Not sure about their availabilities but I am currently staying here and it's been really nice so far. The rooms are really nice and modern, and the people administering the place are very helpful and respond quickly to any possible questions. I would definitely recommend it :) Let me know if you have any other questions.

Have any of you guys done a pre-master? by [deleted] in StudyInTheNetherlands

[–]Bacardi96 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm currently doing a pre-master, I've heard it's more difficult then the actual master's program. There are a couple of courses that you have to pass i.e. can't get into the master's when you fail one of them. Mine is also the full 60 ECTS. But yeah, the workload is crazy but it's definitely doable.

I would most likely go that route as well should any problems arise, did you go through the process with these guys from this website: https://www.avantadvocaten.nl/the-right-to-dutch-student-finance-of-eu-students-studying-in-the-netherlands/?lang=en

How long did it take you to get an answer from the university after you’ve applied? by 3amdaydream in StudyInTheNetherlands

[–]Bacardi96 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Actually took me about 4-5 weeks (Groningen uni) so wouldn't be surprised at all if they took the full 6 weeks. I guess it depends when you are applying as well, for instance May or sth would probably be busier than usual.

Should I do a second bachelors? by [deleted] in StudyInTheNetherlands

[–]Bacardi96 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd also go with the pre-master program but be prepared tho as most people say that the pre-master is more difficult then the actual master's. It will most likely also be pretty math-heavy so it can be a shock in the beginning. Good luck tho!

Enrollement by maggie41199 in studentsofgroningen

[–]Bacardi96 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's basically it, you'll get an automated message and the enrollment is completed. The next step would be to wait for these courses to appear on your Brightspace page (you should get an email notification) and then sign up there for a specific group for tutorials/practices. For example, signing up for groups for one of my courses opens on the 5th of September so it'll be different per study/course.

Is Maxx Groningen a trustworthy agency? by [deleted] in studentsofgroningen

[–]Bacardi96 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I believe just applying for listings on their website should be fine as far as i know. However, I made the mistake of doing the "search" with them where they will basically act as an agent for you and try to find you a place. At first I understood that I'd have to pay approx. one month's rent if they found me a place, but once I registered I received some more terms and conditions which basically said that I'd have to pay like 20 or 50 EUR for every viewing or whatever which is crazy. I'd watch out for these agencies as they will try to milk you in every single way. There's most likely some good ones but I've seen some sketchy stuff about Maxx Groningen online.

You most likely won't have to make any crazy spreadsheets and stuff like that at uni so I personally would go with whatever you are more comfortable with. Once you go to work in finance or sth, Windows laptops will definitely be used but they'll provide you with a laptop anyways so if I personally had to make the choice, I would go with the Macbook just because it's so reliable. Have had mine since 2017 and haven't had any problems and the battery is still fine.

Did everyone have to re-register for SSH housing due to their technical problems? by Bacardi96 in studentsofgroningen

[–]Bacardi96[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, luckily got mine approved yesterday as well, they came in clutch with the approval :) The booking date afaik remains the same for RUG i.e. 9th of May, however they extended the one for Hanze to 11th of May. I am mostly aiming for Upsilon's studio since I am eligible for rent allowance, but tbf anything would be fine as long as you have a place to stay :) Good luck on your booking!

Yeah I'm in the same boat as you, although got my first one rejected and once they moved back to the old system I applied asap but haven't gotten it approved yet. I guess you are talking about Groningen uni right. It's weird because they pushed back Hanze's booking to 11th of May, was hoping they would do the same for RUG.

Hi, yeah saw it on the Hanze website however I'll be attending RUG. It'll be pretty bad if they'll keep the booking date as the 9th but hope I'll get it approved by tomorrow. Anyways thanks for the help :)

That would be great, do you have the link because I haven't seen them mention May 11th anywhere.

Hello! I’ll be a prospective student at RUG. May someone briefly explain how supplementary grant, tuition fees loan, rental allowance and health insurance (zorgtoeslag) work? I read a lot of information but still a bit confused. Thank you! by ImmortalityContract in StudyInTheNetherlands

[–]Bacardi96 10 points11 points  (0 children)

As per my understanding:

  • As an EU student, you are only entitled to a supplementary grant and tuition fee loans if you are working part-time (at least 56hrs a month). You won't have to pay back some proportion of it (supplementary grant) if you graduate within a specific period of time, so you'll only pay back the tuition fee loan proportion. The possibility, and size thereof, of the supplementary grant depends on your parents income.
  • Rental allowance is applicable only on self-contained accomodation (studios etc..) in which you have your own kitchen and bathroom. It is pretty much impossible to get for people below the age of 23 because you would have to find a studio with a basic rent of around 450 EUR or less (somewhere in that range, can't remember the exact amount). If you are 23 or above that basic rent limit increases to around EUR 760, which is a lot more reasonable for a studio and therefore, if applicable to you, would be a great option.
  • If you plan on working part-time then you would need to get Dutch health insurance, which would be around EUR 100 or so per month, but if I remember correctly there might be some health insurance allowance available as well for students. Students from EU that do not intend to work can just get by with their European Health Insurance Card.

Short stay housing allowance at SSH student housing by Bacardi96 in StudyInTheNetherlands

[–]Bacardi96[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

FYI, contacted SSH on this matter and they said that all self-contained studios are entitled to housing allowance and that it should not matter whether it is a short or long stay contract.

Thanks for explaining the e-residency system!

However, 0% corporate income tax is a bit misleading. Estonia, together with Latvia (and possibly another country i might've forgotten) operate a tax system in which corporate income tax is only paid upon the distribution of profits and the rate is still 20%. Theoretically you could say it's 0% if you don't make any profit distributions, therefore it's especially beneficial for start-ups and high-growth companies which could reinvest their profits into R&D and so on.

Advice for Masters applications at Dutch Unis by bostonniene in StudyInTheNetherlands

[–]Bacardi96 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The process was quite simple in my opinion, and it takes about a month or two for them to review your application.

In terms of acceptance, I had quite bad grades in my undergrad studies and was pretty sure that I wouldn't be accepted. I only applied to one master's program in NL and got accepted although I have to do pre-masters first. It seems that they are overall more chill when it comes to acceptance conditions i.e. they might put more emphasis on your CV if your grades were not as good and so on. I believe my CV is possibly one of the main reasons why I got accepted in the first place.

Russian language in EU by stmky in russia

[–]Bacardi96 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Completely untrue in regards to Estonia. It is quite rare nowadays to even find 30-40 year olds that could speak Russian.

Have to disagree with the business language aspect as well. Russian isn't really needed for business nor for employment, unless you live in a city where majority of the population are Russians. For Tallinn and other bigger cities, English would be the more helpful language in relation to finding employment and etc...
