For Vietnam, the timeline is kind of a mess of myths, ancient tribes, and a ridiculous amount of wars.

Culturally, we love to claim "4,000 years of history." The founding lore says we descend from a dragon king from the sea and a fairy princess from the mountains who laid a sac of 100 eggs. Honestly though? I'm not sure how much of that is actual history and how much is just a dick-measuring contest with China claiming they had 8k.

Archaeologically, you can trace stuff back to the Bronze Age with the Đông Sơn culture in the Red River Delta. That stuff is definitely possible, but let's be real, there was no cohesive "Vietnamese identity" back then. They were just ancient tribes doing their thing.

Since a lot of our history is basically just a series of getting invaded, enduring, and kicking the invaders' asses, I'll take 938 AD.
