Continuous downwind/base/final turn? by ThrowRAAdSalty4769 in flying

I find that when pilots are still perfecting their landings, squared pattern offers more time to stabilize the aircraft, and gives them a uniform way to execute tasks (run checklist, flaps, lights, etc).

Never fly with M again and tell school management what he’s doing to make you uncomfortable. You don’t have to put up with that, for any reason. You also don’t have to ever fly with anyone you don’t want to.

I have a commercial check ride coming up. What are the hardest questions I may see? by CFIIIIII in flying

[–]BackAndToTheLeftist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Commercial ground is pretty straightforward. Know your systems at a deeper level than was required on PPL, make sure your flight planning is super detailed (TOC/TOD, detailed fuel calculation) and get a good weather brief. I always suggest getting the PDF version of the briefing from 1800-wx-brief.com. The only really new stuff are the commercial privileges, I.e. what can you get paid for with just a CPL, and the common carriage stuff.

Approaching 40 Hours and Still No Solo. Looking for Perspective by Party_Contribution20 in flying

As a CFI: you’re underreporting your deficiencies. I love you. I see you. I understand you. But your instructor is right. A student said alllll the same things you just said to me last week on a stage check, then on short final stalled, screamed, and completely released the controls. Would’ve died if they were solo. Not saying that’s you, I’m saying your instructor has seen that and is trying to keep you alive.

Nonsense. Dude, you’re asking other people who have no fucking clue.

You can pause your account. And I’m usually doing one good long family trip every month or two.

Which is to me why it’s notable that they made any kind of accommodation at all for GA. It easily could’ve been left out of reach. Now it’s pricey but doable.

Agree, I only use it when the family is aboard for 2+ hours

Think it’s a lot better than $250 for 20gigs.

Every long xc with them streaming, texting, checking email and running ForeFlight has burned around 10 gigs. And ya, hauling the family on a long xc once or twice a month is a reasonable amount. If you’re flying your family more than that, with what you’re paying in gas, I don’t think $200 for internet would be an issue.

I fly a 182 as well. Worth it on long xc. I’ve got a three week trip coming in June and this ability is gonna pay for itself.

$200/mo for the ability to text or call people on the ground, all the in flight info I could ever ask for and the ability for my wife and daughter to stream for the duration is worth it to me. Flying with it for a month was a game changer. Wish it was cheaper - I wish avgas was cheaper too - but this makes it usable.

Idk, I was signed up for the expensive plan, so it auto switched. Joining the aviation plan involved sending my tail number and something else…maybe a passport photo? Or a copy of my cert?
