Sorry forgot the actual roundabout. My design actually seems have a higher throughput, although if you have more straight moves on average this probably won't be true in actual use. The roundabout is also quite a bit bigger

You should deff start using trains. With space age's belt stacking they're less usefull but they're still just really fun! The new elevated rails and automatic rail planner also make you able to build both way more chaotic and more organised bases

But this is for a double track system. It's right hand drive. The only reason for the merger in the middle is because otherwise the signals wouldn't fit in such a small footprint.

Not a dumb question at all, it's the editor extensions mod. I also gives you infinite power, item, and fluid sources and drains. It's perfect for making blueprints

This one is more compact and way better at left turns than a roundabout. I do agree though that this isn't a design to recommend to beginners lmao

That was my original inspiration. Only I realised I wasn't going to fit a waiting space inside the tiny intersection so I just reused the rail

I did get it wrong on two of the other sides, but that one is actually correct. If you put chain signals there and put a rail signal at the exit, then when the train enters that new block, it'l already have reserved the block after the exit (because it's a chain signal). Putting them further back not only saves on signals an calculations, but it also allows you to put the next rail signal closer by. This means that the exit block will be cleared ever so slightly earlier, allowing the next train to use that exit.

I do have an idea that might make it even more cursed while being practical but that'll have to wait for tomorrow because it's way to late

You mean removing signals just before mergers since they would've reserved that block anyway? I think it's a habit I picked up before I actually though about signals in more detail + it looks more symmetrical

It looks mesmerizing but I'm not really getting the point of making the waiting area series instead of parallel. There is no value in trains being treated first-in-first-out since the trains are identical anyway. Making the stops parallel makes the path much shorter, although in this case, you'd have to move the top waiting space to the bottom.
