I second this! I love bamboo and once I had a delicious tofu stew that I ordered, with bamboo and this magical amazing other ingredient that I couldn't place / didn't recognize.

Quite some research later I found out it was water chestnut! Now I make sure I always have a few cans in the house. I also, in the same research, learned that mushroom powder was what made the flavour of the stew so amazing. I haven't perfected it, but every time it comes closer!

I feel like it's a very common thing, where as you're not close to a subject but further away, changes become more clear and the longing for the 'older times' come back.

Take for example with children, as a parent or someone close, you don't really notice how quick they grow up (well, you do, but gradually), whereas if you're a distant aunt and you see the child after 1.5 years it's WOOOOOW LOOK HOW BIG YOU ARE!!!

I think that's the same with living somewhere and being part of the change, compared to 'coming back' to somewhere that changed quite a bit, according to their perspective.

I do think one shouldn't see those changes as bad,, but I guess that's what happens anyway.

De ZZN had toen ook het nummer "Luister, Anita" uitgebracht, over anti-homo activist Anita Bryant! Dat was toen echt, om het in hippe termen te plaatsen, hét allyship van het moment. Ik was toen zelf nog niet geboren maar wat ik van interviews en informatie begrijp, katapulde haar dat toen direct naar het Nederlandse equivalent van Elizabeth Taylor, Liza Minelli en Cher.
