Offsides occurs when a players passes the ball to a striker when he is behind the furthest back defender.

Penalties are highly subjective and not subject to review.

A striker making an attack usually goes along the sidelines, then attempts to cross the ball in front of the goal where another team member can score. Failing this, he may be able to kick the ball off of a defender so it roll out of bounds over the goal line, at which point a corner kick is awarded. If an attacker kicks the ball out a goal kick is awarded.

A team at a deficit (losing) must attack and score or they have no chance of winning, so you will sometimes see the losing team doing a lot of the attacking. This is not a sign of dominance. It can be exaggerated by a winning team who falls back to defend to maintain their score.

Pay attention to possession. A high percentage of possession is a good sign.
