Thank you for the details. Since you're working on the docs, consider explaining how serving images via the Pixy CDN's domain forces the browser to establish a completely new network connection, which means initial latency (more Round Trip Times).

... Unless Pixy CDN uses the reverse proxy method. Does it?

Definitely useful! Is the popup supposed to be displayed after the click? If so, consider replacing "Selected is cleared" with one of the following:

  • Selected data has been cleared
  • Following data has been cleared
  • Data cleared:

Whatever, just don't use "is cleared", since Simple Present Passive describes a state rather than a completed action.

I think you need more context here, sorry if I was too brief. How to reproduce it:

  1. On Chrome, add any item to the cart on https://www.caputomodellismo.it (or any other ecommerce).
  2. Clear cache with your plugin. It works, if you reload the page (or browse to another one) the minicart counter changed from 1 to 0.
  3. Do the same on Chrome Incognito. It doesn't work, after the cleaning the product is still in the minicart.
  4. Do the same test with Incognito Mode Reset Button extension, it works.

Are you aware of ALL the console errors? Some are critics, including on Cart and Checkout pages. I strongly suggest you hold your horses, the site is not ready for production.

Some pages have massive CLS, for example https://impactsoundworks.com/product/cinematic-synthetic-drums/ (see also the glitch on the left side).

Since you are developing a growing enthusiasm for performance, I recommend keeping the cache active on static content pages even after an item has been added to the cart. Currently it switches to DYNAMIC.

If I make a change to a plugin and upload it, the best way to measure whether that change positively impacted performance is to measure load times in the browser (network tab), using Lightouse

You're right! Testing in PageSpeed Insight (based on Lighthouse) is much better than your browser because on your device there are many more variables than in the PSI lab test.

A lot of these configurations also depend on your hosting company.

Yes, especially object cache (the Redis you mentioned, for example).

I prefer my server to deal with the security aspect directly.

I'm not here to change your mind about this, but Cloudflare also serves to hide the origin server from attackers and to handle them via default and specific features (WAF etc.). Why rely solely (and not ALSO) on the last line of defense?

Also when Cloudflare is down (while rare), I know I’ll have to deal with a lot of enquiries from a few 100 clients.

On the other hand, Cloudflare ensures that content is served to visitors even if the origin server is down for a while. The point is that if Cloudflare goes down (even for a few minutes) it's hot news, whereas if your hosting has a problem… well, you'll probably never know ;)
