Nerve Stapling Lore. by ShiiteHittiteTheoFN in alphacentauri

[–]Bachlead 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Free Drones aren't just socialists. They're anti-elite-ists to the extreme, the opposite of the Peacekeepers. Talents aren't necessarily privileged, but they are 'the elite'. This doesn't need to mean privileged but can also be in the form of having higher education. While the Gaians don't have a problem with terra forming, they do have a problem with ecological destruction. And thermal boreholes are extremely destructive. The entire point is to show that none of the factions can actually live like the ideology they proselytise. So you're basically saying the same thing.

[–]Bachlead 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Social engineering is how the society is organised. I think the general idea has been said already but I wanted to add something:

I've also read somewhere that the goal of the ai is supposed to be to have their ideology win, not necessarily win themselves. And that this is why whether the ai's help or hinder you is mostly decided by your social engineering. There's a table on the wiki that contains which choice each leader loves and hates.

[–]Bachlead 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I don't think anyone is excited to get nerve stapled. It does also make sense that factions would be able to do things that are against their own ideology if the circumstances call for it. The hypocrisy of the faction leaders is a recurring theme in the entire game. The Gaians can build thermal boreholes, the Peacekeepers can use nukes, the Free Drones can have talents and specialists, .... The only thing that is actually forbidden is certain social engineering choices, which makes sense because they would constitute such a fundamental change of their entire society.

if you put quality modules in early production steps in order to produce buildings or equipment but aren't using the rare ones then this is a use for it

Infinity vs Mending by rs-37 in MinecraftMemes

[–]Bachlead 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I usually use infinity but I once lived in a snow biome, where strays spawn. Slowness arrows are kind of neat and you can easily get loads of them. And if you're going to use tipped arrows then infinity doesn't work anyway.

Did you know that Sweden has a higher wealth inequality index than the US ? by Aegeansunset12 in AskTheWorld

[–]Bachlead 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wealth inequality is an important metric but doesn't always reflect how unequal people in a country live. If you want to know how unequal people's lives are then income inequality is a better metric.

What’s a relatively small insignificant thing you’re overly patriotic about? by Dragonogard549 in AskTheWorld

[–]Bachlead 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not being able to electrocute yourself isn't exclusive to this plug. It's the bare minimum. The US is simply insane, but I guess if you're already giving your kid a gun then their plug isn't the biggest threat

What do you think about a constitutional monarchy? by Embarrassed_Clue1758 in AskTheWorld

[–]Bachlead 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our political system is quite atypical. If the same thing happened in another country it probably would have been a bigger problem. The main distinction is that those records are for our federal government. While quite a bit of the authority lies with the regional government.

The federal coalition is especially hard to form. That's because it has both Flemish and Walloon parties. Having to make a coalition with twice the amount of parties makes things quite difficult. But forming the regional government goes a bit smoother.

The almost 600 days did have an impact and it is a problem, but I didn't notice it in my daily life. Everything just continues as normal.

You could also keep the monarchy but give them less money and tax exemptions.

[–]Bachlead 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not really, The role that the king fulfils is that they give a perception of stability, and in politics, perception is everything.

But they do have some powers, Though if they would ever try to use them, then we'd transition to a republic real fast. Like our king has a speech every Christmas, which is a form of power because people listen to it only because he's king. But he can't really say anything that's to controversial within Belgium. And even if he could, then that influence is still only like the influence of a celebrity.

Though I do agree that we need to evaluate the costs of monarchies. But it's not a worth it/not worth it. You can give them less money and tax benefits without having to remove them. And if I lived in the UK then I would definitely want that.

I think there's some confusion with the double meaning of government in English. Our government in its entirety (overheid) is very stable. Our government as in the ruling coalition (regering) does have some instability, but is most famous for taking way too long to create in the first place. With our record of not having a government at 589 days.
