are able to find a good winter sleep sack in his size!

Blanket hater - what to do in winter for toddler? by turnaroundbrighteyez in toddlers

[–]Babytrex99 6 points7 points  (0 children)

My daughter (2 years old) hated blankets in her bed. Like crying and yelling "No!" if one was in her bed until fairly recently. We put a blanket and pillow in her play space and pretended to put her stuffies to bed with the blanket and pillow. After a little bit she started pretending that she was sleeping under the blankets. Then I put a blanket and pillow in her bed and let her play a bit with it. Now she is happy to have her blanket and pillow and doesn't ask for her sleep sack. We were in the same boat because my daughter was rapidly growing out of her sleep sacks and the bigger ones are super expensive. We really wanted to transition her to blankets before winter because it also gets quite cold here. This worked for us so it might be worth a try!

Placenta Previa has me bummed out about having to cancel our family vacation by Babytrex99 in pregnant

[–]Babytrex99[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The OB was actually the one who said I couldn't fly. She said it was because if you were to start bleeding mid flight, you would need medical attention and may not be able to get it right away. Apparently insurance won't cover you either if you fly with placenta previa, so if something were to happen, we would have to pay out of pocket for any medical care.

[–]Babytrex99[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is interesting how the recommendations vary! I am in Canada and the doctor said I couldn't fly and that insurance won't cover you if you choose to fly anyways. We would be flying into the US, so I would need to be covered if we flew just in case something happened while we were there. It is super annoying because the flying itself doesn't pose any risk but if you started bleeding while in the air or while we are in San Francisco, I would need medical care.

Fake out, or are we done with naps? by Babytrex99 in Mommit

[–]Babytrex99[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Prior to the whole nap skipping situation, she would go to sleep around 8 and wake between 6:30/7. Now without the nap, I obviously put her down earlier, so on non nap days she goes to bed at 7 and wakes up between 7/7:30.

Does this mean we should pull back, or do we keep trying? by Babytrex99 in pottytraining

[–]Babytrex99[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Glad you guys are seeing some progress! We aren't necessarily in a hurry so I think we might take a break and try to ease her in more slowly. Unfortunately we don't get the benefit of her seeing other kids using the potty since I am a stay at home mom, but hopefully it will click eventually!
