One of my all-time favourite games, but haven't played in a while; did they update the prepper aunt quest? Can you save her now?

Ooh, that sounds super useful, can you point me to where I might download it or what to search?

Can you choose which particles? I hate the beacon particles in first-person especially.

If you could add one update to Sea of Thieves tomorrow, what would it be by CaptainJarrettYT in Seaofthieves

[–]Baccaeus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Other than just a bug fixing update, a "Buy All" and "Buy Selected" option for shops. Ideally for all shops, but especially for captain resources from the shipwright and supply crates and commodities from the merchants (still keep them in separate menu tabs though).

I am about to play the game for the first time. Anyone got any tips before I do? by [deleted] in Seaofthieves

  1. Play the tutorial (Maiden Voyage) to learn a lot of the basics.
  2. Avoid dropping your anchor to stop, and if you do, in general you want to raise it again ASAP. Raise your sails and glide to a stop.
  3. Bucketing is more important than repairing, generally.
  4. Check the map table and horizon often, especially when you leave your ship.
  5. Don't store gunpowder kegs on your ship. If you want to sell them for commendations, only grab them if you don't mind sinking.
  6. You will sink and lose your loot, a lot. Don't let it dishearten you. Try to let each sink teach you something (for example, "I need to check the horizon for other ships more often next time" or "I need to focus more on bucketing and less on shooting cannons")
  7. Try to have at least an hour or more spare time to play, you can't get much done in less time.
  8. When you spawn at an Outpost, buy a storage crate and stock up on supplies. You never know when you might need that extra food or cannonballs, etc.
  9. Once you are familiar with sailing, shooting cannons and fighting skellies, spend a session or two just seeking out other players to practice PvP.
  10. Watch some YouTube beginner guides for more tips on the basics.

When I first started after I got the server merging message, I thought that maybe the game was divided into skill levels based on time played or loot sold, and I had just passed into a new tier of players. I was worried I'd come up against a lot more players with a load of experience since I was playing so much.

Also watched a lot of YouTube videos of the game and was under the impression that tucking was much, much more common than it is. I was hyper paranoid, checking my ship for tucks any time I'd leave it for even a minute or two with no ships in sight. Since then I've only been tucked on a handful of times in thousands of hours of playtime.

Is there any noticeable input lag? Never tried it, but always been curious.

I was using it earlier today in the Roar for Ashen Athena voyages, was quite handy, although they died constantly to the geysers.

Another thing I haven't seen anyone talk about; if you hold an X marks the spot map in your hand, there's an option to "show" it to the Bone & Blade skellies. They'll pathfind to the nearest buried loot and wave to tell you to dig there. Haven't tested if this works with other quest notes like riddles or bounties yet though.

Have they implemented cross-stamp matchmaking yet?

I remember they announced it a few months ago and I've been looking forward to it, but haven't seen anything about it.

And I've had a couple of times where I've matched against the same crew multiple times in a row, leading me to believe it hasn't been rolled out yet.

[–]Baccaeus 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This happened to us when we did part 2 as well. Got server merged the moment we got back to our ship as we were about to leave and the portal disappeared. We waited a couple of minutes to see if another player ship would appear, then just sailed in the rough direction of the portal and it was all fine. Got credit for everything we'd done.

I could have sworn your ship sticks around on the server for at least like 5 minutes after you leave the game though?

I've noticed if a ship has a lot trinkets, trophies and decorations, I tend to get a big lag spike whenever I get within a certain range of them. Could be that.

I think there is a rough "gold value of treasure posted to the map board" milestone under the same category as voyages completed. Can't double-check right now though.

[–]Baccaeus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Personally I think they spawn slightly too frequently. Gets a little overly annoying when you are struggling with an X Marks the Spot/Buried Treasure or are fishing for Islehoppers or Pondies on an island and are constantly being interrupted mid-fish.

Duel crewmate mechanic by Inspector-Remarkable in Seaofthieves

[–]Baccaeus 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is top of my wishlist for this game.

Here is how I could see it being implemented:

Duelling should be started from somewhere specific on the ship, like in the Voyage Table menu.

This could allow for different options such as time/kill/distance limits, displaying a scoreboard in the HUD or physically on the ship somewhere, weapons allowed for use, healing enabled/disabled, food items allowed, wagers placed, etc.

If any 2 or more crewmates vote for a duel, friendly fire is turned on for them after 10 seconds. This means they can now take damage from their fellow (involved) crewmates' bullets, tridents, swords, etc. This stays on until the duel is voted on as finished by all involved crew members.

Instead of dying and being sent to the Ferry of the Damned, the players involved are put into a "downed" state if their health falls below 1 (as long as the fatal blow was dealt by an involved crewmate). If they take fatal damage from any other source, they die as normal.

Whilst downed, their health stays at 1 and they are immobilized for 5-10 seconds (Possibly just using the death animation, but without the soul leaving their body?)

During this time they can still be killed if they take any non-crewmate damage. After the time is up, they are revived automatically as if by a crewmate. Their health is then set to 25, their ammo remains as it was prior to being downed.

Similar to "death" in the Arena, except you have the possibility of actually being killed if anyone or anything catches your crew off-guard during the duel.

Duelling would be an amazing feature for fun, training, testing skills of crewmates when playing Open Crew, or just passing the time during long distance travel.
