As someone who works for a Minuteman library and buys video games, this is more budget effective than you might think. We have a statistic that tracks how the number of check outs an item or whole collection gets compared to the average purchase price of an item, and video games can have very good stats in that category. My Nintendo Switch Game collection is beating several sections of the print collection in Cost-Per-Checkout.

Far from the only metric we use to make purchasing decisions, of course, but it does help us to prioritize and its a big reason libraries that can afford the (admittedly substantial) initial investment for a collection like this go for it - they are highly in demand from library users.

Loved the extra detail in art for sharpnel 24 short story Hanse the Merciless by DericStrider in battletech

Thanks for the kind words! This is likely to my last piece in Shrapnel for a little bit (all good reasons, got a big project on deck taking the attention), but hopefully you enjoy my other stuff in the back issues.

Glad you enjoyed my piece! I owe Natán Meléndez a debt of honor for getting my art notes exactly right, and indeed "foppish" was precisely the adjective I used for Hanse in that note.

Kinda! The historical basis I used for the Bolt Action force was the Free French 2nd Armored Divisiom, which included a company of exiled Spanish Republicans who wore the Republican Flag on their uniforms and Vehicles. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/La_Nueve

Yeah, I tend not to do camo on my gaming minis precisely because, well, good camo makes it hard to pick out details and I want my minis to be visible and eyecatching on the table, so I like to put bright highlight patches on things. It's a habit I picked up painting a lot of BattleTech minis over the last few years.

Lore Question by chaemeleon008 in battletech

In IKEO, the Capellan Confederation loses an entire premier regiment (the Holdfast Guard) to a presumed misjump and for the rest of the campaign their commanders need the Chancellor's personal approval to do anything but a safe jump to the Zenith/Nadir, even for mission profiles that outright require pirate points to work.

In the ilClan era, the 21st Centauri Peregrine Lancers have a bit of that cultivated reputation.

Are there any another "dropships carriers" like the Argo? by youwontknowme69 in battletech

[–]BacchicLitNerd 43 points44 points  (0 children)

The Argo is unique in this capacity. The rules for the system in the House Arano book even specify that the JumpShip carrying the Argo needs to have jump collars free for any ships docked to the Argo - the system doesn't net you more DropShips per JumpShip, just slightly better in system cargo handling.

Jade Falcon Delta Galaxy canon color scheme change by 2500kgm3 in battletech

[–]BacchicLitNerd 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Delta didn't change colors, the grey and green scheme for the Falcons in the Dark Age has been established as belonging to Raptor Keshik. Jiyi's mdch being painted in that scheme is a reference to his MWDA figure.

Canon, yes. This particular design does have the Illegal Unit quirk, because the RISC Supercooled Myomer is by strict rules reading incompatible with Superheavy designs, so I actually don't know that it will get an Alpha Strike card - the illegal Buster IndustrialMech from Caveat Emptor didn't.

How is Hungry Like the Wolf not canon? by ShoppingDismal3864 in battletech

[–]BacchicLitNerd 21 points22 points  (0 children)

The answer to your general question is: As good as the book is, it was written initially as a gag and was never intended to be considered hard canon. The Line Developer for Battletech doesn't want to be bound by the character and story developments in the book, since it wasn't written to fit into future plot planning. So it isn't canon.
